2014 Toyota Sienna Review: Best Minivan of 2014 Offering Extreme Dependability & Comfort

Alex Showalter
Oct 4, 2022

The 2014 Toyota Sienna lasts over 300,000 miles with only some minor speedometer and automatic door issues. At $14,275 to $18,100, it’s expensive, but worth the money for the best minivan from 2014.

likeFilled The Good
There’s a powerful V6 engine, it’s the only minivan available with all-wheel-drive and the cabin is quieter than the competition.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Steering is loose feeling, advanced safety features are only found on the Limited model and there’s a lot of plastic in the cabin.

Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna a Good Used Minivan?

  • Overall Rating 8/10 – 2014 is an excellent year for the Sienna, earning a high overall rating since it lasts longer than other minivans. Owner reviews praise the spacious interior, powerful engine, and available all-wheel-drive system.
  • Interior, Comfort & Cargo 8/10 – Interior materials are well made, the seats are comfortable like a couch, there’s also more than enough cargo space for all your gear.
  • Reliability 10/10 – There are no widespread problems reported on the 2014 Toyota Sienna. Buyers should avoid models from 20062007. We recommend 20082020 models, which are all great
  • Performance 7/10 – The standard V6 engine makes decent power for a minivan, however, it’s not very exciting to drive.
  • Safety 8/10 – The 2014 Sienna is safe, earning a perfect 5-star rating in government crash tests. Optional safety features include a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, along with adaptive cruise control.
  • Gas Mileage 7/10 – Fuel economy is okay at up to 21 MPG, giving 420 miles of range from the 21 gallon tank. Gas prices are $29 cheaper than average at $232 per month.
  • Value 8/10 – Prices are high on the 2014 Sienna, however it’s the most reliable minivan making it a great long-term value proposition.

That Toyota is very reliable.
This has been one of the best vehicles I own. I just love Toyota overall. We've always had good luck with them. My van is next to the top of the line. It is very comfortable and is very roomy.

Perfect family car for all the ages and stages!
Ultra comfortable and perfect for a family. Transitions from perfect for small kids and loading car seats in and out, to toddlers who can get in the car independently. I do not even have to worry about door dogs or fingers slammed in doors. Now, I can drive carpool or the sports team places and still have room for gear!
accountCircle Shannon S
Good for families and traveling.
Love the fold down seats in the back for extra storage. Also like the high air Venus that work well with a rear- facing car seat. The rear camera is also very helpful, as are the automatic doors, especially when you are hands are full. Overall a great car.

Spare tire is easy to access. LED lights that wrap around are essential for country roads. Battery is easy to access.
I have owned my toyota sienna for 4 years now and have really enjoyed it thus far. Limited issues beyond normal maintenance.

A comfortable minivan for those with kids or without!
I love accessibility from the front of the vehicle to the back without having to get out. I am able to fit a ton of stuff inside the minivan. Moat are impressed with it and say they are surprised at how roomy it is. I would definitely buy another Toyota sienna. It gets about 21 miles to the gallon with regular use and 23 for highway.

I love the backup camera.
I love the automatic sliding doors. The captain seats are great for my kids. I love how spacious it is. I feel safe driving my family in it. The trunk is spacious and I love the backup camera. My favorite family car we have ever bought.

Dependable. It travels up and down east coast twice a year. Never has a problem
Spacious, comfortable for traveling, good mileage. Dependable

It can safely fit four car seats, which is wonderful since children now have to be in some sort of car seat until age 8 or 9.
I love that my car is big enough to fit both my young children and that there is room to grow. We can fit everything when we go on road trips. I love the backup camera. I wouldn't change anything about it.

I hate my Toyota Sienna Minivan! Too young to drive a minivan
The DVD player provides an unclear picture. The GPS and screen for navigation are not sufficient technology for the price that you pay for the vehicle. It is not a very smooth ride and the gas mileage is poor. The flooring in the vehicle is low quality and extremely hard to maintain.
accountCircle Alain C
Reliability with one exception.
Toyota is a very reliable car but the biggest problem with this model lies in the automatic sliding doors. Inevitably over time and use, the doors begin to malfunction and the cost of repair is extremely high. Outside of this costly inconvenience, the van is very reliable in any and all weather conditions. We've put a lot of miles and travel on ours and it is still going strong.

The Toyota sienna comfortable family car and hauling vehicle.
This car has been serving me for 6 years, I have yet to discover any issues with the vehicle, it has great power with its stock v6 engine and has been able to get me through snow and ice with ease, the interior is comfortable and safe, with ample space, all the chairs are collapsible adding space when needed. Overall the Toyota sienna is a great purchase for the family or business that transport groups or transport resources.

