Alex Showalter
Oct 21, 2022

The 2015 Volkswagen Jetta lasts around 250,000 miles with some minor engine sensor and clutch issues. At $10,800 to $15,650, it’s a great value for an entry-level German car with a high-quality interior.

likeFilled The Good
Passenger room is better than average, the TDI model is very efficient and the build quality feels like a more expensive car.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Suspension is firmer than other compact cars, repair costs are higher than average and the base engine is weak.

Is the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta a Good Used Car?

  • Overall Rating 8/10 – 2015 is a good year for the VW Jetta, good reliability paired with a nice interior gives it a high overall rating compared to other compact cars. Owner reviews praise the fun turbo engine, passenger room, and technology.
  • Interior, Comfort & Cargo 8/10 – Interior materials are luxurious for a compact car, the seats are more supportive than average, there’s also more cargo space than competitors.
  • Reliability 7/10 – There are no widespread issues reported on the 2015 Jetta. Avoid models from 20092011 since they have engine problems. We recommend models from 20122018, which all offer better reliability.

  • Safety 7/10 – The 2015 Jetta gets an overall 5-star rating in government crash tests. Optional safety equipment includes a rearview camera, forward collision warning, as well as a blind spot monitoring system.
  • Gas Mileage 9/10 – Fuel economy is great at up to 36 MPG giving 522 miles of range from the 14.5 gallon gas tank. Gas costs are $53 cheaper than average at $171 per month.
  • Value 8/10 – The 2015 Jetta maintains excellent build quality while still being cheaper than other compact cars, making it a great value.

My car goes far on fuel yet has zippy acceleration and a fun feel.
My little red Jetta is a zippy, fun car to drive, while it's also comfortable and feels safe. I named her "Suzy Q" because I love her so....there is nothing to dislike so far, though I haven't had her in the winter yet.

Reliable daily driver for you.
I would say my VW Jetta is extremely reliable. I have never had any major issues with the car, and it is a good daily driver. If you are looking for a vehicle that is reliable and will not break down on you, I highly recommend the VW Jetta! You will not be sorry.

Good vehicle. A very good buy.
I haven't had any issues aside from having to have something done for recall problems for emissions. It didn't cost me and I got a free rental with drop off and pick up. It was all scheduled in advance and was very easy. They even works around my schedule.

That dollar for dollar the Jetta is a great value and I'll stick with VW for awhile
We love the turbo. It has a great sound system. It gets great gas mileage, is very easy to drive and is very comfortable

My favorite part of my Volkswagen Jetta is its color.
My Volkswagen Jetta in amazing. I love it so much. It gets me where I need to go every single time with absolutely no trouble. The gas efficiency of my vehicle could not be better. I highly recommend this make of Volkswagen to everyone!! I have never had any form of trouble with this model what so ever.

It is a great car that gets us to many desired places safely.
It is a used car (purchased in 2018 for a car assembled in 2015). The car was fine after purchase but there was no spare tire given by the dealer. There was also no guarantee on other parts such as battery. Few months after purchase, problems started to happen including blown headlight, damaged spark plug and dead battery.

2015 vim Jetta is a great catch.
My car is wonderful. I absolutely love it, I have had it almost two years and never had a problem with it. It is very comfortable, and has every feature possible. I could go on and on about how great it is. This is my very first VW and I will never own anything different.

Good car but with higher maintenance costs
It is a good car. The slapstick transmission made me originally think it had transmission issues. High cost for an oil change and other maintenance since it is an import.

Cheaply and poorly made vehicle, would never recommend.
Very unreliable car. Electrical fuse constantly needs to be replaced- meaning I can rarely charge my phone in my car and headlights always needs replacing as well. The rear view mirror, broke off in my hand and other pieces within the car made of plastic have just broken; just a very cheaply and poorly made vehicle.
accountCircle Amanda P
Save yourself. Pass by this one.
I really do not like this car. It seems to require a lot of maintenance and has low durability. The inside sits five comfortable and the trunk is an okay size. The features on the car are okay but for a 2015 I feel like they could be better. The only major plus is I get great gas mileage.

