2015 Ford Escape

Despite solid crash test ratings from both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2015 Ford Escape simply has too many unaddressed complaints, from electrical failures to cracked engine blocks, to be a smart used SUV purchase.

  • The 2015 Ford Escape earned Good ratings in most categories from the IIHS, except for a pair of Poor ratings in front impact tests.
  • There are seven recalls for the 2015 Escape on file with the NHTSA, with two investigations and 555 complaints.
  • Engine hesitation and overheat may be the result of a cracked engine block and coolant leak.
  • There have been two recalls for rollaway due to a degraded cable bushing.
  • Electrical issues are a major concern, with power steering failure taking the lead.

Engine May Hesitate and Overheat

Out of 555 total driver complaints, engine and powertrain reports take a substantial lead at 117 and 160 reports, respectively. One recent complaint reports that the SUV simply failed to accelerate properly while at speed. Another driver reports that the temperature gauge topped out at “FULL HOT” in mere seconds.

Other drivers report transmission slip and rough shifting, total engine failure occurring out of nowhere, and loud knocking and smoking. Thus far there have been no investigations into these issues, and there have been no recalls pertaining to engine overheat or failure.

One affected driver reports their trip to the mechanic resulting in a diagnosis of coolant leak, or “coolant invasion of the #1 cylinder,” potentially owing to a flawed engine block. This would seem to be corroborated by reports of cracked engine blocks.

Whether this explains all of these engine and powertrain failures, or even a significant percentage of them, who can say. But with nothing else to go on, that seems like as likely a culprit as anything for the moment. Engine failure has typically been reported in the low 100,000 range.

The 2015 Escape Has Been Recalled for Rollaway Twice

2015 Ford Escape

There was a recall for just under 100,000 2015 Escapes in early 2022 concerning rollaway. In affected vehicles, specifically those with 2.0L engines, the bushing that attached the shifter cable to the transmission had a tendency to degrade and detach, especially with exposure to road salt.

Should that happen, you might shift your Escape into park without the SUV actually going into park. This would result in vehicle rollaway if parked on an incline or someone were to bump your vehicle in any way. You can use the parking brake, of course, but it’s not uncommon for that to slip a driver’s mind.

A second recall was issued just a couple months later, this time for nearly three million Ford units in total, including a number of 2013-2019 model Escapes. It was the same problem this time: cable bushings had a tendency to degrade, leaving your SUV rolling down the street.

Unfortunately, there have been a number of complaints related to the issue. Specifically, because of the sheer scale of this recall, dealers are running out of parts, and drivers are waiting around for replacements to ship, leaving them with unrepaired vehicles in the meantime.

Power Steering Failure Leads Long List of Electrical Problems

There are 81 complaints on file for electrical system problems, and 55 for steering, with a common complaint being that the power steering will simply go out while you’re driving. In some instances, this is accompanied by a loss of electrical power or engine shutdown.

A recall was issued in 2015 for inoperative instrument clusters, and another that same year for an issue where the engine would stay on when the driver attempts to turn it off. But these are only two issues among a whole range of electrical problems.

Quite often, if you’re seeing a whole bunch of different electrical problems, the issue comes down to rats and mice chewing through the wires. Electrical wiring these days is typically coated in a soy-based material rather than plastic, and rodents can’t get enough of this stuff.

This might not explain each and every incident. But if you are seeing electrical glitches in your 2015 Escape, it might be worth looking under the hood for the signs of rodent infestation, and applying some repellent before the problem gets any worse.

Age and Unaddressed Complaints Make the 2015 Ford Escape a Poor Choice of Used SUV

2015 Ford Escape

There’s a lot to like about the 2015 Ford Escape, but when you combine the vehicle’s age with electrical failures and reports of cracked engine blocks, there’s simply too much here to worry about. Simply put, it’s hard to feel confident behind the wheel of this SUV.

Every creak and pop you hear under the hood, you’re going to be sweating bullets wondering if the transmission is finally going to give out. Every electrical glitch will seem like a prelude to engine shutdown. You don’t need that kind of stress on the road when you could just go with a newer model or a Honda CR-V.

Nothing but problems
Bought mine used from a dealership 8months ago. I have already replaced the oil cooler, entire transmission, transmission oil cooler, and turbo manifold. And still waiting on the recalled part for the shifter to come in so I can replace that before I have an issue. The transmission blew while I was on the highway. Truck was hesitating while going up hill or during acceleration. Transmission warning came up and almost immediately went into low power mode while I was in the fast lane. I barely had time to get off to the shoulder before the while thing basically shut down on me. The worst part was I had it at the mechanic two days prior and absolutely nothing came up on diagnostics. Same when it was towed to a shop when the transmission went out in the highway. So, there was no prewarning just my own noticing it was not riding right before it blew entirely. Total money pit. Never will I buy a Ford again

Battery corrosion extreme vehicle damage
My mother just bought 2015 Ford escape a few months ago from dealership. For a week now shes been without it due to corroded battery. She took it to a battery shop and mechanic wouldn't touch it due to liability issues. The battery is so far back and has so many parts to be taken off just to see the battery. Bow she is paying over $700 just for a battery and repairs the corrosion caused. I am not a mechanic but my father was. I dont ever remember while he showed me how to work on vehicles corrosion of this nature happening in a matter of a few months causing this much damage to her car that my mom is liable. Lithium Ford not offering answers or help to my mother only a quote and bill. Smh. Do not recommend Ford vehicles or Ford customer services.

