Common problems found on the 2017 Kia Optima include a loss of power while accelerating, brake lights failing, along with some wheel bearing issues. Overall, these problems are similar to some other midsize cars on the market, leading to average repair bills as the Optima ages.
A loss of power, while accelerating, is the most widespread complaint from 2017 Optima owners, showing up at around 80,000 miles. Usually, the problem is simply caused by carbon buildup in the engine as it ages. Cleaning the carbon out of the engine costs around $350, depending on local labor rates.
Brake lights failing is another issue mentioned by some Optima owners at roughly 45,000 miles. The problem is usually caused by just a simple burnt out bulb which costs $5 to replace. There are some reports of issues with the wiring, though, which can be more expensive to fix if it’s been damaged, or has water in the connectors.
Wheel bearing issues are also found on some Optima models in the first 50,000 miles. As the vehicle ages the bearings simply wear out, and have to be replaced. Changing out the wheel bearings costs around $150 per bearing, and is an issue that can show up on any car.
There are two recalls on the 2017 Kia Optima, which is fewer than some other midsize sedans. The most serious recall covers a high pressure fuel pipe, which may leak. Kia will replace the pipe on affected models for free. The other recall covers the voltage protection device which may activate. Kia will install a new voltage protection switch for free as well.
How Long Will the 2017 Kia Optima Last?
A well-maintained 2017 Kia Optima can last around 200,000 miles, which is shorter than some of the longest-lasting sedans like the Toyota Camry. Regular annual maintenance costs are lower than the competition according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $269 per year.
As a used 2017 Optima reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the oil pan gasket for $200, trailing arm costing $250, along with the thermostat which costs $375.
No the only problems were the car being recalled 3 times and the gas mileage is not that good at all.
It is reliable for the most part. The only concern I have with the vehicle I currently drive is that if nobody is in my passenger seat and I sit my purse there my car will think someone's there and the seat belt alert sound will continue to go off, after awhile it turns off but this can get annoying. My brake light and my headlight have gone out but I realized there was only a shortage in them because one day they will work and then another they will be dimmed out. One time I had an issue with the heat not wanting to come on. These are really the only issues I have with the vehicle but this could be only an issue for my particular car because it was purchased used.
The camera is good, buy Honda and some other vehicles are better in that department. It scratches easily.
This car is very reliable, running smoothly and easy to operate. I have not had any problems to date.
It is a very reliable car and has no problems whatsoever with it.I recommend this car to anyone. It is a go to car I love it
