2011 Lexus RX 350 Review: Good Year for the Expensive but Reliable Used SUV

Alex Showalter
Mar 11, 2022

The 2011 RX 350 lasts over 350,000 miles with only minor oil leaks and early brake wear reported. At $14,417 – 15,027, it’s worth the money and frankly, a bargain for the luxury.

Extremely high quality interior, a very quiet cabin and smooth suspension.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Not as sporty as other SUVs, there’s no third row available, and safety scores are lower than some rivals.

Is the 2011 Lexus RX 350 a Good Used SUV?

  • Yes, 2011 is a great year. We have received a lot of positive owner reviews mentioning a comfortable ride, luxurious interior, and long-lasting engines.
  • Reliability ratings are excellent with only minor engine oil complaints. Avoid 2009 and older models with more interior problems, we recommend a 2010 or newer.
  • A single powerful V6 is available.
  • Fuel economy is great at up to 21 MPG combined.

This car is an amazing investment!
My vehicle is a smooth drive. Comfortable interior with nice air conditioning. The sound system is great. I Haven't had to get any repairs in 6 years. The seats do tend to get beat up over time. The gas is a little expensive though. Besides that, the car is an amazing investment.

Great small SUV for family of 4
Great vehicle and very effortless to take care of. Love the backup camera feature being on the rear view mirror. The parking assist is very helpful. Four comfortable seats. The back middle seat is fine for occasional use, but uncomfortable for the average adult. Not useful for a child in a car seat or booster unless they're the only seat in the car. A smooth drive for the driver and back seat. A little rougher in the front passenger seat. Easy for adults to get in, but children will need help. Parks like a car, but roomier than a sedan. Lexus makes a great car, and this is one of their best selling models for a reason.

My vehicle is a smaller SUV type car. It is a perfect size for a new driver.
I love my car so much! The features on this luxury vehicle really make my life a luxury. The censors on it have saved me from hitting things many times before. The only issue I have with my censors is when it rains sometimes a raindrop will make a sensor go off when I am in reverse. Although my censors sometimes mess up everything else about the car is perfect.

The Lexus RX 450h Hybrid is an amazing luxury vehicle.
I love the Lexus RX 450h Hybrid. It is spacious and drives so smoothly. It gets great gas mileage and after 8 years, I've never had any major problems with the vehicle. It's a bit expensive, but you pay for what you get and this car really has everything you need and more. The interior is high quality and looks clean and luxurious. I highly recommend this car.

Lexus vehicle is excellent dependable quality with superior service.
It is a smooth riding car. The Lexus quality is excellent. Dealer service is also good. Nice waiting area, courteous service managers. Handles well in winter, all around good visibility. Cost of vehicle compared to Mercedes or BMW was reasonable given all the same features.

Small family car. Great for long distance trips and daily commutes.
Very reliable. Long distance long term care. The car isn't as comfortable as it was in the beginning. Very low maintenance since purchase in 2011. The interior is a bit dated now but extremely well functioning vehicle. This hybrid model also is very cost effective in mileage

The seats were not made to withstand the Texas heat and have cracked. I like the backup camera. Wish that it made a beeping noise when close to something or guided you on how to back out. TIMING COVER IS LEAKING
Good car overall, but this car can be very expensive to repair. I had a TIMING COVER IS LEAKING. It costs about $3550 to fix it. Maybe if you want a Lexus, you already know the baggage that comes with it.

What Do Critics Say About the RX 350?

  • Edmunds gives the RX a 4.5/5 noting a plush ride but without a third row found in rivals.
  • Kelley Blue Book experts rate the RX 3.9/5, finding it to be a luxurious crossover, but is not as quick and responsive as some competitors.

What Problems Does the 2011 Lexus RX 350 Have?

Problems with the RX 350 are rare but include minor oil leaks, suspension issues, and brakes.

Engine oil leaks are the most serious problem at around 45,000 miles. The main source of the problem are worn out gaskets, or loose bolts. Replacing gaskets costs about $300 depending on local labor rates.

A worn out CV axle is another issue showing up at nearly 70,000 miles. The issue is rare with only one report from owners, but can cost upwards of $1,000 to replace.

Worn out brakes is a complaint showing up at around 40,000 miles. Replacing the brake components costs $350 for pads, and up to $1,000 for a new set of rotors.

The only recall is for the brake actuator which results in increased stopping distances when the part wears out.

How Long Will the 2011 Lexus RX 350 Last?

The Lexus RX is one of the longest lasting midsize SUVs on the market, reaching over 350,000 miles. Regular annual maintenance costs are more affordable than other luxury SUVs at $476 per year, according to Repair Pal.

