Mar 18, 2023

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee lasts around 200,000 miles with some stereo system and engine sensor issues reported. At $27,300 to $70,275, it’s expensive, but worth taking a look at if you want a luxurious SUV that’s also capable off-road.

Interior materials are very luxurious for its cost, the four-wheel drive system works great off-road and the V8 engine choices are very strong.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The suspension is firm for an SUV, the base V6 engine isn’t very quick and there’s less cargo space than the competition.

Is the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee a Good Used SUV?

  • Overall Rating 8/10 – 2020 is a good year for the Jeep Grand Cherokee since it offers a lot of upscale materials paired with improved reliability. Owner reviews praise the strong engines, responsive steering, along with the off-road capabilities.

Jeep grand Cherokee. Love it.
It is super comfortable. It has lots of features and lots of room. It looks very sleek. Much more affordable than my previous car(wrangler unlimited Sahara). Free Sirius XM radio. Decent gas mileage. Middle console could be designed a little better gets cluttered.

2020 jeep grand Cherokee limited.
I love my 2020 jeep grand Cherokee limited! The vehicle has a v6 engine. The leather seats are comfortable and the added features of heating and cooling driver and passenger seats is an extra bonus. There is also a heated steering wheel control. The car auto start/stop technology which helps to conserve gas. The drive is very smooth, more like a car than an SUV. The vehicle is equipped with an excellent navigation system, stereo system and Sirius/XM radio with a one year free membership. The back seats have plenty of legroom. The trunk is spacious and has a covering to pull over your items and you can also put the back seat down for extra storage space for any large items you may have. Overall I would highly recommend a jeep grand Cherokee.

Highlights of 2020 jeep latitude.
Good all around vehicle that checks all the boxes. Very stylish trim and color. Spacious inside with in-depth uconnect system for nav, music, phone use. Easy to drive for a vehicle it is size. Sits high for good visibility. Good acceleration with sport mode capability. Would recommend to anyone looking for a vehicle that provides the practicality of an SUV, with the style of a sports car.

Great vehicle! Stunning looks and extra comfort.
Very comfortable, stylish and stands out in a crowd! Very reliable as well. The tech features make the ride more enjoyable and the leather seats are great for easy cleaning. Gas mileage would be my only complaint but with the size and comfort it is easy to overlook.

The coolest new mom-mobile in Its class.
This vehicle has more features than I have ever had or know how to use so far. My favorite new features are the auto climate controls (heated steering wheel and seats) and the automatic trunk. It spacious and comfortable. It handles extremely well in all types of weather. The sound system is excellent. I have not encountered any problems, so far. Overall, the performance of this vehicle is excellent.

Great suv with a ton of pickup.
The car is very reliable. It has a ton of pickup. The trim on the inside is luxury. The only downside is no led lights. It also has no boss system which I have in my other vehicle. You can tell the difference. Other then that I love everything about the car.

Everything you want in a car and more.
Love the features it has to help see the cars in the front and in the back when parking the car and just in case it also has a feature in which the car breaks by itself to prevent crashes from happening. The car has apple play music so that no other phone holders are needed. The seats are soft and the ability of the car to tell what terrain it is going through is amazing since no other car.

The best jeep review you will ever see!
The jeep grand Cherokee is a very reliable car and not too bad on gas. If you manage to buy one you will experience a smooth ride and a safe one as well. It is very spacious and would be good for kids as well. Overall on the car scales of being a good quality high performance SUV rating scale I give it a solid 9 out of 10.

Not the vehicle for me would choose something else if given chance.
It has a very slow pick up for getting on highway. Put pedal to the floor and it takes so long to get up to merging speed. Also you have to connect Bluetooth phone every time you get in car. No matter what it will be on radio then you need to go to media then connect the Bluetooth then phone. It is annoying when you have to do it every time.

I bought one of the 2020 Grand Cherokee High Altitude to Replace a 2014 GC Limited because I wanted the newest Safety Features. After driving the vehicle for about 1.5 years and 16K miles, I believe I wasted my money on this one. The lane departure is extremely unreliable even after being re-calibrated twice by the dealership. It will hold lane position about 70 percent of time, then it will just wonder off and over the lines. Even when it is shows good lane knowledge. If you want a lane departure system that is reliable don't buy a Jeep.