Jetta the reliable 2. Slow computer vehicle.
I can't take the oil change sign off. It's also very slow that's why they stop making that engine. It is a good computer car but not fancy. Very reliable and is a comfy drive. It lacks features though. Only have Bluetooth. Doesn't come with navigation. Does have a 6 CD disc changer.

Don't buy from Volkswagen. Their cars are not reliable.
This is the worst car I have ever owned. The diesel scandal and constant breakdowns have made me never trust VW again

Good gas mileage on long trips. I pay $90 an oil change.
The ac is messed up and blows hot air sometimes. The charger port does not work in the front and back.

Great. Could be better but overall gets the job done.
It is a great car but the acceleration is a bit weak. Could be quicker like the Tesla. Also gas is very bad with the mileage. I love this car but I want more for our environment.

Volkswagen issues--think twice before purchasing/leasing one.
I have had issues with this since I purchased it new in 2015. There was a recall, the eps light would turn on initially, applying the brakes at dangerous times as I was driving. I have constant electric issues. My lights always need replacing and the electrical fuses inside of the car constantly stop working. Everything inside the car is also made very cheaply, things just break off easily, ex. Middle console, my rear view mirror came off in my hand as I was adjusting it. I wish I had never purchased this vehicle, very big regret.

Great on gas when traveling on highways.
I like the mpg which is great on traveling. I like the style of the vehicle. Also the features it has.

What Do Critics Say About the VW Jetta?

  • Consumer Reports says the Jetta offers a well-made German car driving experience, with good owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds gives the Jetta a 3.5/5 praising the spacious interior, but doesn’t like the weak base engine.
  • Kelley Blue Book users rate the Jetta 4.4/5, enjoying the excellent attention to detail throughout the cabin, while owners don’t like the lack of all-wheel-drive.

What Common Problems Does the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta Have?

Common problems found on the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta include the engine stalling while driving, a worn out clutch, as well as the accessory control panel not working. Overall, these problems are average compared to other compact cars. Repair costs are higher than average, though, since parts are more expensive.

The engine stalling while driving is a complaint from owners at around 20,000 miles. A worn out crankshaft position sensor is usually the cause of the problem. Changing out the sensor fixes the problem, costing around $350 depending on local labor rates.

Clutch failures happen on some manual transmissions, which is a small percentage of the total Jetta models, at around 35,000 miles. The clutch is more sensitive in the VW Jetta than in some of its Japanese rivals, leading to it wearing out quickly. Replacing the clutch is a labor-intensive process which costs around $1,800.

The accessory control panel not working is another issue mentioned by owners at around 50,000 miles. In some cases there’s simply a loose connector which costs under $50 to fix. There are also reports of the control panel failing, which costs around $450 to replace.

There are 8 recalls on the 2015 Jetta, which is worse than average for a compact car. The most serious recall covers fuel leaking into the engine compartment. Volkswagen will replace the fuel rails on affected models for free. Other recalls cover the seat backs, as well as the brake master cylinder, which VW will all fix for free as well.

How Long Will the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta Last?

A well-maintained 2015 Jetta should last around 250,000 miles, which is about 50,000 miles less than the highly-rated Toyota Corolla. Regular annual maintenance costs are more expensive than average, according to data from Repair Pal, at $553 per year.

Nearly all 2015 VW Jetta models for sale will have over 100,000 miles, so buyers should be prepared to replace the heater control valve for $250, the brake booster costing $550, as well as the battery cable, which costs $200.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is good in the 2015 VW Jetta with available 4 or 6.5-inch screens for the stereo system. Optional safety technology includes a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, as well as forward collision warning systems.

Is the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta a Good Value?

Yes, the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta is a good value since it’s reliable and offers excellent build quality. Blue book prices range from $10,800 to $15,650, making it cheaper than a Mazda3 or Honda Civic. What Are the Differences Between Years?

