All About The 2013 Nissan Rogue Transmission Recalls

Jan 19, 2021

Owning a compact SUV like the 2013 Nissan Rogue is a way of making a statement. Compact SUVs are sporty and fun, while still having enough room and comfort to qualify as a “family vehicle.” But when something goes wrong during the manufacturing of a vehicle, it can sometimes lead to a safety recall.

Have any safety recalls been issued on the 2013 Nissan Rogue transmission?Ā

As of August of 2020, there are none. However, there is an issue with the 2013 Nissan Rogues continuously variable transmission, which has led to an extended warranty from Nissan.

Gray 2013 Nissan Rogue From Front-Driver Side

In this article, we’ll talk about the one safety recall against the 2013 Rogue, as well as the transmission issue, and how you can have these problems fixed.

Electrical Short Due to Water Leak

NHTSA Recall ID: 15V032000

The harness connector in the 2013 Nissan Rogue is located beneath the driver’s side floor panel. This collection of wires controls many of the electrical features in the vehicle. However, the panel that provides access to the wires for service and repairs turned out to not be waterproof when it was first manufactured.

If a mixture of snow or water and road salts leaks into the harness connector, it can cause an electrical short. A short can cause a wide variety of safety problems. In some cases, a short can cause the electrical features of the vehicle to simply stop working. In a worst-case scenario, an electrical short can cause a vehicle fire.

Owners of 2013 Nissan Rogue vehicles impacted by this recall can have the issue repaired for free at an authorized Nissan dealership.

A Nissan technician will inspect the wiring harness connector. Then, the wiring harness will be replaced (if necessary). Nissan will also install a new waterproof sealant to prevent the possibility of any future water leakage onto the harness. All safety recall repairs are done free of charge.

2013 Nissan Rogue Transmission Extended Warranty

The 2013 Rogue, as well as several additional models of 2013 Nissan vehicles, uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT). There have been enough complaints about the CVT in 2013 Rogue vehicles that Nissan has doubled the powertrain warranty for select Nissan vehicles, including the 2013 Rogue.

Due to an issue with the transmission, the vehicle may shake, shudder or vibrate when the driver reaches highway speeds. Over time, this can damage the transmission, leading to the need for a repair or full replacement.

The initial warranty for the 2013 Rogue’s transmission was for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever condition came first. Nissan has extended the warranty to 10 years and 120,000 miles for the continuously variable transmission in the 2013 Rogue. The warranty covers all repairs, towing, or transmission replacement related to this issue.

It’s important to note that there has not been a safety recall related to this issue, and there have been no injuries reported as a result of issues with Rogue’s CVT.

How Do You Handle a Safety Recall on the 2013 Rogue?

If you own a 2013 Nissan Rogue, there are two ways that you can check to see whether there is a safety recall on the vehicle. Both methods require you to locate the vehicle’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN).

You can check the NHTSA Recall website and enter your vehicle’s VIN. You can also check your specific 2013 Nissan Rogue on the Nissan Recall Lookup website, or call 1 (800) NISSAN-1.

Before buying that seemingly perfect used car, be sure to check its Vehicle History!

We'll see!
I bought a 2013 Nissan Rogue with 34k thinking I would have a good car for a while as long as I did maintenance. I had no idea that CVT transmissions even existed let alone that this car has one. There is no dipstick to check the fluid and that usually means that it's a non service transmission and that there is no need to worry about it. I now have 103k and the car developed a whirr so took it in to a shop to have the wheel bearing hubs inspected and replaced as that is what it sounded like. Now I'm told that it needs to go to a transmission shop because the noise is internal CVT issue. I am looking up this issue and what exactly a CVT is and am only now finding out that they need to be serviced regularly. There is no indication anywhere visible on this car that states that, the previous owner nor anyone else has informed me and there was no manual included with the car. I'm 50 and have been driving automatic transmission equipped vehicles all my adult life and have never had any problems with them. This is not good as I don't have the money to pay for a transmission or to replace this car. So I'm scheduling an appointment at a transmission shop and see where this goes. No matter what when the dust settles, this will be my last experience with a CVT transmission. If I am not able to find a vehicle with a traditional automatic tranny then manual it will be!

ProtestNissan
I purchased used 2013 Nissan Altima in 2015 the vehichle was recalled and Nissan purchased the vehicle back. I purchased a used 2013 Nissan Rogue SL with 29000 miles. I started having problems with it and the A-C was replaced and the problems with the CVT could never be documented because when I would take it in no codes were showing including my air bag. However my warranty ran out and I have had the same problems and the air bag light does not go off. Ihaave submitted all reports to NHTSA in the past with no response. I just recently sent my Congressional representative my complaints in the past about the problem and was informed to contact Nissan Corp. I was informed by Nissan corporate my vehichle is out of warranty. It is not like these are current problems and they have all of McCall ins. Just recently the cat went out as I havekept my vehichle well maintained. However I would like to start a behichle protest encouraging people NOT TO PURCHASE a Nissan vehichle. Please email me if you have had problems with your vehichle and when the warranty expires Nissan basically will tell you SORRY BUT YOUR warranty ran out.šŸ˜” I would like the protest to extend globallyšŸ‘ šŸ‘ šŸ‘ šŸ‘I have read many reviews and I would not have purchased a Nissan a second time.danataylorunmedu@gmail.com

