What are some common problems with the 2007 Honda Ridgeline?

Like all vehicles, the 2007 Honda Ridgeline has some common issues.

These include:

  • Misfires
  • Air conditioning issues
  • Brake light panels falling off
  • Transmission and coolant leaks
  • Electrical concerns

This article will discuss these and other problems common to the 2007 Ridgeline. This will help you decide if it’s the right vehicle for you.

Exploring the 2007 Honda Ridgeline

The 2007 Honda Ridgeline is a durable little truck with a good build quality. The weather-resistant trunk built into the cargo bed floor means you can haul items even in poor weather. While it doesn’t have high towing capabilities, it’s a great truck for hardware store runs or light-duty work.

In 2007, Honda added the RTX trim to the Ridgeline. This brought an included trailer hitch and color-keyed door handles. It also illuminated the vanity mirror on the driver’s side.

This truck has a comfortable ride on the highway. It’s a little noisy off-road, though. Its anti-lock braking system and brake assist mean fast stops are handled with ease. Heated wipers and a tilt steering column are standard on all trims, appealing to many drivers.

Known Issues With the 2007 Honda Ridgeline

Sudden Misfire

NHTSA Complaint ID: 11348738

One owner from Huntington Beach, California, indicated a sudden misfire developed with the 2007 Honda Ridgeline truck. After the misfire, burning coolant and oil made a cloud come out of the tailpipe. The owner found a low coolant level, low oil level, and burned oil on the spark plug.

Ignoring this problem could lead to catastrophic engine failure when the coolant and oil drain too low.

The best course of action is to see the dealership for a repair.

Air Conditioner Suddenly Stopped Working

NHTSA Complaint ID: 11232092

Driver Checking Car Air Conditioner

One owner reported a sudden failure of the AC fan. This meant that the air conditioner couldn’t function. This was a separate problem from a recall of the fan motor harness.

The only way to get an AC problem fixed is to take it to the dealership for repair.

Brake Light Panel Falling Off

NHTSA Complaint ID: 11230549

One Ridgeline owner reported multiple instances of the third brake light panel coming off during high-speed driving at 65 mph. This can cause serious problems, as the light panel can flop around and damage the truck while driving.

Owners who notice any unusual sounds or vibrations from one of the brake light panels should take their vehicles to the dealership quickly to have them repaired.

Transmission and Coolant Lines Bleeding

NHTSA Complaint ID: 11058465

When the truck suddenly lost power and would not engage the transmission, one vehicle owner took it to a family mechanic. The mechanic found that the transmission and coolant lines had bled together in the radiator. This resulted in the transmission running dry.

This, unfortunately, requires replacement of the transmission, as well as repairs of the lines. The owner reported that a neighbor had a Ridgeline with the same issue.

To prevent this problem, keep an eye on the coolant reservoir. If the color starts to change, have it checked by a trusted mechanic for signs of this issue.

Intermittent Electrical Issue

NHTSA Complaint ID: 11144223

Having warning lights come on while driving is unsettling, but that’s what one Joplin, Missouri, owner of a 2007 Ridgeline reports. When the issue happens, the owner reports, the truck will slow to a stop with an unresponsive acceleration pedal. Turning off the truck eventually solves the problem.

This kind of electrical issue is a serious safety risk. Drivers who experience it need to visit the dealership for a full inspection of their trucks.

Driver’s Side Seat Loose

VehicleHistory.com Customer Review

While happy with the truck overall, Maria G, a Ridgeline owner, expressed frustration that the driver’s seat felt loose. According to her review, when coming to a quick stop, the seat jerks and rattles.

This isn’t a safety issue, as there are no reports of the seat actually coming loose. It is, however, a comfort issue. Talk to your dealership to see if the seat can be tightened up if you have this one.

In-Bed Trunk Stuck Shut

NHTSA Complaint ID: 11130882

One owner from California indicates that the Ridgeline’s in-bed trunk got stuck shut. With no way to open it, even after visiting the dealer, the owner was forced to cut a hole in it.

While this doesn’t pose a huge safety risk, it does make the in-bed trunk impossible to use. Owners who experience this problem should talk to the dealership to see if a repair solution has been found.

Shattered Rear Sliding Window

NHTSA Complaint ID: 10328442

Driving down the road and having a window shatter would be shocking, and that’s what one 2007 Ridgeline driver reported. According to the complaint, the rear sliding window shattered into the passenger compartment. This seems to be a common problem.

There’s not much to do to avoid this problem. Drivers should regularly inspect the window for signs of breakage and take measures if needed to replace it.

Coolant mixing with ATF fluid
Transmission started slipping badly. Had to replace radiator and thoroughly flush both the cooling system and the transmission. Cost $2500.
