The lifespan of a Volkswagen Tiguan will depend on many different factors but a conservative average for this vehicle will be about 150,000 miles. You can definitely get to over 200,000 but You're going to have to stay on top of maintenance and check-ups. A good way to ensure that Your engine stays running well for years to come is to use a full synthetic oil and keep up with Your regular oil changes. Every 5,000 to 7,500 miles should be fine when using a synthetic oil. Keep topping up Your other fluids routinely and try to keep Your vehicle covered whenever possible. Rain and snow could lead to rusting damage over time. -

My 2012 Tiguan S 4Motion has 244,000 miles on it. Over all it has been the best car I have ever owned. Power train is still all original. Just replaced the water pump. Other than that, and routine maintenance, the cooling system, hoses, radiator and all are still original. Other than replacing the battery, the electrical is all original. Interior has no defects. Controls all work. Chassis is still solid. Struts / shocks at 160,000. Front control arms / bushings / wheel bearings / CV joints at 200,000. Fuel pump problems when new. Replaced every 10k miles under warranty and VW nailed the problem on the 4th pump. Same pump since that time. At 100k miles vacuum pump failed with takes out the brakes. Brake wise... Rear brakes wear out first... They went 80k miles. Front brakes went 160k miles. Tires last 50k per set all around. Transmission still shifting well, starting to get a little noisy. Still original turbo and exhaust system. Carbon cleaning every 60 to 80k miles. Great car. The new gen Tiguan does not have the fold flat front passenger seat that allows you to put 8 foot long items inside and close the hatch... Big mistake vw. Take care of the Tiguan and it will go at least 240,000 miles. Mine seems like its got plenty left in it at 244k.

I have a 2011 Tiguan. It has 112,000 miles right now. Here are the problems. These all began around 100K. - Engine developed carbon deposits that caused it to run very rough. The carbon has to be chiseled off by hand. $3K. - A valve failed, causing a screaming noise to come from the engine. $300. - Fuel injector broke. $700. - Went to give it regular 100K maintenance, $700. Was warned that belts associated with the tires were worn and might fall apart, another $700. - Water pump broke. $900. TOTAL (so far in the last 12 months) at 112K: $6300 In addition, the passenger seat airbag light is always on. VW dealership could not easily diagnose a reason, therefore they could not provide a decent estimate to fix. Therefore, it remains always on.
