It is recommended to use an engine oil with a viscosity grade SAE 0W-20 and has the API SN PLUS/SP or ILSAC GF-6 certification in the Kia Rio. Kia recommends TOTAL QUARTZ brand oil, but as long as it has the same viscosity and certification, any oil can be used. You should manually check the oil level in the engine at least once a week, every time You put gasoline in the tank would be ideal. When checking the oil level make sure You park on a level surface and turn the engine off. Allow the car to sit for at least 15 minutes to allow the oil to drain back into the pan. Now pull out the dipstick and wipe it off with a clean cloth. Put it back down in the tube, making sure it goes all the way down and then pull it back out and look at the tip of the dipstick and make sure the oil is in between the Min and Max mark.
