The main VW Golf Mk5 DSG gearbox problems are usually caused by the double clutch system. When this wears down You will usually notice that the vehicle will shudder while it is accelerating. Another common problem with the transmission is the transmission control module failing. If the computer fails then it leads to delayed shifts between gears. You may also notice that Your transmission is very loud while it is running. That is usually caused by a failed bearing somewhere in the transmission that will need to be replaced to make it not be as loud. Transmissions are very complex systems and the best way to keep an eye on it is to check the fluid regularly.
