The 2019 Ram 1500 lasts around 250,000 miles with some stereo system software and steering issues reported. At $26,599 to $55,223, it’s more affordable than many other full size trucks making it a good value for shoppers on a budget.

Passenger room is fantastic throughout the cabin, the stereo system works great and the suspension is smooth on rough roads.
dislikeFilled The Bad
There’s no long bed available on any model, off-road performance is poor and there are more problems than some other trucks.

Is the 2019 Ram 1500 a Good Used Truck?

  • Overall Rating 8/10 – 2019 is a good year for the Ram 1500 since it’s a reliable truck with some good technology, giving it a high overall score. Owner reviews praise the low ownership costs, upscale interior, and the relatively quick V8 engine.
  • Interior, Comfort & Cargo 8/10 – Interior materials are nicer than other full-size trucks, the seats offer plush cushioning for long drives, there are also two bed lengths.
  • Reliability 8/10 – There are not any serious mechanical issues on the 2019 Ram 1500. Avoid models from 20122015 since they have engine problems. Trucks from 20162022 are much more dependable.

  • Safety 8/10 – The 2019 Ram 1500 is reasonably safe, earning 4 out of 5 stars in government crash tests. There’s a standard rearview camera. Optional upgrades include automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, as well as adaptive cruise control.
  • Gas Mileage 7/10 – Fuel economy is good at up to 23 MPG, giving 529 miles of range from the 23 gallon tank. Gas costs are $66 cheaper than average at $207 per month.
  • Value 9/10 – The 2019 Ram 1500 is cheaper than many other full size trucks while also depreciating slowly, making it a good overall value.

My. Ram has stood up to the reviews and moved from a truck to a luxury vehicle.
This is my second ram 1500, and I have had very few problems. The ride is more comfortable and spacious that any truck I have owned on the past. The size of the back seats makes it easy for my kids to ride in the back and still be comfortable. The heated seat and steering wheel are great additions from my last truck. I also appreciate the large storage compartments between the front seats and under the rear seat.

Beautiful and reliable truck.
So far, nothing to complain. Great performance, reliable and comfortable. Big trips are no problem, you have space to stretch. Do not forget to buy the soft cover for the box. It helps a lot keeping stuff in. We used the truck to move to a new house, the box has a great size.

Great truck would definitely recommend.
Great truck! Interior and exterior trim is amazing! Love the cooling and heated seats. Sound system could be better. Navigation system could be better. Interior leather is awesome. Cashiers assist is awesome. Drivers and riders really well. Would definitely recommend.

User friendly & safe. Great for everybody!
I have absolutely loved driving my ram 1500. I always feel very comfortable and safe driving it. The safety features it has are user friendly and help you to ensure you are driving safely. I love that it is a bigger truck, but not too big that it may be an issue to park. The heated seats and steering wheel are amazing in the winter time. I also really love the air conditioned seats!

I absolutely love the backup camera it helps me so much.
No problems at all. It is so comfortable and I feel safe driving it. It is a beautiful charcoal grey the tires are a good size and they ride really smooth. It has a backup camera with helps me in some tight spaces. The stereo system is awesome the sound is adjustable and how does it sound good. Interior is a lighter grey but in the heat of summer it keeps YOU cooler... The air conditioner will freeze you out I absolutely love the truck.

Love everything about it. And the color.
Does not drive like a truck. Very comfortable to drive and very easy to drive, take getting use to parking it at a store. It goes through snow like it is not there. Going over bumps you do not even notice them. Very comfortable to sit in. Very easy to back. Love how high it sits.

Great truck and a great value.
Most bang for your Buck. Truck is reliable, comfortable and performs very well. More power than you really need, but tows a 25’ boat with ease. The trim level that are not options in a ram, are expensive options in other brands. I would highly recommend a ram truck.

Awesome truck with comfort and gas mileage.
The truck is fun to drive there are rarely any problems with it I have never had to do any maintenance other than an oil change. The gas mileage is pretty good for a truck and it drives very comfortably. It has a great time capacity and plenty of room in the cab.

