The Toyota Prius check hybrid system light comes on it indicates that there is a problem with the hybrid system. You should not drive the car more than 40 mph, and don't use AC. If there is a place around You that can scan the vehicle, do that first. Write down whatever codes the scan shows. If there isn't a place around You, try disconnecting the 12v battery for about 2 minutes. That will reset all the codes, though. A common problem is that the hybrid battery has some faulty cells and the average dealer cost to replace it $3K - $5K. Diagnosis is $150.

To reset the check hybrid system, try turning the car off 3 or 4 times, and then driving around for a bit.

2012 Prius. Go under hood and open fuse box. Disconnect big white wire, making sure trunk is unlocked. Open trunk and pull orange hybrid plug from hybrid battery. Wait at least 10 minutes and then redo what was undone. If there are no hard errors your system should be reset. If it does not, further diagnosis is needed.

2014 Prius. Disconnect 12v Battery (in trunk, under floor rhs) for 15 minutes. That did the trick for me.

Disconnecting the aux / start battery works AFTER cleaning MAF, O2 sensors and the throttle body as seen in simple YouTube videos. My Code Reader can erase ERRORS. “Check Hybrid System” is not an error , therefore the 12v disco works : just reset your clock! Then plug in your code reader to scan for other problems before calling it done. Our 2nd Prius , this one a 2010 Tour we’ll try to keep alive forever, nice ride!
