The 2014 Chrysler 200 lasts around 200,000 miles with some average computer and wheel bearing issues. At $8,425 to $12,650, it’s cheaper than other midsize cars, making it a decent choice for shoppers.

likeFilled The Good
The cabin is very quiet, optional V6 engine is quick for a car its size and suspension is smooth.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Transmission is slow to shift between gears, braking distances are longer than average and technology is outdated.

Is the 2014 Chrysler 200 a Good Used Car?

  • Overall Rating 7/10 – 2014 is a good year for the Chrysler 200, although it’s only average for a midsize car, giving it an okay overall rating. Owner reviews praise the upscale interior, fast V6 engine, along with the available convertible model.
  • Interior, Comfort & Cargo 7/10 – Interior materials are high-quality for the car’s price, however, the seats become uncomfortable as it ages, and cargo space is low in the trunk.
  • Reliability 7/10 – There are no widespread problems on the 2014 Chrysler 200. Shoppers should avoid models from 20112013 as well as 20152016, which all have engine problems. Models from 2014 or 2017 are more dependable.
  • Performance 7/10 – The base 4-cylinder is average for a midsize sedan, while the optional V6 is reasonably quick.
  • Safety 6/10 – The Chrysler 200 gets a 4-star rating in frontal crash tests, with a low 3-star rating in the side impact test. There’s no advanced safety technology available.
  • Gas Mileage 7/10 – Fuel economy is average at 24MPG, giving owners 405 miles of range from the 16.9 gallon tank. Gas costs are $9 higher than average at $212 per month.
  • Value 7/10 – The 2014 Chrysler 200 is cheaper than other midsize cars, although buyers should be warned it loses value very fast.

Beautiful car! I love my car, from the first moment I saw it!
I bought my Chrysler 200 in 2017 and I instantly fell in love! Black on black, tinted windows! Sunroof, heated seats, and touch screen CD player/radio. My car is beautiful! It is a sport so it is pretty fast too and it performs well. It also serves well as a family car!

I enjoy riding around in my car. It runs really well and the interior is beautiful. Definitely recommend this car to new drivers. It rides very smooth. The engine runs nice and the color of the car is really pretty. It is also not very expensive. Great quality.

White body with black seats.
A Chrysler 200 is a great starting point when new to driving. The best parts of the 2014 I own is the heated seats, remote start, lots of legroom for other passengers and trunk space. Younger drivers usually have friends that they want to bring along so this is the perfect car for them, it can seat up to 5.

Chrysler 200 model automobile.
Great car, no problems with it. Chrysler has not given me problems and if so it is pieces are easily to be found here and not as expensive. All great so far. Small auto with sufficient space and motor running good. Only battery needs new, needs a change.

My vehicle save gas.. It is very comfortable.. It has a nice color and the seats are soft.. The panel is very practical.

Very reliable and gas saver.
Love the gas mileage I get very comfortable to drive and has four doors so more accessible for passengers.

Best car I've owned. Couldn't be better option for me.
I love this car, however the shifter trim came loose first week I brought it home brand new. The transmission slips when put into reverse after 3 years of owning it and its started to rust on the hood under the paint almost 1 year after owning in. This car was the last year that had the analog clock in the dash. This was my favorite part.

The vehicle is the smallest 'sedan' that has ever been known to man.
The cars seats are uncomfortable. The parts to fix things that are messed up are very expensive. The ac works well. Has a lot of room in the trunk, which is a plus. Creature comforts are nice. There is not much room in the back seat if you have children with car seats. I would rely on this car to take on long trips.

When the car is running its nice, which isnt very often, there are recalls on the seat belts and airbags, and if that isnt enough the car has something wrong every month it seems, alot of sensors have been changed, just would never buy from chrysler, if they can make a car with this many issues they obviously dont care about their customers,

There is absolutely nothing to highlight about this car.
There is a parasitic draw that nobody can find. The battery is dead within 15 hours of not driving the car. I have replaced the battery 5x, the alternator, the starter, a motor for the passenger window and spent $2k in breaks in 2 years of owning this vehicle.

Chrysler 200 summary of the car.
Heat does not work anymore. It worked for a while but suddenly stopped working. I live in a cold climate so having working heat is important. I likely would not get a similar car in the future but I may if the right opportunity presented. I would prefer something that I know very much will be reliable to me and not cause problems.

Car issues
Bought my car brand new 10/2014 had 30 miles. The second year I had it, something broke and had oil spewing out of the top and all over the driveway. Got it fixed under warranty. Also transmission wouldn’t shift into 3rd, took 2 weeks for that to get fixed under warranty. Had to get new ball joints after 3years, and tires are almost every year and nobody can tell me why. Never been in an accident, not driven too much and I’m not an aggressive driver. Never been curbed. Oh can’t forget the electrical issues at the 4yr mark later with my passenger window and sunroof. Now I’ve just done regular maintenance. 10/10 would not recommend, new car should NOT have that many issues. Paid it off fast so I could keep up on the weird maintenance. Had less maintenance on all my other 3 cars put together. Wish I would have just kept my truck at the time. Live and learn

What Do Critics Say About the Chrysler 200?