Sienna Toyota van comments.
No repairs ever needed. Runs great. Good gas mileage. Regulate maintenance done. It has 10 cup holders and can carry 8 passengers. The heated seats are great for winter time. Seats are very comfortable. Lots of legroom for every seat. Backs seats fold flat into the floor.

The perfect van for you and your family.
The performance and reliability are substantial. The comfort level is also superior. There is plenty of room and has an option for a third seat in the middle row or not. The trunk space is also large. Any problems with the vehicle are purely aesthetic because of my dog and children.

Great car. Love the automatic door!
The third row and back seats are very comfortable and recline. I do not like the backup camera and that it does not beep when you are close to another car. Love that the doors open from the key. This is very helpful when running errands with toddlers.

What Common Problems Does the 2014 Toyota Sienna Have?

Common problems found on the 2014 Toyota Sienna include an inaccurate speedometer,  a worn-out automatic door, and a broken fuel cap. Overall, these problems are minor compared to other minivans from 2014 with average repair costs too.

An inaccurate speedometer is a common complaint from owners at around 50,000 miles. The most likely source of the problem is a damaged wheel speed sensor. Replacing the sensor costs about $150, depending on local labor rates.

Worn-out automatic door motors are another issue reported by owners in the first 15,000 miles. Usually the door motor problems have been fixed under warranty. If a door motor wears out after the warranty is over, then replacing it costs around $600.

A broken fuel cap is also mentioned at roughly 100,000 miles. Fuel caps tend to wear out on most models as they age, requiring replacement. Often a broken fuel cap will also show a check engine light on the dash. Changing out the fuel cap is affordable, costing only around $20.

There are 6 average recalls on the 2014 Toyota Sienna. The worst recall is for a fuel delivery pipe which can leak, and Toyota will replace it for free. Other recalls include air bags, as well as loose nuts, which are common across most other minivans on the market.

How Long Will the 2014 Toyota Sienna Last?

A well-maintained 2014 Toyota Sienna can last over 300,000 miles, which is around 50,000 miles more than the Honda Odyssey. Regular annual maintenance costs are average for a minivan, at around $551 per year, according to data provided by Repair Pal.

Since nearly all used 2014 Sienna models have over 100,000 miles buyers should be prepared to replace the wheel bearings for $300, oil pan gasket costing $275, and the oil cooler line which costs around $200.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The third generation of the Toyota Sienna was launched in 2011, and replaced by the fourth generation in 2021.

2012: XLE model gets a power passenger seat and automatic headlights.

2013: Four-cylinder engine discontinued.

2014: Standard tow prep package added.

2015: Mid-cycle refresh with updated front grille and revised suspension.

2016: Siri Eyes Free added.

2017: Improved V6 engine and new 8-speed transmission.

2018: Standard Toyota Safety Sense Package, updated stereo system.

How Does the Toyota Sienna Compare to the Competition?

The Toyota Sienna is the best minivan offered in 2014 since it has such a long-lasting motor along with a well-made interior for the money.

The Honda Odyssey is another minivan which is around $1,000 cheaper. Technology is better in the Honda Odyssey with the standard infotainment screen, however, the Toyota Sienna has an available all-wheel-drive system. We recommend the Toyota Sienna since there are fewer owner complaints.

The Nissan Quest is a competitor which costs about $5,000 less. Steering is more responsive in the Nissan Quest, but the Toyota Sienna offers more space along with a nicer interior. We recommend the Toyota Sienna since there are a lot more mechanical problems reported on the Nissan Quest.

Fantastic family vehicle for the on the go gang.
My Toyota sienna is a great vehicle for my family- I have 4 kids, ages 1-10, and we have various activities, and love to travel. It fits everyone and their car seats, plus even with the third row up I have cargo space in the very back. It is a safe vehicle, and quiet on the road too. None of that rattling that large vehicles tend to have.

No-frills vehicle for a messy life.
I always said I would never get a minivan, but here I am! The Toyota sienna is no-frills, but it has the space- seats and cargo space alike- needed for my growing family (kids ages 10, 7, 3, 1) and their lives (dance, hockey, school, trips to the beach 2 hours away). Definitely recommend.

Lots of room, storage and comfort.
I love our van! I love how the seats lay down flat and I can carry lots of groceries for my large family. I also use it to haul items. We have helped friends move and out more in it than in a pickup truck! It is so reliable! J get great gas mileage up to 21 mpg! There’s not a lot of extras. But I love them all. Double dashboard storage. The shelf between front seats have large storage options.