The sixth generation of the VW Jetta was introduced in 2011, and replaced by the seventh generation in 2019.

2013: 4-wheel disc brakes standard across the lineup.

2014: 5-cylinder engine discontinued, optional rearview camera added.

2015: Minor exterior styling changes, better safety scores, nicer interior materials, and improved diesel engine.

2016: New base engine, standard touchscreen radio, and diesel engine unavailable.

2017: Standard rearview camera on all models, USB connectivity added.

2018: New wheel designs available as well as Wolfsburg edition model.

2019: Fully redesigned for the seventh generation with new safety tech and engines.

How Does the Volkswagen Jetta Compare to the Competition?

The 2015 Volkswagen Jetta ranks average compared to most other compact cars, while the overall fit and finish is better than the competition.

The Toyota Corolla is another compact car which costs around $1,000 more. Standard technology is better in the Toyota Corolla, whereas the VW Jetta has more room for passengers. We recommend the Toyota Corolla since they have lower ownership costs, making them a better choice for a used car.

The Honda Civic is a competitor which costs around $1,200 more. Performance is better in the Civic models with its more powerful engines, but interior materials are much nicer in the VW Jetta. We recommend the Honda Civic to most buyers since they usually last longer based on owner reviews.

Most Reliable Car I've Ever owned!
2015 1.8t is a workhorse. I have 160k miles and only had to replace the trunk latch for $60. I have changed the spark plugs once and the rear brake pads once as well. I change the oil every 10k miles and the air filter once a year. THE CAR HAS BEEN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

Happy, it is so reliable we are getting another this year.
I have my car for 5 years now and the only thing I had to do is get 4 new Tires, Plus my oil changes. I deliver food and put a lot of miles on my car. I am happy with everything about my Jetta, and plan to get another one this year. My family is very happy with the ride and how good it is on fuel.

2015 Jetta sel tdi-45 miles to the gallon.
My car is a diesel so I get average about 45 miles to the gallon. Very comfortable and quiet-rides smooth. Performs well and is heavier than the gas version. Gets around well in the winter-I have made it home in a blizzard or two. I have the sel so I have more options than the se. The screen is large and easy to read. Heats up very fast in the winter and has heated seats. Sunroof is nice so you can get some extra sunlight. So far has been reliable-I drive a lot for work. The only issue I have had so far was a leak in my def line but it was replaced and no issues since.

I love my VW Jetta! I haven't had any issues with it thus far (a year in!). Services great and is awesome on gas mileage!! I have driven my car from California to Arizona, Minnesota, and Michigan! It has withstood the desert heat and winter cold of Minnesota just fine.

It is reliable and does not require much maintenance.
I bought my Jetta when it was about one year old. It has been a good car, not needing much repair and pretty reliable. I am really not that particular about the type of car I drove except that it must be able to remain in working condition without much attention.
accountCircle Thompson S on June 8, 2021
It is nice to look at, easy to drive, very reliable, and makes me feel cool.
On the outside, the car is very sleek. It is low profile and not very bulky. The tires are also low profile tires, which make the car seem sporty. As you enter the vehicle, you will notice leather seats and black interior. The inside is also incredibly sporty. The radio and interior lights all light up red, which is a favorite of mine. It has many fun details on the inside such a Bluetooth, touch screen radio, and accessible dash. It drives very smooth, speeds up quickly, and is reliable.

Wonderful car, for single and family.
I love this car! I have had no problems with anything on the car. Just normal upkeep is all. It is comfy with room for all shapes and sizes. Trunk has a lot of room with the back seats coming down to provide more room for bigger items to haul. This car has lasted through winters and all with no rust.

