The biggest problem with the PCM in a 2008 Ford Explorer can lead to the vehicle mIS Firing. When the power control module does not understand what is happening in the engine it will not send the right amount of fuel and air to it and that can lead to the truck running rough. If Your PCM is failing usually You will get a check engine light at Your dash since the ECU loses communication to it. Another sign that there could be a problem with the PCM is that You suddenly have a loss in fuel mileage for the vehicle. If You suddenly notice that You have to fill up more often You will want to make sure to check the PCM.
