Favorite vehicle I have ever owned.
I have not had any problems after buying this car so far. The gas mileage is amazing. To fill my tank it is only about $20 and it lasts me about two weeks. The seats are very comfortable. I delivery drive often and do not have any discomfort. This is my favorite vehicle I have ever owned.

My vehicle can turn on, lock, and heat up just by clicking a button on an app.
One thing I really like about this car is how it can turn on and also lock from an app I downloaded on my phone. The one thing I dislike is that sometimes the side sensors on the car do not work. Other than that minor issue, the car is very reliable and safe and gets very good gas mileage.

The best car I have ever had. Super sleek look and drives smoothly and safely.
I love my car, it is great on gas, drives very smoothly. It is very reliable and safe for kids and family. I believe that it is very spacious and has a lot of room. The look of the car is very classy and sleek. I definitely recommend this car to others who are thinking about getting it.

Fast car, less gas to pay for and long lasting.
No problems, I love the car and it is cheap on gas. The warranty does not cover enough and the insurance can be expensive while the driving experience is amazing. I hope that people who drives the same car have as good of an experience as I have had.

How the Hyundai Elantra value edition drives.
My vehicle has an amazing gas mileage and basically drives itself I am in love with the interior and how easy it is to clean on a daily basis! With its three drive modes getting to and from places is a breeze from getting up and getting through to that exit to a casual cruise control it is a beautiful all around vehicle.

The lane assist is great has caught me from drifting a couple of times.
Love the lane assist and the blind spot detector. Really has helped me in close calls. Gas mileage is great I can get at least 30 mpg on the highway and about 20- 25 on the city streets. Back seat is very comfortable and roomy. Trunk has a lot of space. I able to have a organizer and still fit a huge load of groceries.

Car with 3 speeds. 1 neutral, second saves gas and third has kick for power.
My car is amazing. It does not waste that much gas. It has amazing acceleration when needed. It is rides smooth. The speakers sound clear when I play music loud. It tells you how many miles needed before your next oil change. If you drive a long time without stopping it blinks a little sign that says "Coffee break" On dashboard. It also has a button you can push that alerts you where you are swerving to a different lane. The seats are very comfortable. There is a lot of space on the back seats for passengers to have room. The trunk is very roomy as well. The breaks on this car are amazing. The inside style of the car is beautiful and car looks very sporty from outside. When you drive and do not notice the car in front of you is breaking and you get too close, the car beeps and you can feel it breaking a little to catch your attention. I love the light in the dashboard, not your normal white. They are actually blue. The trunk has a net where you can store all the car cleaning supplies. The car is really reliable and super comfortable. I have had my car for 8 months with no problems and totally in love with it!

Would give 0 stars if I could
When I first purchased this car I was ecstatic. The price was great, the car itself was sleek, had great features & was comfortable. 2 months after purchasing the vehicle, I was driving on the freeway when I could no longer accelerate the vehicle and it started to smell like it was on fire. Luckily I was ~3 miles from home and got it home driving 5 mph the whole way there. Got it to the dealership, where they told me they’d have a look at it. Left it at the dealership for about 3 weeks. The car needed a new transmission, and no one could tell me why. Upon picking up the vehicle, I noticed the status light on the push to start button was no longer working- walked back into the dealership where they told me they didn’t know anything about that and I could call them to set up another appointment. Very rude treatment by the service department, but I was determined to just let it go- as it was not a huge deal. Fast forward to driving the vehicle on the freeway again- the forward collision sensors will randomly error out on the dash, and when the lane assist feature is on the vehicle violently shakes when it hits a certain speed. At this point, I open a case with Hyundai corporate because I find the car generally unsafe to drive, and the dealership has no interest in remedying any problems. My case has been open with Hyundai for going on a month- and their customer service is awful (that’s a review for another time). I go to drive the vehicle today, and it won’t unlock with the keyless entry or key fab. I get into the car using my manual key, and it won’t start. Great, I figure the battery is somehow dead? Although that shouldn’t be an issue with a brand new car. The tow truck driver comes to try to jump the car- which he is unsuccessful in doing because the problem is not with the battery. He towed it to the dealership, and now I wait to see what the issue is. I have had more difficulties with this car than any car I have ever owned. Paid for a brand new car and now I’m left with no car. Would not recommend a Hyundai to anyone. All of these issues within 5 months of owning the vehicle.

