The 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 is a luxurious full-size truck ranging used from $23,492 to $38,991. The Sierra 1500 series offers excellent technology, but is not as reliable as some of its competitors.

likeFilled The Good
The 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 has excellent towing capabilities and can pull up to 12,000 pounds. The interior is much more luxurious than you will find in other trucks. The V8 engines are very powerful in the class.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Reliability is an issue with the Sierra and fuel system problems persist. It is more expensive than the competition.
checkCircleAlternativeBold The Bottom Line
Lacking popularity, the Sierra 1500 is one of the most luxurious in its class. That luxury comes with a price and the competition has options at a lower cost.

2015 GMC Sierra 1500: Quick Overview

  • The 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 is below average in reliability. You can find one used from $23,492 to $38,991. The Denali model offers the most luxury and features.
  • There are three engine options available for the 2015 Sierra 1500 series. The V6 has the best fuel economy, and the 6.2L V8 offers the most power.
  • Fuel efficiency is good with the V6 engine in the 2015 GMC Sierra 1500, but it drops off with the larger motors. Owners report that the cabin feels luxurious and spacious.
  • For 2015, there were four different models for the Sierra 1500 series. It got a five-star crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The magnetic ride control on the Denali model was a new feature as well.
  • The 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 series is a good full-size truck, but it focuses on luxury rather than utility. The issues with high mileage reliability and expensive purchase prices make this a truck that does not sell as well as its competition.

Fantastic truck. Best we've ever owned.
Runs great. Lots of good perks. I love the electric seats. They are adjustable in several directions and also have heat or cold settings to increase comfort. Great on my bad back. We have had no significant problems with it. Does not have a real smooth ride. It is a little bouncy and bumpy on the open road.

Very reliable, i use the car for towing boats and it never fails me.
The load capacity. The tow capacity. How roomy it is in the back The bad has lots of cargo area.

It's both a work and family vehicle.
I have a crew cab, partly because it is used as a family vehicle. I like the features, and the smooth ride. I don't like the payment though!

I recently bought a 2015 Sierra SLE.... My 1st truck and I will always be with GMC.The safety features on this truck are incredible 5 ? Rating from me. The Sierra drives so smooth and quite you would think you're floating. Love It recommend it to ANY & EVERYONE.GREAT ON MILES TOO!!!

I love I can ride drive in la traffic or off-roading in the sierra mountains.
Problems with my GMC sierra, there are none. I love it and would recommend, ten out of ten. It drives well on the road besides it shocks being kind of crappy. It is very dependable when it comes to safety and getting me where I am supposed to go. My family bought a two door instead of a four door which made me love it even more. It was comfortable, lots of legroom, high off the ground, and nice plush seating. The dash board topped it off with its back up camera, Bluetooth connection, and Audio surround sound.

GMC sierra 1500 Denali 2015.
The floorboards are very sensitive and tear extremely easily. Very easy to add the weather board covers that fit perfect and do not budge at all. I have owned for a month and had minor issues with brakes squeaking extremely loud but cleaned them and haven't had an issue since.

I have owned this truck for 5 years since 11k miles, it currently has 98k miles. I have replaced the air conditioner condenser, lifters, and now a whole new rack and pinion system! I have always taken it to a gmc dealer for all normal maintenance and oil changes. Very disappointed in this truck!!

Never buy another GMC truck again!
GM failed to honor warranty! Beware and do your research! Lots of transmission problems from learching , slamming in and out of gear and loud clunking in driveline. GM made all the excuses they could and told me it's normal. Dealers have told me this is happening in trucks from 2015 to 2019! Dontbtrusr GM they will lie and avoid taking care of the issue! Also interior pieces falling apart. Strut failure at 50,000 miles and had to battle to get warranty coverage. Stay away and do your research!

