White 2020 Ford Fusion From Front-Passenger Side

The Ford Fusion has a unique design where the battery is in the trunk. The problem is, if the battery dies, opening the trunk is difficult as the release is electronic.

Thankfully, there are several ways to open the trunk.

How do you open the trunk on a Ford Fusion with a dead battery?

The easiest way to open the trunk is to charge the battery. There are actually charging points under the hood of the car. You can also open the trunk from the inside the car, by pulling the emergency trunk release.

We’ll look at the Ford Fusion. You’ll learn about its history and features. You’ll also learn how to open the trunk step by step when the battery is dead. It’s a common problem. Luckily, there are accessible solutions.

The Ford Fusion

The Ford Fusion is a midsize four-door sedan with seating for five. The first Fusion was released in 2006. The first-generation Fusion provided a choice of a 2.3L (138 ci) 4-cylinder or a 3.0L (182 ci) V6. In 2007, all-wheel-drive became available on the 6-cylinder model.

In 2010, a gasoline-hybrid version was released alongside the gas engines.

In 2013, the second-generation of the Fusion began. It offered several engine options. These are a 2.5L (152 ci) 4-cylinder, an EcoBoost Turbo 2.0L (122 ci) 4-cylinder, and a 2.0L 4-cylinder hybrid engine. A 1.5L (91 ci) EcoBoost turbo engine was released in 2014.

In 2017, a 2.7L (165 ci) EcoBoost was released. It has 325 horsepower, making it by far the fastest engine choice for the Fusion.

The Fusion is meant to be fun to drive and relatively affordable. It puts a modern spin on the family sedan, appealing to those who enjoy standing out from the crowd. A wide range of engine options and trim levels add to its appeal.

How to Open the Trunk in a Ford Fusion with a Dead Battery

The above video shows how to open the trunk by pulling the emergency lever. You’ll need to fold the rear seat so you can access the trunk. You may need a coat hanger or a similar tool to reach the lever.

Once you have the lever, just pull it and the trunk will release.

The second method is to charge the battery. Hybrid Fusion’s have the battery in the trunk, which obviously presents a problem. However, the Fusion is designed with charging terminals under the hood, but many people aren’t aware of them.

You’ll find the positive terminal with a red cover, and the negative terminal grounded near the rear of the engine compartment. You can see the placement in this video.

Many models have the battery under the hood, but the negative terminal is nearly impossible to reach. However, there’s also a terminal to the side of the battery. It isn’t marked, but it should be clear if you know you are looking for it.

You can use a battery charger or another vehicle to charge the battery. Apply the positive side first, and then the negative. Then you can turn on your power source and let the battery charge. Once it’s charged, the trunk should open using typical methods.
