Volkswagen clutches are notoriously expensive; they're often what I point to when trying to dissuade friends and family from jumping into "German engineering" if they're on a tight budget. In the case of the-Golf Mk4 generation, You won't be without clutch issues, and unfortunately they'll usually set You back a pretty penny. Aside from an overall and complete failure of the clutch, one of the main issues You might see is leaky fluid. You may also lose a great deal of Your clutch's range, as it won't engage until it nears the floor. This can be caused by a failed throwout bearing or a bent clutch pedal lever. You should also check to ensure that there are no issues with the pivot ball that the arm pivots upon.