  • Consumer Reports says the Chrysler 200 has a revised, more comfortable suspension with average owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Chrysler 200 at 4.5/5, praising the fun convertible model, but doesn’t like the relatively small trunk.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Chrysler 200 a 2.7/5 enjoying the powerful V6 engine, but owners don’t like the front wheel drive.

What Common Problems Does the 2014 Chrysler 200 Have?

Common problems found on the 2014 Chrysler 200 include shutting off while driving, transmission issues, and vibrations while driving at highway speeds. Overall, these problems are average compared to other midsize cars, and repair costs are slightly higher as well.

Shutting off while driving is a widespread complaint from owners in the first 60,000 miles. The source of the problem is the totally integrated power module (TIPM) which is a common failure across many Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge models. Replacing the TIPM fixes the problem, costing around $950.

Transmission issues are also mentioned by some owners at around 32,000 miles. Owners complain about the transmission not shifting properly between gears. Usually, the problem is caused by a transmission controller configuration error. Resetting the controller fixes the problem, costing around $100.

Vibrations while driving at highway speeds are another problem brought up by owners in the first 40,000 miles. Worn-out wheel bearings will make the car vibrate while making excessive noise while driving. New wheel bearings cost about $150 per wheel, depending on local labor rates.

There’s only 1 minor recall for airbags, which is better than most other midsize cars. Chrysler will replace the air bag and seat pretensioners for free on affected vehicles.

How Long Will the 2014 Chrysler 200 Last?

A well-cared-for 2014 Chrysler 200 should last around 200,000 miles, which is 100,000 miles shorter than the top-rated Toyota Camry. Regular annual maintenance costs are slightly higher than average, according to data from Repair Pal, at $561 per year.

Since nearly all 2014 Chrysler 200 models will have over 100,000 miles buyers should be prepared to replace the A/C condenser for $650, door lock actuators costing $300, and the coolant reservoir which costs around $375.

accountCircle Joe D

No problems so far runs and starts like a champ runs and drives in the ice and snow just fine, no problems.

accountCircle Danielle C

The 2014 Chrysler 200 touring is totally reliable in summer spring fall and of course winter. It is one of the warmest cars to drive in winter.

accountCircle Brittany L

It is somewhat unreliable. I had problems with mine including the alternator, starter, had to have a new engine put in. Battery went out and then battery cables.

accountCircle Mary S

It is reliable. It does not really have any major issues. Mine specifically does not have a working aux port. It stopped working about 2 years after buying the car.

accountCircle Hannah H

Extremely reliable. The battery gave out on me once all of sudden but other than that no problems. Had the car for 3 years

accountCircle Ellie G

My Chrysler hasn't given me any problems. It's been very reliable to get me all around town and back.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is worse than other midsize cars from 2014 with a basic stereo. There’s an optional 6.5-inch touchscreen available, but the software is very outdated. There’s no advanced safety technology on the 2014 Chrysler 200, and it doesn’t even offer a rearview camera.

Is the 2014 Chrysler 200 a Good Value?

Yes, the 2014 Chrysler 200 is a good value for a midsize car. Blue book prices range from $8,425 to $12,650, making it cheaper than a Honda Accord or Nissan Altima. When new, the price range was $21,795 to $33,445. Depreciation is worse than average, losing about 15% of its current value per year.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The first generation of the Chrysler 200 was launched in 2011, which was replaced by the second generation in 2015.

2012: No major changes

2013: 200 S model removed and changed to a package on the Touring and Limited models.

2014: Removed 4-speed automatic transmission on sedan, all use 6-speed transmission.

2015: Fully redesigned for second generation, convertible model discontinued.

2016: Firmer front seats, rearview camera available on the Limited model.

2017: Final model year of the Chrysler 200 before it was discontinued.

How Does the Chrysler 200 Compare to the Competition?

The 2014 Chrysler 200 is only an average midsize car. The Chrysler 200 doesn’t stand out as a leader in any areas since it’s still missing a lot of features found in the competition.

The Chrysler 300 is another sedan from Chrysler which costs around $4,000 more. Performance and technology are both better in the Chrysler 300, however, the Chrysler 200 is offered as a convertible. We recommend the Chrysler 300 for 2014 since it has more passenger room.

The Honda Accord is a competitor which costs nearly $5,000 more. Technology is much more up-to-date in the Honda Accord, but the interior is nicer in the Chrysler 200. We recommend the Honda Accord for 2014 since they last longer with lower long-term ownership costs.