This car has great mileage and a comfortable drive.
Diesel engine means I do not have to fill up my tank very often. I have had no major issues with my vehicle and any recalls have been handled quickly and without issue. The car is comfortable and easy to drive. Volkswagens have a good safety record and I appreciate that. The only thing that can be a pain is if you want to update your stereo system as the specs make finding people who can install and products that fit a pain.
accountCircle Payton B on June 6, 2021
Compact vehicle great in all seasons but winter.
It is a great compact car. Super lightweight and easy to park. Accelerates quickly due to car being lightweight, however this feature also makes it awful to drive in the winter months. I also think that Volkswagen base model vehicles lack a lot of features that American made vehicles include such as automatic lights and a better stereo system. It is also a compact car so it lacks storage space but that is not really an issue for me. Other than my Jetta being terrible in the winter it is a great car in all other months.
accountCircle timothy J on June 4, 2021
It is fairly inexpensive and reliable.
My vehicle is good for commuting, which is why I bought it. It is good on gas and drives really well. However, it is a basic package with not many options as I was trying to be economical. One thing I really dislike is the tech/audio system. The worst audio system I have ever had in a vehicle.

Best Volkswagen Jetta ever.
I absolutely love my car. I have not had one problem since I've had it. It's a car I can count on to start and go every single time and it's so comfortable to drive. I would recommend to anyone that is looking into buying a Jetta for sure. I would buy another newer model.

Drives smoothly, long term durability with every Volkswagen I have owned.
This is my third Volkswagen, but first that is has a diesel engine. It drives wonderful and gets great gas mileage. I do not like that I have to add adblue, roughly twice a year, to keep the car functioning. Another downfall is there are no USB ports to plug into.
accountCircle Dee M on May 19, 2021
Always a Volkswagen family member.
I love my turbo sport Jetta! It takes turns well and love the little boost it has. It is fairly comfortable for my long distance drives, although I wouldn't want to do it often. I do not have a sunroof which I would have liked a lot. The Bluetooth is very handy but sometimes it acts up and makes for a frustrating drive. I never use the GPS installed, it is terrible. Overall, I love my VW and plan on staying with it for years to come.
accountCircle Luis B on May 18, 2021
Most comfortable Jetta ever made.
Of all the cars I have driven and/or owned in my life this one has given me the less problems. In fact 0 problems. Although it may not have the most technology features it sure is reliable and comfortable to drive. It is compact and yet if offers great space and room for both the front and back sits.

2015 VW Jetta gli sel review.
It's a great vehicle. A model that is very sporty yet very affordable. The mk6 format is a very simple base platform with endless possibilities when it comes to add ons or modifications. While the vehicles display for power is obvious, it falls short in handling. Despite being FWD, it struggles mightily in the unpredictable elements that often plague winter here in the northeast. Being a German vehicle, the longevity is there in terms of reliability, however you pay in the long term with routine maintenance for the vehicle.

2015 VW Jetta. Great little commuter for a reasonable price.
Great sporty little car for a low price. Performance and handling rival more expensive sport cars. Plenty of power. Good tight handling. Had to replace the whole suspension close to 100k miles. Wiring harness shorted out and many warning lights remain on.

Great car all around, great performance!
No problems, great performance. Bought as my first car and does great, requires little maintenance. Only complaint is the lack of apple CarPlay, but that is an easy fix. Parts for repair can sometimes be expensive but that is because it's a foreign car and not because of the vehicle itself.

Good first car for young adult that puts minimal miles on vehicle each year.
Less miles per gallon than advertised. Tires have needed to be replaced twice in two years and less than 50,000 miles have been added. Cigarette lighters circuit has been blown multiple times, once was covered under warranty and the other times has been replaced and began working. However it no longer is able to be repaired.

2015 VW Jetta, would purchase again.
This vehicle has served me very well as a young single person. It has excellent gas mileage and drives very responsively. The vehicle holds a lot of space in the truck and fits passengers comfortably. In the last year, this 5 year old car has had an issue with consuming oil quickly. It does not make it more than 1000 miles without going through a quart of oil. When given an oil change treatment, it lasted 2000 miles, but this is still very discouraging and the only thing I wish that was different about this car. Also, it's done very well in snow with snow tires!