Unsafe headlights
Just bought 2020 Elantra last week. Drove it for the first time at night. Had to drive 45 miles an hour on the highway, scared to death. The headlights only illuminate about 20 feet ahead and there's a pitch black area about 2 ft above the road. It does not light up road signs because either because the light is so close to the ground. Impossible, UNSAFE and scary to drive at night

Sold a lemon
Purchased this vehicle 7 months ago and the trunk randomly would pop up from time to time and I didn't think too much about it at first until I noticed it looked a little bit elevated in the one corner. I didn't think too much of it and figured I would just mention it at my next service for oil. And then 6 months into owning the car the reverse lights failed. Took the car in to investigate this and I mentioned the trunk issue as well and when they looked at the car they said it was obvious that it had had rear end damage previously and was not fixed properly and they could tell that the bumper was replaced and a s***** paint job on the back and something dripping off of it as well as the wiring for the lights wasn't done correctly and the connector wasn't connected. So in other words the car was in an accident before they sold it to us and it was only a year old at the time and they never told us this. Now this is costing us roughly $800 and this is only to get the reverse lights working because they had to take the back end apart to find the problem. I'm pissed at the fact that Burlington Hyundai admitted that this has previous damage and when I call Cookeville Hyundai to complain they basically said nothing we can do but look at it and I told them the other Hyundai was already looking at it but they didn't care and just basically said so sorry.

Bad Transmission
Transmission stopped working at 3500 miles on new Elantra and needed to be replaced. It took over two weeks and was covered by warranty. Now at 6500 miles, I can feel it starting again (RPMs jumping, car accelerating, revving/jumping/shuttering, or not accelerating when I press the gas pedal) and was "offered" to have it diagnosed at my cost and would need to find my own rental or pay them for it. Now I wait for the transmission to fail again while I'm driving since I refuse to pay $200+ for a problem that was just fixed three months ago on an essentially brand new car. Then I will be contacting a lemon law attorney since I can't afford to rent a car every three months for 2+ weeks even if the rest is covered under warranty.

My Hyundai Elantra is trash.
My Hyundai Elantra is trash. When I put it in sports mode the motor mounts get to kicking like a bronco. It's a very safe and nice family car however I am 19 and want something fast and got stuck with this. Its super reliable, not too comfortable, but it had apple carplay so that's a plus.

Transmission is trash
Bought it new October of 2019 and had the transmission replaced around 6,000 miles. Not even 12,000 miles on it and my cars check engine light comes on despite routine maintenance on schedule. Apparently before checking it, I’m told these cars have issues with the coils or some bullshit. Save your money and go buy any other car from any other company and I guarantee it will be way better.

Beware Family Hyundai
Do not bother buying this vehicle, especially from Family Hyundai in Orland Park, IL. They try to jack up your bill every time you go in for service. My front bumper grill is all chipped and pock marked and they said it is not due to a defect but rocks from the road while I am driving. So am I not supposed to drive my car on the road? Also, why would they put a cheap piece of garbage on the front end of the car when it is so easily damaged. This happened when my car was only 6 mos. Old!!!!! It now looks like c**p. I will NEVER buy another car there, buyer beware, Hyundai claims to have the best warranty, but they cover nothing of value. I am sorry I ever bought this car.

What Do Critics Say About the Hyundai Elantra?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Hyundai Elantra offers great roominess and fuel economy with average owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Elantra at 4.1/5, praising the comfortable suspension, but doesn’t like the clunky seven-speed transmission.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Elantra a 4.1/5, enjoying the pleasing design for the money, but owners don’t like the lack of all-wheel drive.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Hyundai Elantra Have?

Common problems found on the 2020 Hyundai Elantra include the soy-based wiring attracting rodents, cruise control failing to engage properly, along with some issues changing gears. Overall, these problems are similar to some other compact cars, leading to average repair costs as the Elantra ages.

Soy-based wiring throughout the engine attracting rodents is the most widespread complaint from 2020 Elantra owners in the first 5,000 miles. If you have to park outside, the wires will eventually attract some sort of pest due to the smell. The best way to solve the problem is by installing a strobe light and ultrasonic device under the hood to deter rats and other pests from eating the wires, costing around $30.

