An engine mount is designed to secure the transmission and engine, minimize vibrations, and keep your vehicle running smoothly. Unfortunately, engine mounts (and the bolts that hold them in place) can fail over time, as has reportedly been the case with some 2008 Nissan Altima models.

Has there been a recall on the 2008 Nissan Altima motor mounts?

Not as of September 2020. Still, there are numerous reports both on the NHTSA website and in Vehicle History reviews that document these issues. From stripped engine mount bolts to worn engine mounts, these problems seem to be widespread.

Worn Engine Mounts

While the reviews for the 2008 Nissan Altima are favorable overall (with an average of 4 stars on Vehicle History), several reviews mention issues with the motor mounts.

One reviewer, Dennis A., comments in his October 2018 review that the motor mounts have been a “recurring problem.” Another reviewer, Robert L., mentions in his September 2019 review that the engine mounts on his vehicle had worn out as well.

Stripped Engine Mount Bolt

NHTSA Complaint ID: 10934099

In this 2016 complaint filed with the NHTSA, the owner of a 2008 Nissan Altima reports that the vehicle exhibited a “severe vibration” during operation and was taken to an independent mechanic. At this time, the vehicle was diagnosed with a stripped engine mount bolt as the likely source of the vibration.

This failure occurred with around 99,000 miles on the odometer, though engine mount bolts should typically last for around 10 years before needing to be replaced or serviced. It’s also worth noting that the owner reports that she had the engine mount bolt replaced, but the vibrations continued.