Engine failure on 5.3.
No. I purchased a new 2015 Sierra 1500 double cab. It leaked oil from the start. Took 6 trips to dealer Walt Massy to fix it. Had to do without truck for days while they worked on it. 50 mile round trip every time over 4 months. ? Recently after turning 101800 miles it lost compression in #8 cylinder. Was told it was out of warranty and would take $4600 plus to fix it and may take several weeks to get parts due to factory strike. $7867. Later I have a new motor with radiator, hoses and water pump. This failure is common with the 8 cylinder 4 cylinder economy mode in these motors. GMC upgraded them in 2016. The Ram trucks are looking better all the time.

Constantly something wrong.
Constantly something wrong with it, a/c compressor shot, fuel injectors shot, constant bulletins but never any recalls so consumer is stuck footing bill of manufacturer issues. Stock rims paint peeling. I like the size and how it handles but wish there was more accountability in company.

GMC sierra. Cool but also very uncool.
Not fast can haul anything big. Wimp of a truck. It does have comfort and drives smooth though. Buttons are cool style is cool. Can't tow any trailers but it can do other things that a minivan could do. I don't really call it a truck even my old f150 was a lot better at towing. Bought it because it had good ratings and now I don't even like it that much. I love to drive it and ride in it but I do not like towing witch I do a lot.

I have had a 2004 and 2012 Silverado and now drive a 2015 GMC sierra. Bought with 27000 miles, the transmission vibration along with afm and high pressure fuel system noise is terrible. Same problems with new trucks. I think it's time to change to Ford or ram

Evap system issue and if bought used check to make sure spare tire is there.
Seems to be a solid truck. Only problem is a small issue with evap system makes it slow to fill gas tank.

2015 GMC sierra sle truck, silver with black wheels.
It is a all around great truck few problems with the transmission and radiator, plus the brakes go out quick! It drives great and the interior is amazing, depends on what type of interior you get looks best. The sound system is tremendous and works efficient.

What Problems Does the 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Have?

The most common problem reported for the 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 is an issue with the 4WD system. When the transfer case sensors or switches fail, it will cause a “Service 4WD” light to turn on at the dash.

Another problem over the years is an issue with the fuel gauge. The fuel sensor fails and causes the fuel gauge to display incorrect information. This is an expensive fix requiring replacement of the entire fuel pump module.

2015 GMC Denali - pros/cons.
I have had a couple issues with my 2015 GMC Denali. First of all the trailer brake alert is a constant issue. From what I have read it is a fuse issue and would be easy to fix. Secondly, the third tail light that is on the back of the cab leaks water. According to many consumers this is a GMC factory issue and can be fixed by replacing the seal or the entire light with an aftermarket light. As far as performance and reliability go I have had zero issues. The 6.2 has some power and hauls my fish house and enclosed trailers flawlessly. The leather seats (heated/cooled) are perfect and my wife loves them. The parking assist is great in a smaller garage and lets me know when I am inches away from the wall which is a great feature as well! Overall I would rate this vehicle as a solid 8.5/10 so far! I have owned for a year and a half.

Terrific Value if You Buy Used
I purchased a two year old 2015 Z71 SLE Crew cab with the 5.3L and it has been a remarkable truck to date. My best mileage has been 22.3mpg. I also tow a travel trailer and best mileage has been 13mpg. If you are looking for 35 mpg then do not buy a truck. He tow package, automatic 4w drive for bad weather, dual climate control, reliability, comfort, performance, remote start, Bluetooth features make this a keeper. The 5.3L engine has a light ticking sound, but I understand that is characteristic to all of them and may have something to do with the cylinder deactivation, and it doesn't bother me. The Sierra is comfortable, quiet and so to date has been dependable.

Front driver differential mount bolts fell out
I put my z71 2015 Silverado in 4wd high, and turned left - it started clunking like the wheel shaft was going to fall off. Got up on hoist, and the two bolts holding differential to frame were gone - the differential was pounding up and down against skid plate. It cracked the housing in middle of differential. Those bolts were never touched by anyone. Someone at factory in 2015 must not have torqued them correctly. 99,800 on vehicle, and waiting to hear if covered. Mechanic at my shop couldn't believe both of those bolts unscrewed themselves - he never saw anything like that.