Not a good choice to purchase a 2015 Ford escape.
I do not like this vehicle because it has rust on it already. The vehicle has only 36000 miles on it and it is rusted. Also has issues with the computer and radio not always working. So far Ford has not agreed to make repairs. I would not recommend this vehicle at all. The handle on the rear hatchback has also come loose and not covered under warranty either. I did not expect a three year old car to have rust on it yet. Not a good vehicle to choose as your next sub.

Issues owning a 2015 ford escape se.
I have had numerous recalls and maintenance issues with this vehicle. The worst of the bunch is the wastegate on the turbo got broke, so a head gasket became damaged allowing water into the system causing overheating and oil burn off. Also, the rear tires seem to wear down fairly quickly on the inner side. No explanation for that but design flaw since it is continued after an alignment.

Spot welders help you repair your car more smoothly
The spot welder's most significant advantage lies in its rapid welding capabilities. Unlike conventional welding methods that require extensive preparation and lengthy welding times, the spot welder can fuse metals in a matter of seconds. This increased efficiency allows you to complete projects in record time, saving you valuable hours for other tasks or projects.

Rolling bill of problems and repairs.
I bought it used in 2017, with about 20,000 miles on it and just a couple month later, I already had to get parts replaced. Three years later and I have totaled about $5,000 in repairs having put only 40,000 more miles on it. I have had problems with the steering wheel, the engine, the tires, the ventilation, it is pretty much a bill on wheels.

2015 Ford Escape flaws: do not buy.
You cannot turn off the interior lights when opening the doors. This sucks when at a drive in. The car’s brain is faulty. I can no longer sync my phone nor can I charge my phone. I have to use the charger in the trunk. The trunk is nice sized but it would of been better if the back seat had more leg room and the trunk had a little less space.

2.0 Motor needed replaced
After 5 years, 117,000 klm’s, small town driven, Ford Maintained every 8,000 km, the motor died, needing replacement. This is very disturbing. This was my first new car so I didn’t have to do any of this. After telling others, I found out more and more Escapes need motors replaced, from 7,000 km and up. Not happy with Ford at all.

Disappointments in 2015 Ford Escape.
The Escape is fairly comfortable, though not as much so as I had thought it would be when we bought it. I am also disappointed that Ford discontinued sync--which was one of the reasons we bought it. That said, my spouse is the car's main driver--I drive it only when we're out together or to appointments I have.

Don’t buy these cars
Bought a Ford escape 2015 in 2018 as a used car Less than Two years transmission went out had black fluid In it Bought a new transmission to replace it Found out turbo has gone bad and was leaking oil into the transmission big cost to replace both parts ford should recall these issues and fix them their selves

Issues with the different Fords I have owned
Have had issues with the doors since I got the car. This is not my first Ford but will be my last as all of the cars had issues with door and locks that are not covered with warranty. Newer Fords are not made the same as older Fords. Car alerts do not work properly, sometimes they go off when nothing is wrong.

Let the buyer beware of this car.
This car has had a lot of repair issues including 6 quarts of oil that went missing and caused the engine to seize. If it was a leak, we should have see evidence of a oil leak. Engine was spotless and the mechanic went over it looking for where the oil leaked out.

Battery dying and hoses breaking. Skipping
On the escape antifreeze keeps leaking due to hoses breaking. Battery has been replaced twice. Would not recommend buying the Ford Escape. Check engine light stays on. It skips often. We have kept it serviced. Would not buy another Ford. We have been very unhappy

2015 ford escape vehicle review.
Turbo is going out, ford also has terrible transmissions and having problems with that and the back hatch. There is also a bent rim on the front right tire which is causing problems with the steering of the vehicle. There is also oil leaking into the engine bay.

Headaches of recalls and mechanical issues.
It has been recalled 3 times, including a door latch and seatbelt issues. The rear seat belt always locks up, unrelated to the recall issue. The warning lights go on for no reason. Despite being checked by mechanics, there is no reason for them being on.

Ford's 2015 escape review.
The back windows in the trunk leak sometimes when it rains hard and the speakers also go fuzzy when it rains. Also the right back passenger door's rubber seal pops out of place and it has to be replaced into position.

2015 Ford Escape
Bought new, had it back 3 times with noise in rear when backing up, then in 2017 had solenoid fluid in transmission fixed, 2021 new transmission 5,200 dollars. It has 124,000. Been a problem since it was new
accountCircle Josie H on December 4, 2022
Okay car, but not the best.
Many engine issues, tire pressure issues, broken sensors, Bluetooth does not work all the time, would be better with heated seats and steering wheel, battery did not last long, prone to sliding in winter.

Transmission acts strange.
After a few years of driving the vehicle, I have noticed that my transmission seems to delay and jolt especially while using cruise control. The noise level of the car has also increased over time.
accountCircle Bailey on October 3, 2023
Dont
The vehicle can barely last 100,000 miles and that’s after replacing everything including the transmission. Engine eventually failed out of nowhere and it was our final straw.

No star, I had to choose 1
2015 Ford escape, less than 80k miles, $4600 transmission replacement and the engine caught on fire while driving it. Now it’s just a waste of my money. I am livid.

Remember to check the oil often.
Changed the oil in this car and blew the engine. Mechanic cannot figure out what happened to 6+ quarts of oil. I am never buying another Ford again.

2015 Ford Escape is not the greatest car.
Constantly need breaks changed. Rotors need changed. I would consider a different brand and not the focus.

Engine problems, sensor problems.
Always problems with the engine, sensors are always off. Trouble with the drivers door and trunk.

It is not nearly as nice as the older escapes.
Not enough interior storage. There is literally no place to set my phone out of the sun
