You count on your car to keep you safe every time you get behind the wheel. Unfortunately, even meticulously engineered vehicles can end up with safety issues. When a safety defect is discovered, a formal recall notice is issued and repairs are performed free of charge.

How many power steering hose recalls have been issued for the 2003 Honda Accord?

There have been 24 recalls issued regarding things like faulty airbag inflators or defective windshield wiper motors. However, only one of these involves the power steering hose, which could leak and cause a loss of control.

Let’s now review this 2003 Accord recall in detail, including what may happen if it’s ignored and what to do to get it resolved.

Potential Power Steering Hose Failure

NHTSA Complaint ID: 12V222000

In May of 2012, Honda issued a recall on some Honda Accord models that were manufactured from 2003 through 2007 and equipped with the optional V6 engine. On these vehicles, a defective power steering hose could deteriorate prematurely, causing a power steering fluid leak.

If you ignore the issue, power steering fluid leaking onto a hot catalytic converter could result in smoke and a fire under the hood. And of course, if this happens while you’re driving, this can put you and your passengers at risk of injury or may even cause you to crash.

Honda’s resolution for this recall is to replace faulty power steering hoses with new, heat-resistant ones. This will prevent the hose from deteriorating due to fluctuating fluid temperatures, thus reducing the risk of a leak and subsequent fire.
