2016 and later models of the Honda Civic are noted for experiencing an electronic parking brake warning on the dash that prevents them from reversing or moving the vehicle upon starting. The PB is powered by an on-dash button that has not been engaged at the time. Owners will witness an "Electric Brake Problem" message on the center screen accompanied by "brake" and "brake system" warning lights illuminated. Often depressing the EPB button and then turning the car off and on will switch off the warnings and engage the drive or reversing gears again. In addition, 350,000 2016 Civics were also recalled for the EPB failing to engage when activated. In these cases cars rolled away after being braked. Honda attributes the failure to a software glitch in the vehicle stability assist control unit. However, A-A-Classction suit was initiated to compensate owners for property damaged accrued from rolling vehicles.
