The 2003 Ford F-150'S4.2 liter 6-cylinder engine and the 4.6 l V6 are both equipped with 6 US quarts of 5W-20 with a filter. The F-150'S5.4 liter V8 engines maintain the same capacity and lubricant type. Oil and filter changes should be scheduled every 7,500-10,000 miles or 12 months if using fully synthetic lubricants, or every 3,000-5,000 miles or 6 months, if filling with conventional oil. The advantages of using synthetic vs conventional products include better lubrication among moving parts, a longer interval between service appointments and enhanced effectiveness under adverse weather conditions. A motor oil with a thinner viscosity moves more easily in colder temperatures, coating engine components efficiently and providing better protection against friction and corrosion.

I would recommend using 5w30 instead of 5w20 although both will work

All of the engine options the 4.2L V6, both versions of the 4.6L V8 (engine codes [6] 6 and [W] W), and all four versions of the 5.4L V8 (engine codes [3] 3, [L] L, [M] M, and [Z] Z) for the 2003 Ford F-150 need 6 quarts of 5W20 synthetic oil.
