EacH2017 Kia Sportage model comes with one of two different engines. Whether You have the LX, EX, SX, or the AWD variants of each, You'll either have a 2.0L 4Cylinder or 2.4L 4Cylinder engine. The 2.0L Turbo requires the use of 5.1 quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic oil, though over short periods, it's safe to substitute SAE 5W-40 conventional. The 2.4L engine also useS5.1 quarts, but it requires the use of SAE 5W-20. SAE 5W-30 can be substituted here, but again, it's not recommended. The reason behind the recommendations against is because using thicker oil (higher numbers) can introduce friction into Your engine, which causes it to work harder. This can and will eventually lead to Your engine failing at a lower mileage than You had hoped.

If you don’t have your car book, the top of the oil cap or engine label should say exactly what kind of oil and how much. 🤓

The 2017 Kia Sportage uses full synthetic oil in both 4 cylinder engines. The 2.0L 4-cylinder suggests SAE 5W-30 or 5W-40 and the 2.4L prefers SAE 5W-20. The oil capacity for both of the SUV's engines is 5.1 quarts.