REBEL 2019
I bought this truck last fall. About a month after auto start would shut off. Engine light would come on. Took it in 3 times they put dielectric grease in the plug going into the TCM transmission control module. They extended my warraty to 100,000 miles. The problem came back again this year but worse. I backed up with the doors closed made it 3' and the truck shut down. It slammed the em brake on, put itself in park. It did that 3 times. Then it would not start. They told me to disconnect the battery. Wiped out the code.know they have no idea what is wrong with it. They told me to come and get it, and call when ithappened again. Nope, you can keep it until you find out what the problem is! Its been a week! Call attorney, I will let him deal with this s**t! I will let yall know what the out come is later. Stay away from the Ram Rebel. And Dodge of Burnsville Mn.

4 times in 2500 mi. And the computer recorded nothing and the dealership did the same, NOTHING. Ram rep. In Detroit by phone at arbitration meeting at Hayes dealership Gainesville Ga. Place of purchase, said it preformed as designed because it showed no codes. She as much said we made this up. No help offered. WE asked and it was AGREED to by all including the SERVICE MGR. To install a co-pilot until the truck went into limp mode again. Went to have it installed the SERVICE MGR. Changed the time to 3 weeks. He lied. Ram said there was no problem, we got average mileage and it was after all under warranty. This is corporate attitude. Worthless. With her assuring me the truck was preforming as designed I took the financial hit and bought a 2020 tundra at a reputable dealership a block away who I did business with before. 6 Dodge trucks in 35 yrs.and then this lemon and Ram said you are on your own. Sadly someone is driving the unsolved problem because a worthless dealership and manufacture won't even try to solve the problem. My 2 sons who own Ram trucks will never do business with Ram again. I loved that truck if it would only run like the other 6 did. I still own my 2015 Hemi. Footnote...My brother had a Hyundai with a similar problem, his dealership gave him a rental while an engineer from corporate solved the problem in a few days. Guess what 2020 he just bought? Who would you do business with? Build a brand-Kill a brand. Build a dealership-Kill a dealership.

Horrible humming noise
I bought my 2019 Big Horn in January. Loved it at first. But began noticing a low pitched humming noise when coasting. This is becoming so loud that I can't even hold conversation with my passengers!!! I can't stand this and no one seems to have a fix!!! It sounds dangerous and I am starting to fear driving this truck, whichhappens to be the only way I can get to work. Don't buy it!!!!

Constantly in Shop
Second day I owned the truck (bought brand new) truck broke down not once but three times. Had it towedtwice and couldn’t find a thing wrong with it. My husband suspected the fuse box and the third time in, the fuse box was completely burnt up. No truck for three weeks. Oh and dodge would not pay for my tow because we were not even in the system the first two times. This all happened within a three week period of date of purchase. My warranty was so new on the truck it hadn’t registered either to use that as a back up tow. Also the rack and pinion steering has come loose twice and I’ve had the truck for three and a half months. Beautiful truck, fun to drive, but I’ve been out of it more than I’ve been in it. The money we spent on this truck I should be driving a Mercedes. HUGE disappointment!! Dodge is awful. Owned two Dodge vehicles; never again.

Unreliable
My 2019 Bighorn has lost all power AGAIN! I'm going to pay for another tow. This is the third time this exact problem has happened and getting to work so I can pay for this $55,000 paperweight is getting old fast. I can't stress enough how much I wish I would have bought another Chevy.

Nothing works!
None of the features work; tailgate doesn’t open, Tailgate light on but not open, back up auto breaks when there is nothing there, back up camera goes black, radio turns on all by itself, the chrome RAM logo on dashboard is blinding on a sunny day. Oh yeah and the power keeps dying, towed out of my own driveway twice now. Dealership is clueless, not once has been able to provide the error code. It’s in the shop now! I feel robbed, spent sooo much $ on this truck and I can't even trust driving it.