Cruise control failing to engage properly is another issue reported by Elantra owners within the first 1,000 miles. There are software updates available for the cruise control software which improves its reliability. Most dealerships will install this software for free, while others charge around $50.

There are also some rare issues reported with the Elantra failing to change gears at around 2,500 miles. The problem shows up on models with the continuously variable transmission. Unfortunately, the only way to fix the issue is by replacing the transmission. When it happens with low mileage it will be covered under warranty, although out of warranty it can be over $3,000 to replace.

There are three recalls on the 2020 Hyundai Elantra, which is similar to other compact cars from the same year. The most serious recall is for a loose lower control arm ball joint which can detach. Hyundai will replace the ball joint on affected models for free. Other recalls cover the piston oil rings, and lug nuts. Hyundai will replace associated parts on those models for free as well.

How Long Will the 2020 Hyundai Elantra Last?

A well-maintained 2020 Hyundai Elantra can last around 200,000 miles, which is around 100,000 miles less than the long-lasting Toyota Corolla. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other compact cars, according to data from Repair Pal at $370 per year.

As a used 2020 Hyundai Elantra reaches 100,000 miles owners should be prepared to replace the A/C compressor for $900, EGR valve costing $500, along with the alternator voltage regulator which costs $350.

accountCircle Susan R

Optional available driver assistance features include:

  • Pedestrian detection
  • Adaptive cruise control

Yes, the 2020 Hyundai Elantra is a good value since it’s cheaper than many other compact cars while offering a nice interior. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $17,600 to $21,000, which makes it less than a Mazda3 or Honda Civic. When new, the price range was $19,300 to $24,600. Depreciation is similar to other compact cars, losing about 10% of its current value per year.

Additionally, the Elantra has a well-insulated cabin that helps reduce road and wind noise, making for a quiet and relaxing ride. The suspension is also well-tuned, providing a smooth and comfortable ride even on bumpy roads. Overall, the 2020 Hyundai Elantra is a comfortable and well-designed compact sedan that provides a pleasant and relaxing ride for both drivers and passengers.

How Much Storage Space Does the Hyundai Elantra Have?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra has 14.4 cubic feet of trunk space, which is a bit smaller compared to some other compact sedans. However, it still provides enough space for several large pieces of luggage, several smaller bags, or several sets of golf clubs. What Are the Differences Between Years?

The sixth generation of the Hyundai Elantra was launched in 2017, and will be replaced by the seventh generation for the 2021 model year.

2015: No major changes from earlier years.

2016: Value Edition model added to the lineup.

2017: Fully redesigned for the sixth generation with new interior, exterior, and engine choices.

2018: SEL model replaces the SE with Popular Equipment Package.

2019: Small exterior styling changes, more standard technology on all models.

2020: New upgraded automatic transmission, standard dual-zone climate control, more safety features.

2021: Redesigned for the seventh generation with new technology, styling, and engines.

How Does the Hyundai Elantra Compare to the Competition?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra is a decent compact car since it offers more luxury than most of the competitors in the same price range, paired with the longest warranty in the industry at 10 years/100,000 miles.

The Toyota Corolla is another compact car available which costs around $4,000 more. Ownership costs are lower on the Toyota Corolla as it ages, while the Hyundai Elantra has a better interior for the money. We recommend the Toyota Corolla since the reliability ratings make it a better choice for the long-term.

The Honda Civic is a competitor which can be found for roughly $3,000 more. Where the Honda Civic stands out is with a sportier driving experience, while the Hyundai Elantra offers more upscale cabin materials. We recommend the Honda Civic since they have better long term reliability.

The only things we do not like about our car is the cup holders do not have rubber arms that hold your red bull can in place so when you turn the can tips over and spills. The only other thing we do not like is there is no back windshield wiper. Other than that we have no other complaints about our Elantra.

It is a basic car. It drives well, gets good mileage on gas. The standard is very basic, has no bells and whistles. The standard does come with a small back up screen. Since I have had my car I have had no major issues. The comfort is basic it is honestly a regular car, it serves its purpose. It does sit low to the ground.

Good car to buy for new drivers.
My vehicles performance is amazing. When it comes to gas it takes about 25-30 dollars to fill up my tank with gas averaging out at 2$ a gallon. My only thing that I hate is that the tires are entirely sensitive. I usually have to get my tires re sealed at least twice a year just because a bump made them de flame. There was no hole but it still deflated.

