The engine control unit (ECU) of the Honda Civic can have some problems from time to time. Some of these include a check engine light staying on after resetting it, loss of spark, overheating ECU, ECU with broken pins, a control module memory error, engine turning off for no reason and more. Sometimes the ECU problem can be fixBy resetting it. To reset Your ECU, drive Your car until warm, turn off the car, disconnect the battery and pull the ECU fuse out, put the fuse back and start the car. Do not move anything, just let the car idle for 10 minutes. If the problems persist, You will have to take it in to a mechanic to take a good look.

If the ecu is bad then you will likely have some of these issues, engine stalling or misfiring, engine performance issues, the car failing to start, and the check engine light coming on.
