The starter solenoid in a 2003 Ford Ranger is on top of the starter motor. It's easiest found by first locating the battery in the engine compartment. Follow the red positive cable attached to the battery and it will take You directly to the solenoid. The purpose of the solenoid is to work as a connection between the battery and starter. It essentially creates a magnetic field to engage the internal combustion engine. Symptoms of a bad starter solenoid in a Ranger include engine doesn't crank, no clicking when attempting to start the engine, starter spins without engaging the flywheel, and the engine cranks slowly. A bad one can also mimic other issues, such as a dead battery, loose battery terminals, seized engine, and issues with a starting circuit. Replacing this solenoid in the 2003 Ranger will run You between $260 and $330, including labor.

You would have to take off the left side tire front and you will see the starter there

The starter solenoid for the 2003 ford ranger is located under the hood on the fire wall.