Car shutting off in Rush Hour traffic
My 2014 200 cuts off in traffic horn blows at will. It’s very unsafe if you have children in the car, because in rush hour in the way to work, almost got in a wreck because the other car didn’t see my flashers. I’m scared to continue driving it. Only had it 3 years and it’s not paid for. I want to trade it I feel it’s unsafe.

It's a great car, I leased used and it has given very little problems, I have changed the battery out a couple times but no further problems with this car, it runs great, it is good on gas and great on snow and ice with the right tires. Reliable car with minor tweaks.
Battery light comes on often in cold weather. Other than this issue it performs well. I do have an issue with the blend door actuator that I have found is common in these vehicles as well as a couple other American vehicles. Sometimes it can be tough to accelerate uphill due to it being front wheel drive and also 9 speed automatic transmission.

Chrysler 200 2014 version review.
I bought this car used and it has been an amazing turnout so far. I love the similarities to my last car which was a dodge. The car gets great gas mileage and has a very roomy interior for how small the car is. Sound system works great also. I like the classy looking clock on the front of the car as well. Very compact and easy to drive, which is great for someone like me who does not work with cars but is always on the go. Simple dashboard, simple buttons and simple driving standards. I will be recommending this car.

I like Chrysler! I used to have an 2007 sebring and went for a 2014 200 which was basically the same car. Just a different year! The steering wheels are a little stiffer than most cars but they run smooth. I have never had anything really wrong with my cars.

Amazing, and the best purchase I could make.
Gas guzzlers, but other than that nothing seems to be wrong, altogether a smooth ride. As well as the sound system works perfectly! I will say that the gas gauge will move a bit when turning. And the trunk space can afford to be a bit bigger considering how much space is offered in the seats.

Life of a 200 Chrysler 2014.
It's very efficient on gas. Great car for a single person or college kid. Not enough space for family of 5. A good car to travel in. Picks up speed well. I hate the fact the battery and transmission checker is under the motor. You have to go through the tires to change out the bulb light, if not the mechanic will have to drop your bumper to replace it.

Chrysler 200 review for an average owner.
It is a very comfortable vehicle, rides smooth and does not have too many problems. The car is good on gas the only problem I ever have is tires running out of air pretty quick. But overall a very good vehicle. It is decently cheap to fill up at the pump. It is also low maintenance. They stay in pretty good shape.

I love this vehicle, it has all the right curves, very sharp looking! I get over 300 miles to the gallon. Even though it is only a 4 cylinder I have to say it has a lot of pick up. I don't have any problems getting into traffic a all. It is very comfortable driving and it handles well. The dash board displays are very helpful, one in particular that I like let's you know when you need air in your tires I find this very helpful. I love everything about this car. It has a nice CD/stereo system an it also has an auxiliary feature so you can hook your phone to it and play other music plus it allows your phone to come thru the radio which is very nice. The only thing is I have never had a problem with back seat legroom in any other car before, it seems with the Chrysler 200 the. Trunk is very roomy but I feel it compromised the legroom of the back seat, other than that I am very happy with this car. I hope to get many more years of driving with this vehicle.

When I bought my car it wasn't even a year old, within a year I had to have the radiator hose replace and a new battery. Clear coat is peeling off the back of the car, bolts are coming off on the front seats, the drivers side passenger door fills up with water when it rains or the car gets washed which is causing dampness in side the car causing the door panel to come unglued at the windows rear view mirror is becoming unseeable carpet is coming up because of the dampness. Drivers side window wouldn't go up more then a few times.I love my car except for all of the above which is more then enough wrote to chrysler several times no one will help or even reply. I take very good care of my car but why should I pay for something that isnt due to my negligence.

The back seats fold up and down to make extra trunk space!
This car has been awesome to us!! I don't really have any complaints. But two things I would have made different would be, the battery is located under the front drivers side wheel so you have to take the tire the way off to get to it. Secondly, the windshield wipers are not very fast even on high speed. But other than those two minor details, I love my car. I would definitely recommend it to people with a family and who like to travel.

I love my Chrysler. It's roomy enough for me. It drives and handles well. I'm hoping it does in winter as well. It had a recall and I got that taken care of. I was having problems with the key fob not locking or unlocking my car, and there's only one way in and that's the driver door. Trunk has no spot to unlock. Just a button inside you push. Hoping I have that fixed. Can never go to the Dealer. They put the hurt on you.

Great family car without the expensive tag.
The weight of the car is to heavy for the engine size so gas mileage is not the best. It does have enough power to get up and go on the highway if needed. Plenty of room on the inside, smooth ride. There is a problem with the gas cap, it sets off the check engine light, I think due to the air pressure or something like that.