People pay a lot of money for vehicles they should have better quality.
Purchased my truck brand new. It is not the quality that you would expect from gmc. My radio and dash has electrical problems. Radio will not play for no reason then suddenly come on. Dash will go blank for no reason. The floor covering is just the rubber mat, but it was not fitted in correctly. There are spots the mat is missing, it was cut to small. Paint on my tailgate is peeling, so you can see the gray primer. It has been a reliable truck and handles well. It is the bare bones model, no extras.

2015 GMC sierra 1500 Denali - best truck I have ever had!
It is very reliable. The worst problem I have had in 135,000 miles is my wipers needing replaced. Everything in the truck works very well. It is very comfortable, great for work, and even better for fun. Good gas mileage on road trips and the exhaust from the factory sounds great! If I ever get a new truck, it is going to be the same exact one, just a newer model. Mine has trailer brakes, 4wd, sunroof, heated and cooled seats, and so much more! Worth every dime!
accountCircle Thomas A on October 11, 2021
I love the Denali trim and comfort package, and it handles great.
It has a recurring issue with the 8 speed transmission that I really think gm should have made a recall and replaced. There is a temporary fix that I have to have done about once a year to stop the truck from shaking. They claim it is a new fluid and a flush, but they have to hold it for several days to do it. I do not think they are being completely honest about the issue or what they are doing to 'fix' the issue.

Great truck, crabby back seat room.
Not a fan of the small cab or the club cab feature. Too small for a family and fitting a car seat in the back is a pain. Performance wise it is great in every way. Reliability is great, I haven't had any issues with it mechanically at all besides preventative maintenance. Like I said the only real issue I have is the small cab and backseat, even a grown adult has a difficult time sitting in the back comfortably.

Terrible interface. Voice recognition does not work. When you plug in your cell phone the airplay does not function. Maps do not update free of charge. Maps are not accurate. I have a 2015 GMC sierra 1500 crew cab. We have had no problems with truck so far. Out of all our vehicles it is the most reliable. It has all the right features without overdoing it. Very smooth ride even with a suspension lift. I would recommend anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable and price-sensible vehicle, not to add, a beautiful look, to choose GMC.

For a full size truck it rides pretty smooth. It has been pretty reliable. The only issues I have had was the ac went out. Lots of features in the truck I.E. Great full size truck and family vehicle at the same time
I love the flex fuel option. Gets considerably good gas mileage for a truck. Very comfortable interior. Love the touch screen radio/GPS and controls on the steering wheel. The interior has great storage options. The mirrors are kind of cheap, I had one just fall off after becoming loose and break. Was pretty expensive to replace.

Good power for a half ton pickup. Great options. Use it to tow weekly from a boat to a 14 ft dump trailer. Only real negative is the suspension. Had to add helper springs just to pull my 16ft bass boat. Have 100,000 miles on it and have yet to replace anything major. Very happy with my GMC.

I absolutely love my GMC sierra! The a/c blows super cold and I have never had any problems with it. The back up camera is awesome quality on a big screen. The only thing I wish is that I would have gotten the sierra with the larger cab in the back for more foot room for my kiddos.

GMC lover - could not recommend a more superior vehicle.
I love my truck it is very reliable and does exactly what I need to do all the time. Even as a base model I am not limited on what I can haul so far! Very user friendly and front seat is super comfortable and customizable. Mine is black and I got the bed liner as well. Only issue is the headlights went out 4 years later but I guess that is normal.

2015 sierra GMC is a great to and from vehicle to have for school.
Love the gas mileage for traveling to and from college. Very comfortable vehicle to drive. Rides smooth. Back seats can be kinda small for passengers. The volume buttons on steering wheel help tremendously when listening to music. I love driving this vehicle.
accountCircle Daniel T on February 26, 2021
It is pretty smooth for a truck and gas good tech.
I like the size. I like the starter space. For a truck it gets decent mileage. It has also been reliable.