Electrical system issues
Purchased a limited x 2020 as an upgrade from my previous Cherokee Trailhawk based on size. From day one I have had nothing but issues with my head unit (radio). Finally after a roadside pickup Jeep agreed the unit had issues. I have now been almost two months with the unit disabled waiting for a part to arrive which we still dont have an ETA on. I would stay away from any Jeep product at this point.

Great vehicle for families with less than 3 children.
Great family vehicle. Very spacious and nice. Only good for families with 3 or less kids. It is fast and good for long travel. Leather seats are nice and heat and air condition good for hot Alabama summers. Back seat is not huge but fits car seats and the trunk is big enough for strollers and groceries.

What Do Critics Say About the Jeep Grand Cherokee?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a versatile and well-rounded SUV with good owner satisfaction scores as it ages.
  • Edmunds rates the Grand Cherokee at 4.5/5, praising the off-road capabilities for its size, but doesn’t like the firm suspension.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the 2020 Grand Cherokee a 4.3/5, enjoying the luxurious interior for the money, but owner’s don’t like the poor fuel economy.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Have?

Common problems found on the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee include the stereo system freezing, a check engine light, along with trouble shifting out of park into drive. Overall, some of these problems are worse than other midsize SUVs, since they can lead to more expensive repair bills as it ages.

The stereo system freezing is the most widespread complaint on the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, showing up in the first 1,000 miles. There are software updates available for the stereo system which improve its reliability. Most dealerships will install this software for free, while some charge around $50.

A check engine light is another complaint from 2020 Grand Cherokee owners in the first 5,000 miles. Usually, the problem is simply caused by a loose connection at a sensor, although there are many reasons a check engine light may turn on. The only way to figure out the source of the problem is by using an OBD-II scan tool.

Trouble shifting out of park are a rare, yet serious, complaint on the 2020 Grand Cherokee in the first 5,000 miles. Usually the problem is caused by damage inside the transmission. Usually the transmission is replaced under warranty, although if transmission problems show up outside the warranty period then they are roughly $4,000 to change.

There are two recalls on the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is similar to other midsize SUVs. The first recall covers the high pressure fuel pump which is known to fail, and Jeep will replace it on affected models for free. The second recall covers the rearview camera image getting stuck on the screen. This is fixed via a software update, which Jeep will also do for free.

How Long Will the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Last?

A well-maintained 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee can last around 200,000 miles, which is over 100,000 miles less than the ultra-long-lasting Toyota 4Runner. Regular annual maintenance costs are slightly higher than some competitors, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $605 per year.

As a used 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the air bag clock spring for $780, the steering gearbox costing $870, along with the wheel hubs which cost $450

accountCircle Rosanne M

We haven't had any issues with reliability but the jeep is less than a month old so I would think it would be very reliable.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is very good in the 2020 Grand Cherokee with a standard 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Optional upgrades include a larger 8.4-inch touchscreen, along with more powerful stereo options.

Standard safety features are average for a midsize SUV, offering:

  • Backup camera
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Cross-traffic alert

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Parallel park assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Forward automatic emergency braking
  • Lane departure warning
  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • Forward collision warning
  • Lane keep assist

Is the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee a Good Value?

Yes, the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a good value since it’s a reasonably reliable midsize SUV with improved reliability from earlier years. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $27,300 to $70,275, making it more than a Honda Pilot or Kia Telluride. When new, the price range was $32,150 to $87,400. 2015: More powerful engine in SRT model, improved interior in Summit model.

2016: Stop-start added to the 3.6L V6, electronic power steering is standard on all models aside from the SRT.

2017: Trailhawk model introduced, more safety technology features available.

2018: High-performance Trackhawk model added to the lineup, standard 7-inch touchscreen on all models.

How Does the Jeep Grand Cherokee Compare to the Competition?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a very nice midsize SUV, although you do trade in some of the long-term reliability for a more luxurious interior than the competition.

The Ford Explorer is a slightly larger SUV which costs around $2,500 less. Passenger room is better in the Ford Explorer, while the Jeep Grand Cherokee has a more upscale interior for the money. We recommend the Jeep Grand Cherokee, although both are decent SUVs, for the 2020 model year, making it worth a test drive to see which you prefer.

The Toyota Highlander is another midsize SUV which costs about $2,000 more. Standard safety technology is more advanced in the Toyota Highlander, while the Jeep Grand Cherokee has a higher-quality interior. We recommend the Toyota Highlander since it lasts longer with lower long-term ownership costs.