My 2014 Chrysler 200 lx is a great car, it is great on gas. It runs quiet and smooth and the radio is pretty good even though it is a factory radio. Really y only problem is my tires go bad fast but I think it is the roads around here. I love that you can control the radio on the steering wheel so you do not get distracted. My vehicle is perfect for driving around town in comfort and style or long drives. The gas mileage is great and I love the heated seats! The hands free talk through the speaker feature is my favorite I am able to just tell my car what to do and it does it!

It could be made better. They can improve in a lot of areas.
The car it is self looks very nice and astonishing but it drinks a lot of gas. The interior of that car is easily messed up and tears easily. There was a recent recall on the car for a serious malfunction. The performance is not all that bad but could be made better and have lots of improvements.

Very dependable and runs great. Have had no problems with it.
My Chrysler 200 is about 4 years old and it runs awesome. I have had no problems at all with the running capability. I am very happy with it.

Chrysler 200: the best car.
It drives really well, and I have not had any maintenance issues yet. Just the regular oil changes, and sometimes I would get flats along the way, but that is due to external circumstances. The car looks nice, is affordable, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.

All in all it is a great vehicle.
We have had no problems with our car. It has a really great ride. I would buy another Chrysler vehicle.

It is good in the winter, in the snow. Better than I expected living in the country.
I wish it had more room. I love the gas mileage associated with it. It has been a good car with no problems at 77000 miles.

Great trunk space. Lots of room when the top is up, and even when the top is down, you can still get golf clubs in.
It is a convertible that can hold my golf clubs in the trunk while the top is down which is very unusual to find. We take the car on a lot of road trips and it has proven to be very durable. It does not have great pickup and the gas mileage is not as good as our last Chrysler, but we have put 50,000 miles on it with no complaints.

My Chrysler is the perfect color and car for a mother with 3 boys.
My car is reliable. It only takes $40 to fill and it takes me through the week before it gets pass half. The transmission has a slight error but can be fixed it drive smooth. The inside is very spacious. Fits all 3 of my boys comfortably. The passenger side is spacious and comfortable. And the drivers side is a perfect fit for a tall woman as myself.

Relatively reliable Chrysler.
I do not like how low it likes to the ground. Easy to scratch the bumper. It is relatively reliable, we've had it since 2016 and we've had a few bumps in the road but only one was slightly drastic. It is comfortable, although for a family of 4 with two kiddos in rear facing seats, it is kind of hard to have much space anyways.

Good on gas. Comfortable seating. Nice stereo system.
I really like this car, it is good on gas and it drives really smooth. We have not had any issues with the car so far, other than the motor in the window needing to be replace, after having the car for a lot of years. I would recommended the car to anyone of my friends or family.

I like my car, but I think some parts of it are too complicated.
I think it is an okay car. It handled well and has good visibility. The only thing I do not like is how complicated it is to do certain things on it. For example, the front wheel has to be removed to change the battery. I do not understand why it would be designed that way.

It is very practical and save in gas.
My vehicle save gas.. It is very comfortable.. It has a nice color and the seats are soft.. The panel is very practical.

Does well on gas and runs smoothly.
My vehicle runs great. The only thing wrong is that I just need new rotors because it shakes a little when I break going downhill. And it does well on gas. One of the things I dislike about my car is the front end, it is a bit ugly but I am grateful for what I have. Overall my car runs great and I have had no problems out of it other than needing new rotors.

2014 Chrysler 200 s decent sedan.
The car is reliable not many issues I just personally do not like the vehicle. Gets about 3 mpg on the freeway and 23-25 in the city depending on the way you drive. I get oil changes every 3,000 miles and my car has not thrown up any issues since I have had it which it has been about a year.

Key features of the Chrysler 200.
This vehicle is very reliable. A great family vehicle, it seats 5. 3 in the back and 2 in the front. When shifting from park to drive you have to be careful not to shift to far down, or else it can be treated as a “bump shift”, going from an automatic to a standard. A very roomy trunk, you are easily able to fit a full size spare, tool kit and a jack to easily fix a flat tire. This vehicle is completely reliable, but speeds up quickly to reach a max speed of 110 mph.

Very stylish and affordable.
Very good gas mileage. I probably fill up twice a week. Really haven't had any problems with this car. Probably one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. Very stylish, yet very affordable. I would definitely recommend buying this car.

Topless freedom, hair blowing in the breeze.
My car is reliability is great, I take good care of it. Oil change on time. She is refreshing to drive. Convertible with hardtop. Only one problem. The cable harness to the convertible was my only problem. $ 400 to fix, a poor design from engineering.

My Chrysler 200 experience.
So far no issues. Had it for 3 months now and still in love. The car rides smooth. It is quiet and the sound system in it is amazing. It has awesome gas mileage at an average 22 miles per gallon on the city roads and average of about 30 miles per gallon on long trips.
