Meet the EcoSport, the tiniest subcompact in the Ford lineup. Sadly, not only has it been an overall dud with owners, but it’s also had a few recalls issued for it.

How many recalls does my Ford EcoSport have?

Currently, there are two recalls that were issued by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration:

  • Equipment and labels recall
  • Seats recall

Not all cars that fall within the make and model year range will be affected by these defects, but it’s always best to take your car in for inspection to make sure that it’s not affected. Recalls can be intimidating, but taking the time to get your recall taken care of can make your car safe and sound to drive once again.

Incorrect Brake Fluid Cap

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V312000

This recall, which was issued in May of 2018, was in response to the fact that some models were shipped to the United States with the wrong labels. This recall was for 2018 Ford EcoSports.

Some models were sent over with the European version of the brake reservoir pictogram cap and the European version of the owner’s manual. Though the cap and the manual are both in English, they are not in compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard.

It is believed that this mislabeling does have the potential to cause confusion when the brake fluid is being refilled or worked on. Though these are labeled in English, there are some slight variations that might cause confusion.

If the person refilling or replacing the brake fluid should become confused, they may put the wrong fluid in the wrong place, which could lead to an increased potential for a crash or for damage to the vehicle that might not be reversible.

Remedy: The fix for this recall is quite simple. The owner of the car can take the car in to have the cap replaced and to get a new, U.S. English version of the owner manual and owner manual kit.

Insufficient Front Seat Frame Weld

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V023000

This recall, which has to do with the seats of certain Ecosports, was issued in January of 2019. The recall is for 2019 Ford EcoSports. The recall has to do with some seats that were not properly welded into place on the frames and to the body of the car.

The seat back has the potential to become disconnected from the base of the seat, which does increase the chances of injury and accident.

If the back of the seat dislodges, moves or becomes detached while the car is in motion, it can cause an accident and may cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

This recall has to do with the fact that the vehicle is not in compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for seating systems and anchorage. If the seat back comes undone or loose while the vehicle is not in motion, it can also cause injury.

Remedy: The fix for this recall is that the front seat assemblies must be fully replaced or repaired free of charge. This is to ensure that the seat stays where it should and that it does not come loose while the vehicle is in use.

What to Do if You Think Your Car Has a Recall

If you suspect that your car has a recall, but you have not yet been sent a notice or you have lost your notice, you can conduct a quick search of the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration site to see if your car has any recalls.

You can do this by typing in the VIN number for your car or doing a quick search of the make, model and year. Recall repairs can help make your car safe again, even if you have some issues that might be occurring.

Recalls are quick, easy to deal with and can help you ensure that each time you get behind the wheel your car is safe, and you don’t have to worry.