2013 Nissan Rogue CVT
2013 Nissan Rogue. Mine has been a great car I have over 200k on it and had all intentions of continuing to see how many miles I could get on it. I would have bought another Nissan until recently when I have had lots of repairs and now my transmission.is doing exactly what all the reviews mention.. Here is my complaint. Why would I spend $6000whicb is what I was quoted for a new transmission when they will replace sith same exact CVT motor which every mechanic has told me is complete junk.. That would be completely stupid on my part.. With that said I am super disappointed in Nissan and the fact they have abused the sell of this transmission knowing its junk and so many unhappy customers.. My husband has a dodge ram with 300k on it and Dodge continues to service it under their max care warranty which is for 999k miles. He pays a deductible of $200 for any repair regardless of the cost. And he has had about 10k worth of repairs in the last year.. Truck still runs like a charm and he works on the road and continues to trust it because Dodge is standing behind their product. Shame on Nissan. You have lost all respect and trust from me and many others.. I hope others will NOT spend their money on a product that a company doesn't stand behind because they know its junk.

Nissan Rougue 2013 CVT trying to kill me
My 2013 Nissan Rougue governor component/ CVT Transmission set to stall the vehicle in 90 degree weather. It use to happen on occasion but now its every time I am on a highway for more than 20 minutes. I do not drive the car above 70mph, even on Interstate 4, to keep the car from stalling and it still happens. No gages show over heating while driving. No check engine light. When we run a diagnostic it wont show. The only reason we know its the governor temp gage for the CVT Transmission is because of other Nissan owners saying they are suffering from the same issue, however Nissan refuses to acknowledge the problem other than to say the governor is set low to prolong the life of the vehicle. Our Rougue is now almost 10 years old and this is the only problem it currently has. This is my notification, if I am injured, harmed, or killed (or any passengers in my vehicle suffer a similar fate) on a major highway due to the car stalling and refusing to accelerate while maintaining safe speeds of 70 mph or less, this is due to Nissan's known issue of the Governor Overheating and refusing to do anything about it.

Nissan the biggest SCAM PAY UP
In 2018 my 2013 White/Pearl White Rogue started Peeling. There was a ā€œclass action lawsuitā€ I followed all protocols Nissan Dealer Pictures, Paint estimate etc they wanted 10G for a vehicle repaint. Offered me 2,000$ discount. Are you crazy? I paid 23,000$ for the car. I got it Repainted for 1,800$ submitted the claim form etc was never reimbursed they went GHOST on me. I fought that case from 2018-2021. FFWD 2023 my Rogue has 97,500 miles on itā€¦transmission Goesā€¦car stops accelerating on me on back windy roads. The cars a lemonā€¦my first experience buying a car has been a nightmare. Stay away from Nissan, they are a terrible company and donā€™t deserve your money. They do not value the customer or appreciate you. You could end up dead in their manufactured box on wheels for all they care. Sincerely A single mother who faced two failures same vehicle after paying 23,000$ it cost me an additional 10,000$ In repairs. I will be getting rid of my Nissan and likely buying a Toyota or Honda: Lesson learned

CVT the pits 13 Rouge
I bought mine, Im second owner, The transmission went ker putt . Had to have a rollback come for me in Birmingham. Not a good buy.. I drove my Honda and my Camary for 10+ yrs 88 til 2000, and 2005 til 2015 ..had other cars. The most expensive thing ever replaced, was fuel pump, and gen maintenance, 23000 mi I was a home health nurse I had to have dependable transportation. I have called every where to find a transmission local and 2200$ is cheapest I found.. Im over 70, SS and spending that much is a burden. Not to mention labor to install it.. I would never own another car like this it looks good, drives fab, but no reason nissan cannot build one that last like a Honda or Toyota..I even had 05,HHR with over 20000 mi and the biggest thing went bad was chip and my doors locked n unlocked going down the rd, and trans slipped but pc chip fixed it.. I am just sick cant sell it cant fix it right now it is just getting pooped on by birds Rhonda Spurling

I purchased a 2013 Nissan Rogue from the Dodge Dealership isn Lake Wales Florida July 27th 2023, with about 130,000 plus...unsure exactly amount! As of Dec 28th, my Transmission went totally out at about 140,000 miles.... I can NOT afford a new Transmission and Auto shop can NOT find a used Transmission without running into the same issue! Now I'm stuck, No vehicle and still have to pay on this vehicle for another yr! I was NOT made aware of anything about a Rogue, even after asking the Dealership.....I needed a vehicle that was affordable and convient! I LOVE the Rogue and now I'm so Depressed, Lost my job and have no money to fix it or buy anything else! Not sure what else to do

We bought our 2013 Nissan Rogue brand new a very minimal problems with the vehicle. As far as the transmission is concerned I took a precaution and change my fluid the first time at 40,000 miles. Then after that it was every 20,000 mile intervals. The vehicle unfortunately was totaled about nine months ago we had close to a hundred and forty thousand miles on the car with zero problems with the transmission. I think the main problem with the CVT is the fluid gets d***y and that's what causes the issue. We now have a 2021 Nissan Rogue and the owner's manual I believe says change fluid at 60,000 miles with the 2013 recommended at 100000 miles.

