2013 Toyota Corolla Review: A Small Car Ready For A Redesign

Alex Showalter
Jan 22, 2022

The 2013 Toyota Corolla is a compact sedan with a price range of $9,407 to $13,953. Even though the Corolla is more expensive than competitors, the dependable powertrain earns our recommendation for shoppers, but the 2014 version has more technology.

Long-term reliability ratings are better than many other compact cars, the suspension is comfortable, and there’s decent passenger room for the class.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The infotainment technology is outdated, plastic-heavy interior is very cheap, and the engine is underpowered at highway speeds.

2013 Toyota Corolla: Quick Overview

  • New features are minor and include an updated front grille. 2013 is the final model year before a complete redesign in 2014.
  • Reliability ratings are great, according to J.D. Power, there are a similar number of complaints to earlier model years.
  • Only one engine is available, and is weak compared to other compact cars.
  • Fuel economy is average, tying for 11th place out of 39 compact cars with a combined rating of up to 29 miles per gallon.
  • Safety ratings are good, getting four out of five stars in government crash tests, and earning a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
  • The 2013 Corolla ranks 17th out of 39 compact cars, based on owner reviews. The Corolla is a good car, but falls in the middle of the class since there’s outdated technology, and other compact cars are more thrilling to drive.

It has aux, good radio, seats 6, looks nice on the outside, has cup holders.
It is so reliable we are a Toyota family and this car lasts forever! I drive over 200 miles to go to school in farmville and I have never felt like I was going to be left stuck on the side of the road, if you take care of this car it takes care of you.

Small, compact, and fuel efficient 2013 Toyota Corolla.
The vehicle is small and compact and is easy to maneuver. Although, it is not great as a family vehicle; it is too small and somewhat squishy. I have not had any mechanical issues with this vehicle. It runs smoothly and efficiently. It gets about 28 mpg. It has Bluetooth capability and powered windows.

Love my reliable corolla!
I have driven it across the country and it has never had any major issues. Love that it is fuel efficient. 7 years in and 150,000 miles in and I just replaced brakes. Have only had to do oil changes and regular maintenance work. Did have an issue with a clip breaking and a cover panel came down, but I was able to clip it back up.

Perfect vehicle for a single person or someone without kids.
Honestly nothing wrong with my car. I love how it saves gas. It take me from point A to point B. Very comfortable car to be. Do not recommend as a family car. It may be too small. This vehicle is very convenient for someone who is single or has no children.

Its super comfortable. Seats have warmer. Its digital. If fantastic. It tells you when there a mechanical problems super smart car. Gas mileage is fantastic. It lets you know when your tires need air or rotation. I couldn't of being happier. I love my car.

2013 Toyota corolla: reliable & modern.
I really love my Toyota corolla mostly because it is such a reliable vehicle. It has never given me any engine problems, or not made it any distance I need it to go. It was a great starter vehicle for me when I was fresh out of high school. I love the Bluetooth phone and music player additions, as well as, the touch screen monitor. The only thing I will say is, now that my car is about 7 years old it does show some wear on plastics in the car and certain electronic bugs have been noticed. Mostly my volume button on my dash does not work but the one on my steering wheel still does! I personally have been nothing but completely satisfied with my corolla and would absolutely buy another one.

Perfect for single driver car, perfect for convenience.
Comfort, right size, compact, good for commuting to and from work and school, performance is excellent especially as the only person in the car the driver, smooth engine and performance when driven, excellent on gas mileage, does not use that much gas, comfortable inside car, perfect for single driver.

There's special rust stain on the top.
Blind spots take a little while to get used to. Size is pretty decent for one or two people. This car would not be comfortable for families bigger than 4- 2 adults with 2 kids. Reliable reputation stands. Car has been in two accidents and the front bumper is zip tied on and it still functions normally.

Power steering failed
Now the power steering check engine lite has lit , can’t control the wheel easily , you can’t check the power steering fluid because it is electronic. It is a shame that Toyota is not reliable any more it is as bad and cheap as fiat or Chrysler .