My Elantra experience from someone who hates to drive, who now loves to drive.
Love way you can choose what drive mode you can drive on. And it has great gas mileage. It is easy to drive and it is got a great roomy back seat for how small it looks. For me being very short, I can see out of it just fine, but taller people have a hard time getting in and out of the car. I like all the new safety features on it and how you can choose to turn them off if needed. It is def a upgrade from my 2017.

This car is just what I wanted. The perfect color, look, speed, and performance.
This car is a pacious, has the get-up-and-go my last car severely lacked, it is sporty looking, has all the extras that I wanted (sunroof, rubber floor mats, upgraded sound, and it gets great gas mileage. I have taken it on several road trips and it is comfortable and able to carry quite a bit of luggage etc. The ride is comfy and I feel confident and safe driving this car.

Good buy for the money, would buy again.
Just got it. Drives great, handles well, worth the money but a little small inside. Gas mileage not as advertised though it is still new. A bit slow getting on the highway but maintains speed well. No problems as of yet. Air conditioner not very cold, heat works really well.

Hyundai Elantra quality at cost.
This is the second Elantra I leased and have been completely satisfied with both, the car has a lot of features for the price I paid, I would definitely get another one, great gas mileage and quality radio with Bluetooth and blue link large trunk and a good amount of leg and head room.
accountCircle Hannah R on April 21, 2021
It doesn't have an automatic headlights option.
Everything is updated and standard. The ride is smooth. No issues with accelerating or back pedaling. Backup camera and lane assistance is a definite perk. The only thing is the seats in the back are bucket seats. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone that is seeking out a new car.

Great vehicle for the price!
The Hyundai Elantra is very convenient and has no problems. The vehicle is too small for me and low to the ground. Overall the performance, reliability, and features for this compact model are excellent. I am comfortable driving but getting in and out of the car is a challenge sometimes.

I have gotten over 500 miles to a tank!
The car ride is smooth. The customer service is great. It is comfortable for long car rides. Great on gas. The automatic brake sensors have saved me from some collisions! Fast, friendly, and reliable. All in all it is a great vehicle for all kinds of people.

Great running great driving great mileage.
No problem with reliability. It is my 3rd hyundai elantra in a row. I love them! I have put over 100,000 miles on the first two. Expect the same on this one. Never any problems never leave you stranded. Great gas mileage. Performance much improved in 2020 model.

Best features on Hyundai Elantra.
Super nice, great media features, remote start, smart features, lane keep assist good heat and air conditioning, sunroof and moonroof are very nice, has smart trunk. Also car has sport mode so you can go super fast. Car is also pretty good in snow, it will also brake for you if you are going to run into someone.

Love the blind spot detector. The car is very easy to drive.
Great commuter car. Is perfect for our family. Easy to drive and looks nice. Has lots of available features for an affordable price. Is a smaller car but still large enough for my family of 4. The dealer was easy to work with. Lots of available trims available to suit your specific needs.

Apple CarPlay and great gas mileage, my Elantra has everything love!
Car has beautiful exterior look, trim is sleek and attractive. Interior has a semi luxurious feel. No part feels cheap or poorly put together. Car stereo system has apple and android CarPlay that I couldn't rave about more. I use it every time I get in my car. I used to have a 2016 Nissan xterra that I spent a lot of money on gas and repairs so this car was a breath of fresh air. To fill my tank I spend about twenty-two dollars and that gets me a little over four-hundred miles. I couldn't rave about this car more. It is a smaller sedan but it is not noticeable at all or gives me any issues. I love it!

Would like to have a few things that are not available on the base model.
No problems. Would like satellite radio and apple car play. It is a nice vehicle other than that. Very reliable and great on gas. I drive the car every day and it has not let me down yet. Basic simple car. Inside is roomy, fits my family of 4 easily with no issues and the kids love it.

2020 Hyundai Elantra is new and a good size car for first time vehicle owners.
I really enjoy the space the vehicle has. While it does not seem like much for a small size sedan. It can be very spacious. For example, my friend and I had done a trip a few months ago and her dog is a pitbull and he fit perfectly in the back seat, he had space to lay down and get comfortable. I enjoy also the performance, as well as the lane assist features on the car. I believe those are the selling points.