Great on fuel. It changes from v8 to v4 to conserve fuel.
I love my truck it handles the best. It has seats that warm up. A satellite radio that has the coolest music and talk shows to listen to.

I have added an extra leaf spring done through a local spring shop, which has not changed the ride characteristics but does help with cornering and towing (no more sag). I have replaced the halogen headlights with new LED bulbs which have made a huge difference in night driving, and replaced On-Star with an IO5-IO6 upgrade giving me a GPS navigation system. I do most of my own maintenance so the majority of add on items I have done myself. With a tonneau cover, the bed lighting is a nice feature. The tow package, automatic 4w drive for bad weather, dual climate control, reliability, comfort, performance, remote start, Bluetooth features make this a keeper. Some reviewers say it has recalls, I don’t know how that is an issue. All were done at my local dealership at no cost, I don’t know of many vehicles that have been recall free. I also purchased a rear under seat storage box. GMC should have it as a standard item. The 5.3L engine has a light ticking sound, but I understand that is characteristic to all of them and may have something to do with the cylinder deactivation, and it doesn't bother me. The Sierra is comfortable, quiet and so to date has been dependable. At my age I don't see any more new vehicles in my future; I intend to keep this truck until I can’t drive any longer. I may just put in another engine if it comes to that. I can’t say anything bad about it. Hopefully it will continue to perform well for a long time to come. I have changed the transmission fluid, antifreeze, hydraulics . . . Fluid changes are crucial to the longevity of any vehicle and for what prices are these days for new trucks, my used Sierra is worth every cent to keep it road worthy. Compared to a Chevy Silverado I once owned, the GMC Sierra is like changing from a suit into a tuxedo. Lots of comments on the looks, smooth ride and fun to drive. After the last big snowstorm the 4x4 traction is unbelievable. It is a keeper for sure.

My GMC sierra can do anything you would need a vehicle to do.

Good truck bad drivetrain had engine and. Transmission failure had both replaced. I have had ac trouble. The truck drives great when working no better truck. Even when having problem with the engine and transmission it still worked just could feel something wasn't right.

V8 all black GMC sierra. Midterm black edition.
Great engine. Great stereo. Performs well. Only problem is with the infotainment system. Infotainment system went out about 8 months ago. Recommendation was to replace. I do not have the money required to replace. GMC needs to do a better job with their infotainment system in the future.

Smooth ride, great fuel mileage.
Overall I like it a lot. I do wish it had some more options, like an XM radio, and a sliding rear window. I sometimes wish it had at least a v8 engine as I could use the extra power, but I also appreciate the great fuel mileage that I get with the v-6.

It is a truck. I had a full size SUV (Tahoe) before I purchased my Sierra. Not sure why I never had a truck before. It is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Full size truck that rides in comfort.
For a full size truck it rides pretty smooth. It has been pretty reliable. The only issues I have had was the ac went out. Lots of features in the truck I.E. Lane departure and has parking assist backup camera. Leather seats are smooth and comfortable. I have the crew cab model so the back seat has plenty of room for full size adults.

Full size GMC sierra that has many great qualities.
The vehicle was purchased as a used vehicle with one owner. I have not had any problems in the fours I have had it, except to replace the starter a month ago. It has all the bells and whistles and I have not figured out how to use all of them yet. During the winter, I really like the heated steering wheel.

The goods and the bads of the sierra.
Very reliable truck, easily tows, everything I have from quads and dirt bikes, to wood and camper. The trucks voice control software is terrible at picking up words and commands, it is very annoying. The extra cup holders and storage spots up front are very nice.

My truck is very spacious and my 3 children fit very comfortably. There's cup holders on all doors and in the middle back seat which my kids love. The inside looks very pleasing and the outer trim is very nice. The back of the truck has plenty of room for when we go shopping or to do outdoor activities.

Good power, lacks in suspension.
