The weight limit for Your stock roof rack on Your Jeep Grand Cherokee is surprisingly small: Only around 150 pounds. Additionally, You need to keep in mind that if You exceed the weight by 20-30 pounds while doing highway driving, You'll probably be fine, but if You take Your Jeep off-road, it could very much cause an issue. You can consider loading some of Your cargo into Your Cherokee itself: it's got a total passenger and cargo load of a thousand pounds, which if everyone goes on a diet, should let You pack in a pretty large load of tents and backpacks for a great adventure into lands untamed.

I definitely just carried 8 sheets of 1/2 in drywall on top of (2)16 foot 2x10 joists and I didn't have a problem at all. I just had to watch how hard I hit the brakes because they're so close together and I didn'twant everything to top forward lol
