You're going to be surprised to hear this, but Your 2013 Kia Soul doesn't have any power steering fluid at all! That's right; You've got a direct electric system for the steering, and there isn't any fluid involved. While this has no maintenance items and is generally reliable, it can fail. You'll typically get the check engine light (CEL) with a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicating the steering, and You'll find it gets heavy and hard to steer, should it fail. One of the more typical failures here can be the steering pinion plug, which can allow the pinion gear to separate from the steering assembly when it goes. If Your Soul isn't under warranty (yes, I really just wanted to type that!) then it'll cost You around $115 in parts and $120 in labor to replace the failed parts.
