Hyundai Palisade Interior Features

The Palisade may be one of Hyundai’s largest vehicles, but what does that mean when they’re famous for smaller autos? Can the automaker compete with the big boys on interior features?

2020 Hyundai Palisade - photo by Hyundai

When you hear “mid-size” you never know what you’re getting. A full-size SUV is going to be roomy. With a compact, you’re trading interior space for efficiency and nimble handling. But with a mid-size like the Hyundai Palisade, there’s no telling if it’s a little too big, a little too small, or just right.

So how does the Palisade Interior stack up? Is it cozy, or just plain cramped? And while we’re at it, what about the bells and whistles? Are they up to date, or do they fall behind other family SUVs? And how’s the road noise? Is it a smooth ride, or a little whooshy?

The answer to all of these questions: it depends on what you’re after.

Some drivers say it’s perfect, others say the rear legroom is a bit tight. Some are satisfied with the interior features, others feel that too many must-haves are tucked away in the high-end trim levels.

The only way to know if it’s right for you is to find out exactly what’s waiting for you inside the Hyundai Palisade. So, let’s get started.

Hyundai Palisade: Exploring the Interior Space

The Hyundai Palisade is still on its first generation, which debuted in 2018 for the 2020 model year. So the basic interior dimensions are the same whether you’re buying a 2020 or a 2021.

The Palisade may not be the largest vehicle in its class, but it is the largest vehicle Hyundai has ever produced. So if you’ve ever ridden in a Hyundai truck or SUV and you found it to be roomy enough, the Palisade will be even roomier. Check out Doug DeMuro going over the 2020 Palisade’s finer points in the video review below.

To get an idea of what you can expect inside a Palisade, we’ll start with basic interior dimensions. How big is the inside of a Hyundai Palisade?

  • Cargo capacity: 18 cu. ft. – 86.4 cu. ft.
  • Front headroom: 40.7″
  • Front legroom: 44.1″
  • Second-row headroom: 40.1″
  • Second-row legroom: 42.4″
  • Third-row headroom: 37.8″
  • Third-row legroom: 31.4″

Depending on your seating options, you can carry seven to eight passengers. Eight if you go with the bench for the middle row (SE trim level), seven if you go with a pair of bucket seats (SEL and Limited).

Comparing the interior dimensions to a 2021 Kia Telluride, most interior dimensions are roughly the same, but you get a few extra inches of front legroom in the Palisade. Cargo volume is about the same between the two, and so is seating.

Which is better, Telluride or Palisade? Palisade, by about three inches, if you’re going on interior dimensions alone.

The back row can get a little tight if you’re trying to carry seven or eight adults around town, but should be spacious enough for three younger kids or two adult-sized passengers. And you’ll have a hard time finding a reviewer complaining about a lack of cup-holders, pockets and assorted hideaways, nooks, and crannies.

Whether you get the bench or the bucket seats for the middle, the second and third row both fold down, so if it’s just you and your luggage, you can take advantage of those eighty-six cubic feet of cargo space without having to look for your wrench-set to take the seats out.

Hyundai Palisade: Interior Features and Comfort

No matter how spacious an SUV might be, if the kids are bored and the grown-ups are uncomfortable, it’s going to feel crowded.

Entertainment features are solid. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB input, an LCD monitor up front and an eight-inch display for the audio system. The Limited edition will get you a twelve-speaker Harman/Kardon setup and a second LCD monitor up front.

The ride is surprisingly comfortable for what some consider to be a budget car, with dual-zone air conditioning in the SEL and Limited trim levels, cushy multi-link and strut suspension, and optional heated seats.

Two reviewers on Vehicle History have cited road noise issues when driving their 2020 Palisades on the highway. Your mileage may vary, but if you take a look at some test drive videos on Youtube, you may find that the 2021 seems to be a bit quieter than the 2020 (one of few noticeable differences we could find between the two models).

Overall, maybe the Palisade isn’t quite an Escalade, but it’s darned luxurious for something so affordable.

Is the Hyundai Palisade a Good Car?

Yes.

Now, you do need to consider more than just the interior here, you need to do some additional research and compare the Palisade to your second, third, and fourth choices. But, for an SUV starting at under $35k, the Palisade delivers a very comfortable, very convenient driving experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Apr 6, 2022

Does the Hyundai Palisade have heated seats?

Heated seats are a great feature if you live in a cold climate, and are something that is commonly found on luxury vehicles. The Hyundai Palisade does offer heated seats if you choose the Luxury package. If you choose the Limited or Calligraphy package then you have heated first and second-row seats as standard.

Hyundai has been working to improve the luxury of their vehicles as they have gotten better over time. When Hyundai first came to the United States they were focused on making economy cars, now they are focusing on improving the interior quality as their vehicles have gotten more reliable over time.

