The 2003 Ford Focus uses Otlqt-ea Transmission Fluid. It has a capacity of 2.1 quarts. Transmission fluid, similar to oil, is a lubricant and its purpose is to make sure that the various working parts of the transmission are not subject to damage from heat. The cost of getting the transmission fluid changed on Your Focus is between $120 and $150 for labor and parts are priced at $270. You should get Your transmission fluid changed every 10,000 miles. The signs that You need a transmission fluid change include a grinding noise coming from the transmission, problems shifting gears, slippage during gear shifts, sudden unexplained surges, and a delay in movement after You place the vehicle in gear.

OE Fuel-Efficient Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (OTLQT-EA) is recommended for automatic transmissions, while manual transmissions require gear oil. Be very careful when handling automatic transmissioin fluid, as it is highly dangerous.

2003 Ford Focus transmission has a 6.9 quart total capacity & uses Mercon V transmission fluid. If you just drop the pan & change the filter & fluid it will take 3-4 quarts to refill. If you take out all the fluid it 6.9 quarts.
