A spacious minivan like the Honda Odyssey can be a practical choice, especially for growing families. Offering three rows of standard seating with plenty of convenient features, this minivan is a popular seller. As with many models, however, the Odyssey is not immune to safety recalls.

How many Honda Odyssey safety recalls have been issued?

Dozens over the years, but a few are notable for the number of vehicles affected or the severity of the safety risk. Some examples of Honda Odyssey recalls have included:

  • Defective/cracked fuel pump covers
  • Inadvertent braking
  • Missing airbag rivets
  • Door latch failure

If you drive a Honda Odyssey, whether it be an earlier model like the 2005 Odyssey or even a newer 2019 Odyssey, you’ll want to be aware of these recalls. We’ve detailed some of the most notable recalls on this minivan below for your convenience.

2005-2010 Honda Odyssey: Cracked Fuel Pump Cover

NHTSA Recall ID: 14V112000

This recall, which was issued in March of 2014, affects more than 880,000 Honda Odyssey vehicles from the 2005 through 2010 model years. On affected vehicles, the strainer cover on the fuel pump may be defective and deteriorate over time, which may cause a fuel leak.

If the recall is ignored and fuel leak occurs, this can increase the risk of a vehicle fire.

Honda is addressing this recall by replacing the fuel pump covers on all involved vehicles.

2007-2008 Honda Odyssey: Unexpected Brake Application

NHTSA Recall ID: 13V500000

This recall affects up to 344,187 Honda Odyssey vehicles made for the 2007 and 2008 model years. On models affected by this recall, the Vehicle Safety Assist System (VSA) may unexpectedly apply the automatic braking system due to an issue with the parts and software.

It has also been reported that when this occurs, the vehicle’s brake lights do not illuminate, which further increases the risk of a crash.

If your Odyssey is part of this recall, you will need to have components of the vehicle’s VSA system replaced and software updated to prevent inadvertent braking.

2011-2013 Honda Odyssey: Missing Airbag Rivets

NHTSA Recall ID: 13V016000

This large safety recall, which was issued in 2013, affects more than 748,000 Odyssey and Pilot models. Specifically, it was discovered that one or more rivets used to attach the vehicle’s airbag module to the airbag cover may be missing.

As a result, the driver’s side airbag may not deploy properly in the event of a crash, which may increase the risk of injury or death.

Honda is addressing this recall by inspecting the driver airbag module on all potentially affected vehicles and replacing the modules as needed.

2018-2020 Honda Odyssey: Sliding Door Latch Failure

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V437000

Issued in July of 2020, this recall affects more than 324,000 Honda Odyssey vehicles made for the 2018-2020 model years.

In some vehicles, water may penetrate the outer door handle cables responsible for controlling the automatic sliding doors. If this occurs, the cables can become frozen in cold temperatures, which may prevent the doors from properly latching.

If ignored, affected power sliding doors could open while the vehicle is in motion, which can increase the risk of injury and create unsafe driving conditions.

If your Odyssey is part of this recall, schedule a service appointment to have the outer handle cables replaced on your power sliding doors free of charge.
