The 2008 Mazda3 comes in a few different models. It offers 2.0 L inline-4 and 2.3 L inline-4 engine versions, which both have a maximum capacity of 4.5 quarts. The 2.3 L inline-4 turbo, however, has a greater capacity of 6 quarts. For all models, Mazda highly recommends using A5w-30 sae Viscosity motor oil, with the API certification seal. It is preferred over semi-synthetic oil, as it contributes greatly to the overall performance, maintenance and efficiency of the vehicle. Mazda recommends changing the motor oil every 4000 to 5000 miles. Swapping out the cabin air filter too when doing so can prevent any other side effects and keep the car at optimal performance.

The 2008 Mazda 3 has three engine options available: the 2.0L inline-4, the 2.3L inline-4 (engine code [3] 4), and the 2.3L inline-4 Turbo (engine code MZR G Turbo). The 2.0L inline-4 and the 2.3L inline-4 (code [3] 4) both take 4.5 quarts of 5W20, and the 2.3L inline-4 Turbo needs 6 quarts of 5W30. The oil weights are based on synthetic formulated oil.

For the record, the oil cap says 5w-20, not 5w-30...at least it does on mine.
