The 2003 Ford Focus has either a 2.0 L 4Cylinder or a 2.3 L 4Cylinder that needS4.5 quarts of oil with a filter. The recommended type that should be used in the car iS5W-20 Synthetic in all temperatures. 5W-20 means that 5 is the viscosity or the thickness of the oil at startup, w is for winter and 20 is the thickness or the viscosity at operating speeds. The torque for the drain plug is 17 ft/lbs for the 2.0 L 4Cylinder and 21 ft/lbs for the 2.3 L 4Cylinder engine. You should do regular oil and filter changes every 5,000 miles or so. The cost of oil per quart is around $8 to $13 or $36 to $59 for the full 4.5 quarts. It only takes about 5 to 15 minutes to do a change.

4 quarts of 5W-20 oil, for the 2 liter engine. For the 2.3, the engine requires 4.5 quarts of 5W-20 oil during an oil change. Be sure to replace the filter as well.
