If You don't replace it, there will be issues with the engine. Having high quality oil is important for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into issues with this fluid at some point. Old or bad oil can cause the engine to stop working. A common problem is an awful burning odor. This needs to be viewed closely as soon as possible or the car might explode. You could experience bad gas mileage. Knocking noise may show up from the engine.

For the 2017 Jeep Compass, the oil type for 2.0L 4-cylinder engine is full synthetic SAE 5W-20 and for the 2.4L 4-cylinder SAE 0w-20 is preferred. The oil capacity for the 2.0L engine is 4.5 quarts and 5.5 quarts for 2.4L.

The owner’s manual for said vehicle clearly states to use 4.5 quarts of 5w-20 in both the 2.0 and the 2.4L engines.

It says what type of oil to use on top of the filler cap! Mine say 0w-20