A Hyundai Palisade is a great value when you look at all of the other midsize SUVs that are on the market. These are very luxurious, well-built, and have the longest warranty in the industry. The Palisade is an SUV that Hyundai has a hard time keeping in stock because they are so popular.

What comes standard on a Hyundai Palisade?

The Hyundai Palisade comes in four different trim options, and each one offers different things as standard. The base SE model comes standard with a 291 horsepower 3.8L V6 engine, seating for up to 8 people, an 8-inch color touchscreen in the dash, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as forward collision-avoidance with pedestrian detection. This is a very feature-packed midsize SUV for the starting price of $32,675.

As you go up the trim options for the Palisade you will eventually get to the fully loaded trim which is the Calligraphy. This has an all-wheel-drive standard, 20-inch wheels, a redesigned front and rear bumper, as well as a luxurious quilted Nappa leather interior. The Calligraphy has a starting price of $46,200 and you still get a lot of luxurious features for your money.

The Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride are built on the same platform. Hyundai has chosen to go for a more luxurious feeling SUV, and Kia is targeted more towards the off-road crowd with their more aggressive exterior. Both are great options to look at if you want a midsize SUV.

What's the difference between Palisade SEL and Limited?

The Hyundai Palisade SEL and Limited trims offer the biggest price increase across the entire Palisade lineup. Stepping up from SEL to Limited costs nearly $10,000, so what exactly do you get for the extra money?

The Limited is where you start to get more of the luxury features in the Palisade. The upgrades include Nappa leather, a power liftgate, a power third-row of seats, the second-row captain's chairs offered as standard, the panoramic dual sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a full heads up display. The Limited is a great upgrade if you want a more luxurious SUV.

All of the Hyundai Palisade trims offer a lot of value for the money, but the Limited is where Hyundai starts competing with the established luxury brands. With the Limited trim you are finding features that are more commonly found on vehicles that cost over $70,000, but all in a package that starts at $45,275.

2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL: Great purchase for all that is included.
The seats are fabric which keeps them comfortable regardless of the outside temperature, there are retractable window shades which makes it great to keep Middletown passengers comfortable from sunlight and dog noses off of the windows, the sun/moonroof is excellent for driving under 40 mph, with all seats but the driver’s seat down you can fit 2 kayaks, 2 people, kayaking gear, & 1-2 large dogs. The comfort setting of the car drives very smoothly, lane assist helps avoid drifting into other lanes/off the road, the size of the cabin is very roomy and comfortable, the high tech features are fun.

The 2020 Hyundai Palisade SE is a great choice for families!
I absolutely love my Hyundai palisade! It is great for all of my kids and is very reliable. The performance of my vehicle is incredible and I haven't had any problems with it so far. I love all of features. They make it much easier to drive. There are so many things in my palisade I would have never thought to put in a car, but make it so much easier! Getting a warning if one of my four kids is not buckled from my seat is pretty incredible!

Great value, great quality, great 2020 Hyundai Palisade SE.
The best part, to me, would have to be the captain seats that both heat up and cool down upon request. This feature offers three different levels of heating or cooling which is great. All in all, I have fell in love with all of the features this car has to offer and the two sunroofs are an amazing addition as well.

2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL is a great 3 row SUV.
So far I have had no issues with the vehicle. My biggest complaint, which is minor, is that I dislike the auto-turn off at stop light feature. And I wish there was a way to disable it permanently, but I have to disable it every time I get in the car. It is a bit annoying but something I will just have to deal with.

This vehicle is perfect for distance or even just to the grocery store. The detailing inside provides a nice comfort. The sound is phenomenal and you can adjust where the sound is in the car. The apple play feature in the car is not only cool but very helpful for long trips.

Very nice, smooth ride. All the bells and whistles. Heated seats are wonderful in Minnesota winter's. Cameras are clear and wide. The push button shift will be different but it is a cool feature. I like all of the rear controls and the two sunroofs are pretty cool too.

The palisade is very roomy for the whole family. Even the third row seating has plenty of legroom for adults. This is not a feature I found in comparable SUVs. Is has a luxurious interior with many safety features that make driving this vehicle a joy.

Very pleased with this vehicle. Chosen for safety features and seating package-2nd row captains chairs- does not disappoint! Pretty sure this SUV could almost drive itself! Only features not available were front camera and heated steering.

2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL is perfect for small families!
Over all I really love it! It is very spacious with 2 kids and could definitely work with a 3rd! Has tons of great safety features and is very comfortable. I wish the sel version came with a power liftgate that would be my only complaint.

2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL features.
The second row split seats only have one option to sit. A/c and heat are good. Third row is kind of small but still comfortable. Trunk is small but not a big issue. CarPlay is very good. Music doesn't go too loud.