Enjoying my Hyundai Elantra.
Perfect size for daily travel. Gas efficient, I enjoy the blind spot detector and for the price the interior is very nice. I also love the color of my car. It is very comfortable to drive. It has been reliable and I have had no problems with the car. I do wish the interior trim was more durable since it scratches easily.
accountCircle omar M on March 24, 2021
The best option within the car are the features which are really modern.
Currently car size is pretty small. Also if you are looking for more trunk space you will need a different model. Besides the size the care runs really good and is good on gas but seats are small. Also the car bumper is exposed which causes other cars to leave scratches.

Hyundai sonata: a smooth ride.
I bought my Hyundai sonata recently and I really love it. Even thought I had to get used to the push-button ignition, there are so many great features, including free Sirius/XM radio for three months and just a really smooth drive. I also like the easy-to-use controls, which are really intuitive.
accountCircle Eliza P on March 22, 2021
It is sporty, with up to date features, but always I buy for the safety features.
This car is very fun and loaded with extras. The sound system is great. I feel it is sized well for women drivers as it does not have much head room or wider seats. It loves to go fast, and gets better gas mileage when it gets to speed up. It has a bit of a noisy interior, but I am always sold on Hyundai's safety features. Great little car.

I invested in a Hyundai and you should too!
A very comfortable and reliable car. I drive my Elantra every day and it is probably one of the best investments I have ever made. I always feel safe when I am driving and it has any feature I could ever need. In 10 months I have put 20,000 miles on it and have experienced no problems. At the price I paid for it, the Elantra is a great car for both experienced drivers and a new driver looking for a comfy and affordable quality vehicle.

2020 Elantra se compared to 2019.
It is an amazing car but these does not offer many selections that the 2019 editions did. My friend has a 2019 Elantra which is nicer features and can connect the screen to the phone which the 2020 does not have. The car itself is comfortable and has no problems just has none of the features that made Hyundai stick out in the first place.

Great car for affordable price.
Great safety features such as reverse camera, notification of anyone passing by when in reverse, and blind spot lights. The audio of the car is amazing and very comfortable. So far is not a great gas saver as I thought but still is not bad at all. The car is so smooth and fast responsive to drive to get into highways.

My car is very fun to drive it is sporty but comfortable and the sound system in it is really good. This car makes good for fast and safe driving. Is very roomy and can fit a lot of people or items inside of the car and outside. I love driving it every single day that I can.

Having my car in tiptop running shape and safe
I got my 2020 Hyundai ELANTRA on December 27, 2019 and now my highbeams don’t work the switch light works the light on the dashboard goes on but my high beams don’t work. And I did get a email and a letter about a recall so since you’re going to cover the recall will they give me a car to drive without me having to pay for the rental car and do I have to pay to get the light fixed for the highbeams fixed. It is anybody else having problems with their air tires or the air in their tires might keep fluctuating where the little light on my dashboard comes on I put air in them and it finally goes off next thing I know the lights back on again and there is no hole in the tire. Right now it’s down to 22 pound that I just put air in it yesterday

2020 Hyundai Elantra features and appreciation.
2020 Hyundai is so great that they have included features of lane departure, collision alert, and closeness of vehicles to your vehicle. I love the bigger screen nav. The features can be annoying at first but you can get used to them and care for a lot. This is my ideal vehicle.

The 2020 Elantra’s headlights s**k. Can’t hardly see anything. I changed over to led and that didn’t help

Good on gas, and good on speed.
The car does not have too many problems but I will say is if you are in a rush and trying to speed through cars the Elantra has a system to mash the breaks for which defeats the purpose. It is not push to start which sucks because it is a 2020. It does have cruise control and good radio system. It is ok on gas but I have seen better.

Fuel efficient Hyundai w/ dual temp controls, heated cloth seats & blue link.
The Elantra is very fuel efficient, rides comfortable. The cloth seats are heated and has dual temperature controls. I have not had any maintenance issues to date any Hyundai has a great warranty and free maintenance. Additionally the car comes with blue link which allows you to remote start your vehicle and have the ac/heat on.

Solid, dependable Elantra.
It is hard to say a whole lot with a car that is only a month old, but the car handles great, the features are basic but good, and everything is well thought-out. Having previously owned a 2010 model of the same car, I can say that Elantras are really dependable.