As an RX reaches over 150,000 miles, owners should prepare to replace fuel filters for $350, transfer case output shaft seals costing $250, and window regulators which cost $425.

accountCircle Angie M

Very reliable. My first rx was a 2004 and had 185,000 miles on it when I hit a deer. It was still running great with minimal maintenance. No problems with the current rx.

accountCircle Ify O

The only problem is that some mechanics will not service it because the engine is enclosed. I have had issues with the battery depleting, but that is the battery that did not come with the vehicle.

How Much Is the 2011 Lexus RX 350 Worth?

Blue book prices are $14,417 – 15,027 making the RX more expensive than rivals including the FX35 or MDX. When new, the price range was $39,075 to $40,475. Depreciation is good, only losing about 10% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the RX 350?

The RX 350 is available with either front wheel drive or all-wheel-drive and comes in only one model. Technology is very good with the last update in 2010, and the next refresh arrives for the 2013 model.

How Does the RX 350 Compare to the Competition?

One of the highest-rated luxury SUVs is the more expensive Porsche Cayenne. Where the Cayenne stands out is with much better performance, but the RX lasts longer. On the used market we recommend the RX since they are significantly more affordable to own.

Another popular rival is the more affordable Acura MDX. The MDX has three rows of seating and more up-to-date technology, but the RX is more comfortable. Overall, we recommend the RX since it will last longer.

Yes, absolutely. It never has any mechanical problems, has good gas mileage for an SUV, and offers a smooth, comfortable ride. Also, if I get an oil change regularly and do minimal maintenance the car will last up to 200,000 miles.

My Lexus is beautiful and very comfortable. I love driving it.
I love my Lexus. It is the best car I have ever had. I am thinking about getting a newer one. The only problem I ever had with it was when I was driving over a mountain and suddenly there was a small rock on the road. When I went over it, my car eventually shut off and I had to stop.

Lexus rx350 - over 10 years old and still going strong.
No complaints at all except that it is getting older and does not have all of the features that are available now. Still, has backup camera and proximity sensors, bt and a good sound system. Over 90k miles and no major problems. Comfortable and quiet ride. Would consider another when the time comes to replace it. Might opt for the hybrid version if I do get another rx.

My Lexus rx 350 is the most reliable, loyal vehicle I have ever owned.
I have owned several makes/models over the years and my Lexus rx 350 has been by far my most reliable, loyal vehicle thus far. It drives very smoothly even at over 106,000 miles it currently has. In the past 3 years I've owned it, I've had minimal repairs done. Brakes seem to last longer, there is an alert icon for any issues on dash including low air in tires, which is extremely helpful especially in the winter. Drives beautifully thru rain, snow, ice, all weather conditions. Accelerates and picks up speed very smoothly and fast. Heated and air conditioned front leather seats as well as temperature gage for driver and passenger side. All in all I love my Lexus and highly recommend it!

I do not have any problems with Lexus. We’ve been driving Lexus for years. All our previous vehicles were Lexus. Very reliable and comfortable to drive. Do not have any major problems at all. Even though the vehicle is almost 8 years old, it is still in very good condition. I like the MPG that I get while driving it. Also, I like how the car itself is still in amazing condition. Super reliable, it is a great car that you can trust will be working fine for a long time. Expensive to get items replaced but worth it. Gets good gas mileage being a hybrid. The car itself is very comfortable, with breathable leather seats and seat heaters and coolers. The air conditioning can blast or be soft and you can change the settings of where the air comes out. I absolutely love the stereo and it is easy to connect Bluetooth.

The Lexus rx 350 is a super reliable car with amazing performance. It reaches top speeds in a short amount of time even for a SUV. There are minimum problems. The only problem that I have had is the air conditioning sometimes does not work and the Bluetooth does not connect anymore. Otherwise, it is been 9 years and it has never broken down. It has comfortable leather seats. The stereo system is amazing, you are able to adjust the bass level which enhances your experiences so much better. Overall, I really recommend this vehicle.

A very reliable vehicle even after its nine years on the road. Very smooth, comfortable leather seats with heating and cooling in the front, and easy to drive. 2011 Lexus RX 450h dream machine
We’ve had this vehicle for just under a year and the only word I can think of to describe its overall rating is “SPECTACULAR”!!! Lexus has done a fantastic job at building this SUV right down to the gas mileage. The last 2 tanks have been averaging 8.2 litres per 100km and this one 7.7 litres per 100 km. Just amazing for such a heavy SUV. Confortable and very very low maintenance. Winter brings us a little harder on fuel but a respectable 9.5-10 litre per 100 km. Very satisfied!!!
