How do I reset the 2010 ford fusion power steering assist fault?

I have a 2010 fusion and every once in awhile my powersteering wont work. The “powersteering assist fualt” will pop up. I turn off the car and turn it back and it’ll start working again. Any one have the same issue. Does anyone know if it’s the assist itself or if it’s an electronic errror with the alternator or battery

I took my 2010 fusion to ford dealership after having flat on left front it kick power steering unit off an Ihad to pay 1975 to get it fixed . I hope a recall comes through Iwant to be reimbursed . I think it shitty of ford to leave it on hard working people that many can't afford this repair ... This power steering design is really peice of s**t . I will not be buying another ford .. #chevy is the s**t ....

The 2010 ford fusion is eligible for a recall on its power steering system and it is recommended that you contact your dealer for assistance.

I called dealer today and they said my 2010 is not under recall for this issue. Im having the same issue

2010 Ford Fusion with 76000 miles on it and we bought it new. Power Steering Assist Fault comes on and now won't reset. It has happened before in the last year but I would restart the car and it reset. I called the dealer but my particular vehicle is not under recall. Mine is not one of the 493,000 that were recalled! WTF?

My 2010 Ford fusion is doing the same thing. I took it to the dealership and they weren’t $2600 to fix it. II think it’s pretty crappy that 2011 and up had the same issue with power steering and it’s on recall but a 2010 is not if you hear of a class action lawsuit let me know because I will definitely join it this is ridiculous.

For anyone that is wondering if there’s a fix, this coming from someone that isn’t mechanical, it’s a really dumb design they have for their system. When a car with their power steering design gets a flat it triggers an alert that disables the power steering assist. It’s not even a true “error” it’s a safety code for a person to not drive the car with a flat. On the second flat since we got the car so far and first time we had to go to someone with a code reader to hard reset the code and even then it took a bit to reset

Buy Honda or Toyota Never have problems other then normal wear and tear parts

Kevan heitman, how did u get it to reset? I have a friend who just passed away and just last nite his poor mom, whose homeless now and all she has left is her car and it's power steering went stiff. Idk what year her car is but I tried helping her out since I'm pretty mechanically inclined and even I was baffled at what the issue is and I feel terrible that I couldn't fix it for last night. I feel even worse and just outright hopeless after reading this forum feed. My only glimmer of hope is ur way of restarting and getting it to reset.

I have been dealing with my 2010 Fusion power steering coming on and off. Now its stiff. I was quoted that it could cost me 1400 to replace and I don't have that kind of money laying around. Barry is not correct if you go on ford.com or nhtsa.gov 2010 fusion is not listed. All it says they advise you to have it routinely checked. I have a tix out with nhtsa and no success. I have only had my car for 3 yrs and have already had issues.

June 2022 2010 Ford Fusion - Same thing happened to me. Flat Tire then power steering went out. Narrowly avoided oncoming traffic. Ford said the rack and pinion had to be replaced to fix it. They said it would take $2,800.00 to repair. Negotiated down to 2K. Terrible design! Dangerous and should not be on the allowed on the road. As you can see from the posts. They aren't fixing the issue just replacing with the same poorly designed parts and putting these back out on the road. This is a continuing problem and someone loose their life eventually.

Just experienced the snowfall the other day my Ford Fusion the power assist went out along with the alarm going off wasn't driving it was just parked and it does not come back on now I just need to find out why this could have been dangerous if I had been driving did the weather have something to do with this temperatures got down in the teens this happened in the daytime where's the temperature coming up and the alarm alerted me as if somebody was tampering with the car but when I check the cameras nobody was there just the alarm going off

You do need to check the drivetrain like cv axle boing joint bushing. Then if something is bad fix it. And reprogram the power steering. MyEnglish is bad. I can fix for 750$

Ford is a c**p company. I have no answers, only more warnings for people to stay away from them. This car is a nightmare and the dealership does nothing but charge exorbitant prices to repair design flaws. The computer is set to shut off the electric drive after 9 years and they want to replace the battery for more than the car is worth. I learned how to reset the electric drive for $15 in five minutes from a non-ford mechanic. Now the steering is going out randomly. I'm guessing the solution is to go to a real mechanic and not deal with Ford. They're not interested in repairs, they want you to throw it away and get a new Ford. I'll never buy Ford again.

Tried everything to reset the power steering unit but nothing works. Called auto zone and the part is over 700.00 dollars. Where the hell is the recall on this? They have it on the 2012 but not the 2010. Went out when my boyfriend was driving with no prior warning that anything was wrong.

I have a 2011 ford fusion and my powering steering assist fault came on I would turn car off then restart and it would be ok just like videos tell you but one day it just didn’t go off, they say to do a hard reset by disconnecting battery for 4 hours did that nothing, well took it to shop lucky enough it was a recall issue but turned out it was steering gear

MAKE sure your tire pressure is up to par, as well as ALL 4 tire pressure sensors. OR the system will turn off until those problems are corrected,

My 2010 Ford Fusion was doing this periodically as well. Now today I went out to start it and the whole steering wheel is locked up it says that power steering assist! I'm so screwed, I DONT HAVE FUNDS TO FIX IT!

I'm having the same problems with my 2010 Ford. The tire on the front passenger side went flat then the power steering went out it is going to cost more then it is worth. I'm a single parental can't afford a new car or to have this fixed. Was there a recal on this? Is there anything I can do about this
