Today’s vehicle safety advancements leave us feeling safer behind the wheel than ever before. Still, no vehicle is perfect, and recall notices are issued from time to time. No matter how new (or old) your car may be, staying on top of the latest recall notices is a must.

How many recalls have been issued on the 2003 Nissan Altima regarding a P0335 diagnostic code?

As of August of 2020 – only one has been issued, which affected up to 630,000 vehicles. It relates to a poor soldering job that could cause the engine to stall while driving, increasing the chances of an accident.

Thankfully, in this article, we’ll review all the details you need to know about this 2003 Altima recall.

Defective CPS Solder Joint

NHTSA Recall ID: 03V455000

When the 2003 Altima was manufactured, up to 630,000 vehicles were assembled with an improper solder joint on the crank position sensor or cam position sensor. These sensors (when installed and working properly), play a vital role in delivering information from the engine’s crankshaft to the on-board computer.

If either of these sensors has a bad soldering joint, the “check engine” light may light up, and a P0335 diagnostic code may be issued. In severe cases, this issue could even cause an engine stall while driving, which can increase the risk of an accident.

The resolution for this defect is to have a licensed Nissan service technician replace the crank position sensors and/or camshaft position sensors on affected vehicles. With this replacement, the vehicle’s variable timing control sensors may also need to be replaced to ensure proper repair.

What Should You Do if Your 2003 Nissan Altima has This Recall?

If you drive a 2003 Altima, your vehicle could be part of this recall. Even if you haven’t had your “check engine” light come on, you should check the NHTSA recall page to find out if your vehicle is affected. All you have to do is enter your VIN.
