The VW Golf Mk7 key fob uses a CR2025 battery. These two numbers indicate the width and depth, measured in millimeters, respectively. The life expectancy is estimated to be 2 to 4 years. If and when You do need to replace the battery it takes but a few minutes. The battery is located behind the back panel. Slide out the key then pry the fob open with a flat tool such as a butter knife or a flat-head screwdriver. You can then slide the back off and swap out the dead battery with a new one. Make sure the positive side, which has the brand and size imprinted, is facing up. Re-insert the back and Your fob should work again.

I have a mk7.5 and mine has a CR2025.. Extract your key using the button, you’ll find a gap where the key sits when closed, praise the cover open (it’s quite easy). Make sure you insert the new battery immediately after removing the old one as this will sometimes require recording otherwise.. If left out to long.