That’s right craolla. It is a piece of c**p. Great gas mileage ( when it runs right) how many plugs and “COILS” do I have to go through after 30000 miles???? Too many that’s the answer. 6. And plugs, ha l4 times replaced those babies. Car has 60,000 on it. Never never again will I buy any Toyota related car or go cart for that matter

Buy a Toyota. Corollas are small but all notes are good.
Great car. But small. Wasn't taken care of before I bought it so not much love for it. Toyotas perform the best on the road in my opinion. I am buying a tundra in the fall. Corollas are super small so get a Camry or something more spacious! I have heard of yotas having 500,000+ miles on them.

Piece of junk.
I was told by many people that this car is the most reliable car anyone could have, so I got one. I haven’t even owned it for 2 years and it has broke down on me more than 10 times now. The battery has died on me multiple times as well. I don’t recommend, and I am never going back to Toyota.

I have found it to be reliable, however the handles on the ceiling at the doors have broken about three times in this vehicle. So they could be made more sturdy.

I have not experienced any problems with my corolla and I have been driving it for 4 years. For this reason it is a great car!

This is the best car when it comes to safety, gas efficiency, and reliability.
I love how my car has the ability to play music from my phone through bluetooth or a cord. It also has a great cruise control feature that allows me to keep a steady speed when I need to on long road trips. The seats in the car are very comfortable and a decent size as well. I love how the car lets you know when you are low on gas with an orange light by the fuel gauge. This is helpful when I need to get more gasoline.

Reliable vehicle that lasts.
My car is very reliable. All my life I've only had corollas. Not only is it reliable but its longevity speaks for itself. Time and time again my car has never let me down. My first car was a 1990 corolla and it lasted 20 years. No problems whatsoever.

Excellent vehicle for the price. Must have.
Excellent gas mileage and low maintenance costs. It also comes equipped with a great sound system with a lot of bass potential. I drive a lot for work, so sometimes I need music to keep my spirits up, and this car really delivers on that experience. Highly recommend to any person looking for a new vehicle for personal and/or business use.

The dark interior mixed with the white exterior make for a sporty-like car.
Overall I like the car, the speakers both below on the on the inside close to the rearview mirrors is a great addition, it provides a more dome like sound when listening to the stereo, a quality in which I can appreciate. It does leave a little much to be desired as far as room goes, I do wish there was a little bit more leg space, a little bit more with in a little bit more horsepower.

2013 Toyota corolla: nice car!
My car has really had no problems besides me having to replace the battery after 5 years. I wish the seats were more comfortable, but other than that it is a really good and reliable car. It gets good gas mileage and it is very comfortable to drive long distances in. It has a small gas tank so it does not cost very much to fill up the tank either.

A reliable ride. Driving feels like contentment.
I have been driving a corolla since 2008. The feel of the car is very comfortable to me. It feels safe and smooth and user-friendly. The controls are responsive and forgiving. The fuel efficiency is good for its price range. For a sedan, it has a good amount of storage. My last corolla was still running great when at almost 200k miles and I anticipate that the same will be the case with my current car. I am at around 70k miles and I have not had to take it in for any repairs - only for maintenance (oil, tires, brakes and the like).

Toyota corolla on mountain adventures.
My Toyota corolla sport is definitely reliable. It has worn well since I begin my lease in 2012. Being in my eighth year of owning it, I am just now having to put in money to fix things. It handles well in the city and mountains, since I live in Denver I often make trips through difficult altitude roads. The Bluetooth connection and touchscreen or great features for the car. It comfortably can fit five and has plenty of room in the trunk.

Very good reliability but limited comfort.
It is an inexpensive commute car. Its reliability is really good but not a car for long distance travel due lack of comfort and space. The performance of corolla is below average. Its in-car entertainment is limited so you will not expect high tech for this vehicle.

Fuel efficient, low maintenance. Has a smooth ride and a decent stereo with Bluetooth and aux input. Does has manual climate control but the sunroof is great. Has a somewhat sporty look to it also. It's got plenty of power to get you going down the road! Tinted windows are a must.

White chariot that wind will blow gloriously on your face!
It is compact sedan that is good on gas and good on highway riding. This little white chariot can get you going from one side of the road to another. The way this corolla hugs the road during a curvy ride down the most winding road. The car does have over 80,000 miles on it but it is a Toyota which last forever!