My car has been very reliable so far, with no issues as of yet. Aside from some issues with the key fob. The controls are all very intuitive and easy to use, and the car is incredibly comfortable. It gets fantastic gas mileage, and has made me very happy.

Great, reliable, and fun vehicle!
Smooth, quiet drive. Reliable. Comfortable with heated seats. A few issues I have noticed is the leather seats get very hot in the summer. The dashboard alert lights come on when there are no issues. The gas cap light comes on without a real issue. Gas mileage is great. Love this car!

2015 Jetta 1.8t sport reliable and fun to drive.
This has been a great car without any issues. Headlights were very dim but I did upgrade them to led which helped a lot. Excellent gas mileage and the turbo makes this very fun to drive. Interior has the tuxedo color on the sport trim which makes it look great.

VW Jetta - not a comfy ride.
It's not a very comfortable vehicle. I have trouble reaching the pedals and seeing over the steering wheel. I have never had this problem with a car. I can only reach the tip of the pedals. If I make my seat higher to see over the wheel, it is even harder to reach the pedals. Also it is not that smooth of a ride. A little bumpy and not great acceleration.

It gets great gas mileage and still has enough horsepower to get in the fast lane and go.
It is a great car. Has power, speed and gets great gas mileage. No complaints.

Great money saver on gas expenses.
Small a/c problem, very reliable, saves good money on gas, great drive would recommend to friends and family, car is reliable and have driven many miles and is still in good tact, parts are somewhat cheap when needed to buy. A/c only stopped working for a bit but was quickly fixed.

Overall, the Jetta is a great car with many features.
The car is very well made and gets extremely great gas mileage! The seats themselves are comfortable with features to help adjust them to make the driving experience better with ease. The car itself has many features which help enhance the driving experience. The Bluetooth capability helps when traveling using maps and not wanting to look at your phone.

Sleek, smooth, and comfortable ride.
Drives smooth, Bluetooth connectivity is easy, comfortable seats and good mpg. Intuitive steering, comfortable seats, huge trunk space. Low profile and sport mode with plenty of 'get up and go' for when you need it. Apple CarPlay and XM Sirius radio.

Car has been very reliable. There has been minimal mechanical issues. The seat are comfortable with good leg space. The only criticism is the mpg could be better
The car has been reliable with mechanical issues thus far after 100,000 miles

Temperature control is not great.
My car accelerates fairly decently, but has trouble accelerating when the air conditioning is on. There are only 4 fan options for a/c and heat, and there's no seat-warmers. All-in-all, it runs pretty well, and I haven't had any major issues with it.

Betta Jetta the best car to own.
My vehicle runs great. I've had it for five years now I just had to replace the battery and the window motor went out on the same day other than that I haven't had any issues. It's easy to maintain as long as you keep the maintenance up to date. I am satisfied with my purchase.

Great reliable vehicle at a good value.
So far no problems, it runs great and just requires regular maintenance. My concern is that german car parts are typically more expensive and have just a few shops that are qualified to work on them, outside of the vw dealership. It is very comfortable, easy to handle and looks sleek. I don't need all the bells and whistles either, and it just the right amount.

That it is one of my favorite cars I have ever owned.
I love the handling and the pace of the car. The design is great. The interior "neon" lighting is great. My one "minor" complaint is that it can be a little noisy due to its proximity to the ground.

The Blue Jetta is the best car ever!
I have had no problems at all with my Jetta! It has always been very reliable even tho I purchased it used. The color is very attractive z. It is royal blue. The interior is gray and black. It brakes very well and the stealing is easy! I would recommend this vehicle.

I love my 2015 Volkswagen Jetta.
My vehicle gets great gas mileage and I love that. I also like the way it looks. My only concern with my vehicle is that maintenance can be a little expensive. Oil changes are a little more expensive. Overall I love my car. I have had it for five years now.
