Your 2009 Honda Pilot is designed to disable a Variable Torque Management 4WD System (VTM4) in case there is a problem with engine operation. When You have a check engine and VTM4 light on, this will usually indicate a problem with an engine. You need to resolve the engine faults, and the VTM4 system will usually restart after this. The first thing that You, Your mechanic, or dealer should do is scan the engine codes using an OBD-II scanner. The code will give You a good idea of what is causing the check engine light to stay on. Auto parts stores such as Advance Auto Parts and Autozone will scan the codes for You free of charge. An O2 sensor performing below efficiency is a widespread problem that will cause Your Honda check engine light to come on.