My thoughts on the 2013 corolla.
My Toyota corolla is decently reliable, easy to care for, very standard and basic, and simple car to drive. It is not my favorite car though. Not much room inside and it is decent on gas. It works the same way it has when I got it in the past one or two years. It currently has over 100 thousand miles.

It works I wish the ac was better for the Las Vegas heat.
It loses the undercarriage cover very easily. It came off twice and I have not replaced it since the last time. One was cross country trip going from Las Vegas to Minnesota and all but one ‘bolt’ broke just from a small lip in the high from going on to new asphalt. The second time was not a 3-4 month after getting it replaced. The whole thing just went flying out from under my car as I was driving down a 70 mph highway.

Great commuter car - grey Volvo 2013.
Very good on gas and easy-to-read dials. Great-sounding speaker system as well. Comfortably seats a 6-foot-plus male in the drivers seat, with clear visibility from all angles. Average trunk space and back seat space. Seats five, four comfortably. Only drawback is slower acceleration but that is not why you are buying this car!

It's good on gas. I average 325-350 miles per tank. The seats are comfy and there is plenty of legroom. The seatbelts randomly lock. The heat and air conditioning work great. Cabin filters are kind of pricey for how often you have to replace them. It's a decent vehicle.

Very reliable. I didn't think it would get me to work in the snow, which is 50 miles on way, but it has. It has had some transmission issues, put in a new transmission in 2019. Good gas mileage. Oil change is more expensive since it takes synthetic oil. Out of alignment very easy. Break wear is average. Tire wear is average. Kind of small on the inside. Have had to replace the stereo. Good gas mileage.

2013 corolla le interior design/comfort review.
Car drives well and is reliable, the only issue with the actual function of the car is it can take some time to accelerate. In terms of comfort, the seats are not the most comfy and difficult to adjust. Additionally the floor material is cheap and wears down fast. It is very reliable, I hate the interior, has been on one long drive and now is making an odd sound when the air is on or in reverse. Having it looked at this week. Other than that has been a great car. It is a little small, if you have kids or travel with others a lot I would not recommend.

My wonderful experience with my Toyota corolla.
My corolla has great air conditioning as well as heat. I love the Bluetooth feature also! The issue I have had most with this car is the brakes. Now that could be my own fault because I follow too shortly. I only have 40,000 miles on the car and have had to change them once. However it is entirely possible that the previous driver before me was even worse than I was at slamming the brakes. I bought the car when it had 26,000 miles. The corolla performs really well. I have yet to deal with any problems. However there is a safety recall on the 2013 corolla, affecting the seatbelts.

Corolla: small but perfect.
The car drives extremely smooth. There is a lot of storage in the trunk and the back seat. The back seat has a lot of legroom for passengers to fit comfortably. There are two compartments for the glove box for ample storage along with an elbow rest for storage. I have nothing but good things to say about Toyota’s and their quality of their cars.

I like that the car has good gas mileage. Also the car is 5 years old and still in great condition and does not look outdated. Good quality vehicle.

Sleek looking car with few problems.
Has decent gas mileage and comfortable seating. It looks sleek while driving and drives well in most weather conditions. One problem with the car is that the front bumper of the car sticks out from the car. I have seen this problem with several makes of the car. It makes the car look less nice since it is constantly sticking out. It also takes some time to heat up in the winter.

A car with pizzazz. Bluetooth and more, this is the car you've been looking for!
Car has great mileage. Smooth on highways, comfortable seats, air conditioning, radio and cell phone features such as Bluetooth and charging, special icons of notification of car failures. Car is perfect for my height and needs. Big trunk and lots of legroom in front and back.

I love how smooth the ride is.
It is a beautiful car. I would recommend it to anyone. It drives great and does not give me too much trouble. It drives smoothly, however you have to be careful on driveways and entrances, the dip may bump the skirt of the car if you have the skirt kit on.

The one most important thing about my car is she's reliable and meets my needs.
My vehicle is my favorite. It has a touchscreen radio. It also has the capability of connecting your phone through the radio. This makes it hands free if you receive a phone call. I have a sunroof and it's my 2nd favorite thing. I love driving around with my sunroof open and feeling the summer breeze.