Seems like truck skipped final inspection
As a contractor i do a lot of driving between quotes, picking and dropping off workers, getting material. I live 30-45 mins from any major city so I spend a lot of time in truck. First thing I come to learn iswhen I went to fill up windsheild was her fluid the first time ( I normally would fix my own vechile as I’m mechanically inclined, but don’t have time so I bought new) I come to see what appeared to be a loose bolt on the raf fan frame. Thinking it was weird I looked at other side both sides were loose enough that there was 1/2 inch of thread showing. After tightening them up I thought I would Inspect a little further and come to find my head lightbolts loose, the one side only has 1 bolt left holding it in place as others must have vibrated out so it doesn’t sit straight no more. Next thing is that ok random occasion water will pour into cab from the grab handle on the front colum by steering wheel but yet head liner remains perfectly dry. Another thing is I’m missing a bolt for the drivers side tail light witch makes it rattle around, lastly what bothers me is the radio will only work when it seems like it wants to and I haven’t done anything aftermarket to it

What Do Critics Say About the Ram 1500?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Ram 1500 offers more passenger room and better fuel economy with good owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Ram 1500 at 3.4/5, praising the smooth suspension, but doesn’t like that safety features are only on higher models.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Ram 1500 Have?

Common problems found on the 2019 Ram 1500 include the stereo system freezing up, the steering wheel getting stuck at the 11 o’clock position, as well as not shifting out of first gear. Overall, these problems are a bit worse than some other full size trucks, although repair costs are average.

The stereo system freezing up is the most common complaint from 2019 Ram 1500 owners in the first 5,000 miles. There are software updates for the Uconnect system which improves its reliability. Most dealerships will install software updates for free, although some may charge around $50.

The steering wheel getting stuck at the 11 o’clock position is another serious issue mentioned on the 2019 Ram 1500 at around 10,000 miles. There are some known problems with the rack and pinion steering assembly. Many owners have had the entire assembly replaced for free under warranty, while others say it’s around $1,500 to change out of warranty.

Failure to shift out of first gear is another problem mentioned by Ram 1500 owners, which happens in the first 20,000 miles. There are transmission control module software updates available which improve transmission reliability. Nearly all dealerships will update the software for free, while some charge around $100.

There are 24 recalls on the 2019 Ram 1500 series, which is significantly worse than many other full size trucks. Most of the recalls are relatively minor covering air bags, which are not a big concern once they’ve been replaced. Some of the most serious recalls cover the high pressure fuel pump and the EGR cooler, which Ram will replace on affected models for free.

How Long Will the 2019 Ram 1500 Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Ram 1500 can last around 250,000 miles, which is around 100,000 less than the top-rated Toyota Tundra. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other trucks according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $550 per year.

As a used 2019 Ram 1500 reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the exhaust manifold for $500, the refrigerant pressure sensor costing $220, as well as the knock sensor which costs around $300.

I have only had the truck about 2 months and have not had any issues as of yet. We are also in our snow season and it seems to do very well handling driving through snow and ice.

accountCircle Jocelyn H

No problems reliable starts every time even in sub zero weather. Like remote start works every time.

accountCircle Don B

There have been no issues! This truck is very reliable and the performance is amazing! Starts every time and runs like a champ!

accountCircle Al G

So far I have had absolutely no problems with the vehicle. Everything has been a pleasure to use and drive.

accountCircle Sarah C

So far the only issues we have came across was a light on in the glove box, other than factory recalls.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is better than other trucks, with the work-focused tradesman having a standard 5-inch touchscreen. The consumer-focused models come standard with an 8.4-inch UConnect touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There’s also an extremely large 12-inch UConnect stereo system available

Safety technology is also good with a standard rearview camera. Optional advanced safety features include a surround-view parking camera system, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, parallel and perpendicular park assist, as well as adaptive cruise control.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The fifth generation of the Ram 1500 series was launched in 2019.

2015: New sportier R/T model introduced.

2016: More exterior color choices as well as an upgraded center console on all models.

2017: Outdoorsman model and six-speed automatic transmission, both discontinued.

2018: Updated 8.4-inch touchscreen Uconnect system, standard rearview camera on all models, Tungsten edition model introduced.

