The 2006 Dodge Cummins coolant temperature sensor is located at the back of the cylinder head just below the air intake on the driver side. If You stand at the front driver side Fender looking at the engine be sensor will be several inches above the starter motor and to the right of the fuel filter. The sensor sends data to the computer which interprets the information and in turn, will adjust other components performance. A bad sensor can cause the computer to think the coolant temperature if fine and not turn the cooling fan on. This could lead to overheating and potential damage to the engine. A failed sensor can also cause hard starts and rough idling.