2013 Nissan Rogue Transmission Problem
Purchased my 2013 Rogue with 74K miles and began having problems around 79K miles... After not getting anywhere with Nissan I contacted my local mechanic and he suggested we change fluid and filter... This worked great and so we changed transmission fluid at next rergular 5K service... Have mechanic changed fluid 10K and just again at 5K intrerval.... Transmission will not hold up much longer... I have had one or two Nissan veichles in my driveway for the past 37 years.... Should Nissan not stand behind this transmillion this Rogue will be the last....

Beware of the Transmission Problems
I purchased a 2013 Rogue in July 2013, I have been having the same problems they have the recall for, the shaking, rattle and all the other problems Nissan reported, now I'm having transmission problems, but because my VIN number is not on the recall I'm stuck paying the bill. I will never purchase another Rogue šŸ˜’. The problems are with all the 2013 Rogues, I should not be responsible for manufacture failures. I only have 74,000 miles on my Rogue.

2013 Nissan Rogue
My 2013 Nissan Rogue started vibrating ,jerking and loss power and then stopped. I could not get it to go. So I had it taken to my mechanic and he said it was my CVT transmission had gone out. My Nissan Rogue only has 136,000 miles. I bought this car about 6 months ago. I am so disappointed, now I have to get another transmission which I can't afford at this time. I wish the dealership would help pay for their not so well built CVT transmission.

Don't buy a Nissan
I purchased a 2013 Nissan Rogue new. Now at 112,000 miles it is having transmission issues. I saw the article on Nissan extending the transmission warranty on the 2013 Rogues, but when I contacted them I am being told my VIN number is not included. I would like to know what makes one CVT in a 2013 Nissan Rogue different from another. Nissan knows there is an issue, but they are not standing behind their product. I WILL NOT buy another Nissan

2013 Rouge is not reliable
Have had transmission trouble with 2013 rouge purchased it bc I was a single Nana and wanted something to last and safe to drive with grandkids in car. I canā€™t even driveit to work it completely stalled last year and wouldnā€™t even go in gear changed fluid and it did ok for a few months now back to square one with it. Transmission pump failure yesterday on 2013 Rogue
Purchased new and one owner. Currently 80,500 miles. Apparently mine is not covered under ANY of the multiple Nissan's warranties. Looks as if 2013 was a bad year for Rogues and Nissan will not own up to it. My order for a Ford truck is scheduled to be built first week in March and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Nissan...goodbye and good riddance. You failed.

2013 Rogue(100,000 miles)
My rogue had transmission problem about two years ago. I changed the fluid but only lasted for less than two year (didn't drive too much the past two years due to covid). Now the problem starts again and I really cannot afford change the transmission... It seems still no recalls or extended worranty on 2013 S model. Is there any things we can doļ¼Ÿ

We have all the same issues. Loss of acceleration, stalling, shaking, whistling. I believe this is a dangerous car to drive for my pregnant daughter. I called Nissan Headquarters and it is NOT covered. I couldn't even get "additional assistance" from headquarters where they offer to pay for a portion of the fix because my car is over 84,000 miles.

Our CVT transmission on our 2013 Rogue overheated in 75 mph Houston traffic. Computer slowed us down immediately to 45 mph. We were almost rear-ended from oncoming traffic. Nissan refused to replace transmission but suggested installing a transmission cooler at our expense ($1600). We cannot go over 68 mph without transmission overheating again !

Frustrated over CVT transmission issue on my 2013 Nissan Rogue
Was told today that I needed to repair or replace my CVT on my 2013 Nissan Rogue. The Nissan company is not taking any responsibility even though their warranty was extended to cover under 120,000 and 10 years. It's going to cost me $4800 to repair with reconditioned part or $7000 for new. BE CAUTIOUS when purchasing any Nissan model cars

2013 Nissan Rogue CVT Issue - Not Included In Extended Warranty
I have a 2013 Nissan Rogue that had a defective CVT and was advised by Nissan headquarters and by several Nissan dealers that the 2013 model year was not included in the extended warranty program and I paid $3,900 for a rebuilt CVT in Oct. 2020 (107,000 miles). Please confirm your information is accurate, and advise. Thanks!

So although Nissan and the NHTSB does not consider this a safety recall, I never received a notice regarding the extension of the CVT Transmission warranty. Also the paint issue regarding the "Pearl White" paint that peels due to the improper heat temperature of the priming stage...also a known and admitted issue by Nissan!