Love our sienna! Has plenty of room for a family of 5. Has more room than most minivans. It is reliable and really good on gas, perfect for family road trips. Driving is nice and smooth and if you take care of it is going to last a long time. My favorite thing is that all the seats can fold down and the captain seats are removable with a simple lever.

I really like my Toyota sienna I haven't gotten it that long ago I have only had it for about a year. But I really like how it's really wide so if you have a big family it would be great to fit them in comfortably. It also has a camera for when you back up. It even has a navigation so that's awesome so you wouldn't have to use your phone and be interrupted. It also has a built in Bluetooth that connects with your phone where you can use to talk or even simply listen to music.

The perfect vehicle for Mom!
My Toyota Sienna LE is one of the best cars I have ever bought. I have three small children which means I have three car seats. All three fit in the middle row of the Sienna. It's a tight squeeze, but they all fit safely. This car is incredibly spacious making it very comfortable. We have a beach trip planned and are not concerned at all about our stuff fitting in the Sienna. The hands free system is a bit dated because it's a 2014 model, but it works. I don't have to cancel commands and repeat them too often. Gas mileage is pretty decent while driving through town. I want to say we get about 18 or 19 miles per gallon. The captain's chairs and rear seating are very heavy. I always have a difficult time sliding the captain's chairs forward and back. I've noticed in later models of the Sienna that the plastic covering the track tend to come up. I haven't noticed it happening with our Sienna yet though. It drives well, although something is up with the alignment that needs to be checked out. I've only had my brand new tires for 9000 miles and the front wheels are already needing to be replaced.

I have not had any problems with the sienna other than the trouble of a couple of recalls, but those were handled 100% by the dealership. It was only a mild inconvenience. The backup camera is only a few inches large, and sits deep into the dash, making it very difficult to even use more less rely on when backing up.

It is a great van for a family! It doesn't have a lot of frills, but it has exactly what it needs.
My vehicle is perfect for my family size. I have three children and I needed more space for their car seats. There is plenty of space for their seats and for anything we need to take with us. I love the sliding doors. That is so nice to have with young children! I love the rear camera that shows me what's behind me as I am backing out. That is one of my favorite features. 2014 Toyota sienna swagger wagon.
It has a very smooth drive. Seats are comfortable and easy to position. I have an 8th removable seat that is small and kind of a pain but has been useful in a pinch. In the middle row I have an infant seat and a toddler car seat both fit perfect and secure. Only real complaint is the glove box doesn't open. It was replaced when we bought the van used to never worked well then a month later broke again. Also all the surfaces on the dash are textured and rounded so you can't stick a holder for your phone to them. All around I love the van. Wish it had a power lift gate then it would be perfect.

Spacious, comfortable, updated, modern.
For my wife and I this is a very convenient and comfortable vehicle. If we go on a trip there is room to take all we want. If we take friends and or family with us to a function or a trip, the space and conveniences are very adequate. Hook ups for iPad, chargers, etc.. The only thing I do not like is that there is no spare tire. The run flat tires on there but the security of having that spare is a bit uncomfortable. Mileage is good and servicing is done on a regular basis.

The Toyota sienna is a great vehicle for families as it has customizable seating arrangements for up to eight passengers. Metallic grey with a sort of sparkle within the paint.
Very reliable, this car always runs when I need it to, very good at getting me around and the family. Decent fuel economy, as well as good handling. A very good family vehicle overall, no mechanical issues whatsoever with this car, very spacious interior.

A great car for big families.
Very dependable, great air. It has never broken down before. We go on road trips often, that are usually several hours away from home. It is a spacious car that is great for a big family. It also has lots of extra space for grocery store trips and other forms of transporting things. It is easy to clean and looks great on the road.

Take care of it, maintenance it and you will not have issues.
Great reliable family van, had it 2 years now and it was a previous 3 year lease. Haven't had any issues.

Toyota sienna: perfect for families.
This vehicle is perfect for large families, road trips, and other day-to-day shuttling. The seats are plush and plentiful, and there are tons of places in the car for storage. I especially enjoy how the ac and heating can be individualized for each passenger. The car drives extremely smoothly, and throughout my years with it we've experienced minimal problems with its performance.

You can still be cool driving a sienna!
We’ve only had our sienna a few months, but we fell in love with it right away. It is exactly what our young family of five needs. It has enough room for everyone to sit comfortably and store everything for road trips and grocery trips. It is easy to maneuver and manage.
