The O2 sensor on Your 2009 Ford Escape is a key part of its emissions system and should be located in more than one place. The Escape is equipped O2 sensors that lie before and after the catalytic converter. Depending on which "bank" the sensor is found, they may also be on either the right or left side of the engine, next to the first or second cylinder. In-line engines have only one. The check engine light will illuminate if either of Your Escape's O2's are going bad, accompanied by a code. A code will contain both a bank and sensor number, that reveals the O2's position in relation to the engine's cylinders and the catalytic converter. Signs they need replacing include engine mIS Fires, poor fuel economy and a rough idle.

Oxygen sensors are located within the exhaust stream, there is at least one oxygen sensor located before the catalytic converter and typically one in each exhaust manifold.