2019: Fully redesigned for the fifth generation with new interior, exterior, engine choices, and a higher towing capacity.

2020: Night Edition package available, new optional 3.0L EcoDiesel engine offered.

2021: High-performance TRX model introduced, optional head-up display added.

How Does the Ram 1500 Compare to the Competition?

The 2019 Ram 1500 series is a very nice truck since it has a more luxurious cabin than a lot of the competition on the market, while still having some powerful engine choices. It’s a good choice for shoppers in the market for a new truck.

The Ford F-150 is a popular competitor, which costs around $6,000 more. Where the Ford F-150 stands out is with a higher towing capacity, while the Ram 1500 offers a nicer interior for the money. We recommend the Ford F-150 since they have better long-term reliability ratings, although both are decent trucks worth checking out.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 series is another popular truck which is around $5,000 more. Ownership costs are more affordable in the Chevy Silverado 1500 series, while the Ram 1500 offers more passenger room. We recommend the Chevy Silverado 1500, yet both are very good trucks that are worth a test drive.

Vehicle only has 17000 k and have had issues with mapping and guidance, had to have replaced at cost of $1000. Chrysler refuses to take responsibility for an obvious defective system, this will be my last Chrysler product for a very longtime.

Skip the big horn, get a Laramie.
The big horn trim is a joke. Go for a Laramie or a limited. And if you are getting black, go for the midnight package. The seats are not comfortable nor heated. No remote start. The locking mechanism on the tailgate never wants to work correctly. It is cool that the back seats flip up for more cargo room.

Ram 1500 review of comfort.
Rides nice and comfortable. I really like the way it handles in the snow and mud. The comfort of the tech is unbeatable and great to have in this truck. I wish it had an onboard nav system instead of relying on the mobile phone. Heated and vented rear seats would be nice on the Laramie.

This is a very reliable vehicle and I am very happy with this purchase! This truck is very clean inside and out and has a lot of room. Good for long trip, very comfortable. It has seat heating and cooling and heating on the steering wheel which is really nice for the winter. It has amazing technology! You can set the vehicle for yourself and set is for a secondary driver as well. By a click of a button, it will save your seat adjustment, radio station and mirrors. You just press your setting (1) or (2) and it automatically adjusts to you.

Put in gear at your own risk.
The ram 1500 is a nice full size truck with great luxury upgrades such as a touchscreen media center. It also has lots of storage room for a truck. Putting the vehicle in gear is annoying as it is a dial knob near the radio dial. The large center does leave a lot to be desired as it has a lot of wasted space.

Poorly designed dashboard.
The truck is very spacious inside. The dashboard is very user friendly and easy to navigate around. The only downside is that they put the shifter on the dashboard in a knob form and put it right next to the a/c knob. This is very nerve-racking when you are driving 65 down the highway and want to turn the ac down. Very poor design! The hauling power is very lackluster also.

Smooth driving and great gas mileage!
We’ve had the truck for about two months now and she’s absolutely great! I am surprised as to how little gas she guzzles and her overall handling. There has only been one instance of concern, when disconnecting a mobile device via Bluetooth her screen froze completely. All the pros of a truck without any of the cons.
Super comfortable and easy to drive. Does not handle like a big truck but still feels like you are sitting up and feels very safe. Hauls great, I haul a three horse trailer full and it is no problem for the engine. 4wd is great, never had any problems. Sensors and backup cameras make it perfect for people who are not used to driving a big vehicle. Truck is pretty fast but still gets decent mileage on the freeway.

Computer system failures
Bought the Ram 1500 Laramie new in 2919. Computer systems failure has sent my truck in for service thr ee times. Second incident entire system shut down while going 55mph on the highway. Was very fortunate that no one (children in truck with me) was injured. Main computer was replaced. However, computer failed again a month ago. Costs me more to have it towed 60 plus miles for service each time the computer system fails than it does for me to drive it! Worst new car/truck experience I have ever had.