Sporty but luxurious. Basically an affordable range rover.
I went from a jeep wrangler to the grand Cherokee north edition. This edition comes with all of the off road capabilities like a jeep wrangler but is a much more luxurious truck. I purchased it 7 months ago brand new. Rides smoothly, no problems so far, gas mileage is probably only 19 mph on average, though, so be prepared to spend more on gas. I have not experience any issues with my jeep grand Cherokee 2020 limited x, since I got it in November 2019. My favorite features of the car is the lane assist, front and back sensors that will break for you, and the uconnect ability, which easily pairs to my phone. The space within the car is a plus as well, especially if you have children or pets to bring along for the ride. All around, my favorite car that I have ever owned, and I plan to be a grand Cherokee owner for many years to come.

You have all the convenience you need in a vehicle with a push of a button.
This is the nicest vehicle I have purchased. It is very comfortable and has lots of features. I love the heated seats and steering wheel for those cold winter days. The automatic starter is very nice also. I thinks the automatic open and close door for the back is extremely convenient. Being able to lower or raise the vehicle in order to hook up the horse trailer definitely saves me lots of time and effort.

User experience of the jeep grand Cherokee.
The car handles really well, and the acceleration and braking is very responsive. The fuel efficiency is not outstanding, but it is not awful either, and there’s a setting that automatically turns the engine off when the car stops for a certain amount of time which helps save on gas. The interior is quite large, and the seats are both comfortable and fully adjustable. The console is easy to navigate and super useful, and it is overall functionality is miles ahead of its contemporaries.

One of the best cars to drive on the market.
It is a very good car at the price and the features you get with it are very competitive with the other modern cars. Very comfortable to drive. Drove for 6 hours continuously and took no breaks had no problems. Though I had some flat tires had no problems replacing it with the spare tire didn't have to go under the car to remove the tire just removed it from the boot and got to work saved me time and effort. Overall out of all the cars I have driven one of the best in class.

Great family vehicle. Great day to day vehicle.
I do not have any problem with my vehicle. I keep up with oil changes and just general care for my vehicle. I do with it had a better a/c in the back for the passengers but that's about it. The comfort of the ride is good, the shocks and suspension is good.

Best vehicle on the market.
I live the way I have different modes or levels for various terrain. Plus I like the look of the trim and wheels. My jeep will park itself, either parallel or perpendicular and it parks the vehicle better than any human being. The sensors make me feel safer.

2020 jeep Laredo seats 5. 4 wheel drive. Hitch.
We have had no issues with our jeep. The jeep is very comfortable and accommodating with having 2 boys and a husband over 5’9”. There is plenty of space for them to stretch out. We have the option to haul stuff now that we have a hitch available to us.

Great suv with a ton of pickup.
The car is very reliable. It has a ton of pickup. The trim on the inside is luxury. The only downside is no led lights. It also has no boss system which I have in my other vehicle. You can tell the difference. Other then that I love everything about the car.

Grand Cherokee was the best choice.
I absolutely love my grand Cherokee. I enjoy my commute to work every morning now because of this car. Automatic starter, heated seats and wheel, sun roof, etc. It has all the bells and whistles. This car rides so smooth and is actually quite fast. The pickup is great.

2020 jeep grand Cherokee limited.
The grand Cherokee has a great ride and is very comfortable. The technology works intuitively once you get through it a couple times and I love having 4-wheel drive in winters. The storage area is large enough and accessible by an automatic hatch lift, which is nice. The uconnect service is also very convenient.

This car is perfect for someone on the go!
This car is perfect. The ride is excellent and it has all the features for four wheel drive. It has a rock and sand feature. The lane assist is one of my favorites. I have had no issues with it mechanically. It was all leather which is easy to wipe and keep clean. All the extras of the car are very easy to use without having to break out the big car book. It has the upgraded rims which are very nice looking and set the car apart. It is a smooth drive and switches modes depending on the driving you are doing. It gets very good gas mileage for an SUV especially if you plan on doing a lot of highway driving. The front and back sensors are very reliable as well.

All black grand Cherokee altitude.
This is my fourth car and by far my favorite. I live in New England so I have always wanted an SUV. I had a jeep compass before this and I really liked it but felt it wasn't big enough or powerful enough. I also really wanted the black trim that was offered in the grand Cherokee altitude package.
