Even something as well-built as an Acura MDX will eventually have a recall issued simply due to defects that weren’t apparent at the factory. The recall process can be an inconvenience at times, but it is necessary to keep you safe out on the highway.

How many recalls has the Acura MDX had in total?

As of September 2020, 35 in total. Some of these include:

  • Bolts in A/C compressor clutch may corrode
  • Potential loss of light for tailgate lid
  • Fuel pump may cause engine stall

Next, we’ll go into a bit more detail on these recalls, including information on how to find out if you’re affected and what to do if you are.

Corrosion of A/C Compressor Clutch Bolts

NHTSA Recall ID: 15V417000

This recall potentially affected 106,439 units, including all Acura MDX models produced between April 23, 2013, and December 16, 2014. These would be in the 2014 and 2015 model years.

A bolt in the A/C compressor was missing the anti-corrosion coating, making it prone to premature deterioration.

This might not seem like a major safety hazard, but it’s best not to have any interior or exterior parts of your car come loose while you’re driving. At the very least, this can cause a major distraction.

Honda issued a notification on August 7, 2015, under the recall number JQ7 and began replacing the bolts in affected vehicles.

Engine May Stall Due to Reduced Fuel Pump Performance

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V060000

Affecting 437,032 Honda and Acura models, including 2016-2018 MDXs, as well as several TLX and Accord models, this recall had to do with fuel pumps in the 3.5L V6 engines.

Particulates in the fuel could adhere to internal parts in the pump, reducing engine performance and even causing the engine to stall.

If your engine stalls on the highway, you’re dealing with a loss of driver control and increased chances of an accident.

Honda notified owners on March 25, 2019, with the recall numbers P3W and N3X. They then began replacing the fuel pumps where necessary and updating the software for the control unit.

Potential Loss of Tailgate Lid Light

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V256000

This recall potentially affects over 320,000 2014-2019 Acura MDX models and 2017-2019 Acura MDX Sport Hybrids. It relates to moisture creeping into the tailgate lid lights and rendering them useless.

The concern here had to do with visibility. You want people to be able to see you as clearly as possible when driving at night or in limited visibility situations.

Honda issued a notification on May 7, 2019, with the recall number M49, replacing tailgate lid lights and installing updated gaskets and a wiring sub-harness to water-proof the parts.