High quality, high performing truck.
A very comfortable truck. The interior is very well made with lots of leather. The truck has a powerful engine which makes it easy to drive even though it is large. The only thing I do not like is the tires that come stock on the truck. They seem to wear at an accelerated rate.

Ram 1500: strong truck up hills.
This ram 1500 has been a great truck. It is very useful for transporting items in the bed. The backseat is very roomy, enough space for 2 large adult males to sit comfortably. The 5.7 l engine is strong enough to pull a 29 foot travel trailer and have enough power to pull it up steep grades.

So comfortable and roomy!
I love the 2019 ram bighorn. I got the crew cab and it is very spacious. A huge difference from my little car previously. There’s room for everything I need to put in it, while still being comfortable and roomy. I have only had an issue with the transmission once that turned out to be nothing, and the backup camera sometimes glitches but it always works afterwards.

Ram 1500, a must buy for any truck owner.
I love this truck. The new generation looks sharp when it is rolling and hard parked. The bighorn (or lonestar for my Texans out there) provides and exceptional trim package including the infotainment system. The 5.7l hemi performs exactly as expected. I really enjoy the roominess of the crew cab, and my passengers love it as well. I can seat 3 adults with ease in the back row. There is never any need for extra room in the back. Be wary of the parking sensors. They will lock up your brakes if the sensors are obstructed by dirt/dust. 10/10 would buy again.

Ram 1500 tradesman. Average work truck but great for families.
Amazing daily driver, not bad on gas, the room in the crew cab is the best. Ram trucks have come a long way and I couldn't be happier with it. Bluetooth, power back window, very roomy. Great for families with kids, the quad cab is too small so crew is the way to go. Trac control, sm radio, backup camera, hidden compartments.

Best truck ever for the money.
I love this truck. It has plenty of power and is fun to drive. It has a large display and the back up camera is awesome. It has sensors in the back and front to prevent you from hitting anything. The stereo is great and has satellite radio. It links up with my iPhone and also has voice recognition. I have been driving my truck for over a year now with no issues. I highly recommend this to anyone who is thinking about buying one.

Powerful truck with great interior features.
Good performance, powerful and quick. Great interior features. Large display screen connects easily to phone for navigation and hands free phone. Backup cam is great! Makes it very easy to back the large truck into narrow parking spaces and when parallel parking in the city. Parking assist comes in handy, although rear park assist can be a pain when on sloped driveways.

Great vehicle - will buy again.
The 2019 ram 1500 is a great truck. The big horn edition gives me the heated seats, heated steering wheel, and 20' wheels I really wanted. I also added the tow package which is great for pulling my camper and boat when vacationing. When it comes time to replace this truck I will do it with another big horn edition ram truck.

The large touch screen is appealing but once in operation is less than stellar.
The vehicle has been reliable with minor issues. The issues have primarily been related to the control panel and other electrical systems such as the cameras and radio controls. The back up camera regularly malfunctions as well as the climate control. Overall the vehicle has been reliable and without major issues.

The best ram pickup truck. A great eye appeal for all.
The space on the inside room to turn around in the driver seat. The speed and noise of muffler that get other drivers attention as you go by. The black color is also great and people looked whenever you drive by. The wide space behind driver and passenger seats. Allow you to move and sleep if you need to while traveling.

Smooth ride, stylish truck.
So far, 15000 miles in, haven’t had any issues with it. Love the style, comfort, and smooth ride. I have averaged about 17-18 miles per gallon on the highway, and about 15 miles per gallon around town. As far as the safety features are concerned, I feel extremely comfortable riding around with my family in my ram 1500.

Nice truck, prefer it with a hemi motor.
Very comfortable ride, extra clearance with 1 inch suspension lift is a plus. V6 has good power, but prefer the hemi for performance. Wish it came with better luxury packages though. Fuel mileage is solid when running stock size tires but the v6 does not like turning larger than factory size tires.

Great vehicle! A workhorse and also a fun family vehicle.
Great ride and soft driving. I love the dodge ram for its comfort inside. It also has a great look to it and is very distinct from other trucks. I would recommend this to others and I would also buy another one in a few years. This is a great vehicle. I have nothing negative to say about it and have been pleasantly surprised by its performance.

Great quality buy, and best bang for your buck! You will not regret it!
Great vehicle! If you are in the market for a truck be sure and ask about it! You will not regret it! Clean up is a breeze with the vinyl floor mats and you do not have to worry about any stains to carpet or seat because it is all vinyl. I'll never get a cloth/carpet interior vehicle again!!
accountCircle Ryan B on April 3, 2021
It is powerful, sporty, yet family friendly.
I love the truck because it has plenty of power, the ride is very smooth, gas mileage is really good considering it has a hemi, and the look is awesome. There is a lot of room in the crew cab for passengers, and a lot of storage space in the cab also.

2019 dodge ram laramie pickup truck.
I don't really have any problems other than the cab is a bit smaller than I would like. It is put together very nicely. If I had it to do over again I would buy the full crew cab version of the truck so that I wasn't so limited on space in the backseat and also a leather stitching is very nice.

My ram 1500 experience. Good and bad.
Great for 4 wheeling. Hate the remote key start. It is a safety issue with me. I like being able to walk up the vehicle and get in and drive off. With this key start you have dig through your purse to find the remote hit the button then get in and drive. I would be dead in a bad neighborhood.

Review of ram 1500! Best car yet.
I love it! It is so comfortable and has a great drive I have had it for over four years now and there’s never been a problem with it whatsoever. The best car choice I have made! It feels very smooth driving and it has a very nice interior the quality is absolutely amazing. The controls are great! Overall a really great car!

Best ram truck I have ever owned.
No problems, runs great, plenty of room, great on gas, wouldn't buy anything else. Wide doors so you have plenty of room to get in or out, or put something in the back doors. Love the sliding back glass. Lots of places to plug in a phone or other things.

Reliable vehicle that is durable and comfortable.
I have not had any problems with my vehicle so far. I enjoy how easy it is to adjust the seats and the lumbar in the seat for my back. I also enjoy that the seats are not completely leather since I live in South Texas and seats can get really hot, but there is enough leather to still make it look a bit more classy. It is very durable and runs very well.

2019 ram 1500 big horn crew cab.
This is a very reliable truck. Very comfortable and reliable. Have had no major issues with it. The performance is great. This truck is a smooth ride. I love the features like the back up camera, power windows and seats. The crew cab is very spacious and has plenty of room for any occupants.

The all new 2019 ram 1500, many improvements and tech integration.
Folding mirror broke, under warranty. In hot weather the screen restarts sometimes. Truck is quiet, gets good mileage and the setting is comfortable. Lots of room and cup holders. The hemi does great, plenty of power. The heated steering wheel and seats are great in the winter. The uconnect is pretty handy and easy to use.

Perfect car, perfect sound, one suggestion.
Car is perfect goes a perfect speed and is smooth and the sound system sounds great! There are no issues with this car. I do have a recommendation though, I think you should be able to play movies on the main screen of the car. Overall the car is perfect.

Ram base model 1500 classic.
Comfort is ok for basic model. Love that it has the backup camera. I was surprised with the features it does have for the base model, the radio is nice also. Do wish the rams came with different floor mats and wish all of them came with bed liners but overall I am satisfied.

Best 1/2 ton pickup truck there is.
It is pretty awesome. Has everything you need in a truck, plus more. Very smooth ride as well with lots of towing for a 1/2 ton truck. Plus, it looks really cool going up and down on airbags. It just needs a louder exhaust from the factory. That is the only complaint.

2019 dodge Laramie the good and bad.
Push button start had some issues that would not turn the truck off. We got that fixed and it has been good since. The brakes are squeaking on wet mornings which not something that your proud of your vehicle feature. The air conditioning seats are amazing it in the south in the hot summers. The heated steering wheel and heated seats is real nice feature in cold winter mornings. I like that the Laramie offers a fold down middle seat the front. Provides storage and a sixth rider option.
